    Holy Flurking Shnit

netnomad: if you have doom2.exe and doom2.wad in the same directory, you play the demo as: doom2 -playdemo 30nm2956 (without .lmp)

Two minor bits: Obviously if there's no requirement on secrets or kills, the secret levels are not necessary in a movie run. Incoming is always accessible through HTTP (and that is preferred anyway if you're not an uploader): http://competn.doom2.net/incoming/compet-n/

    Some more: E4M2: 324 (488 TAS) - strongest of all id maps HR25 : 247 (325 TAS) - no BFG

    Doom without a scratch

Yeah, this is Reality Style (or, very close to that - Reality rules forbid plasma and BFG usage as well), created by Thomas "Panter" Pilger. His page is down, however you can still access it thanks to the Wayback Machine: http://web.archive.org/web/20020205040623/http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Castle/7571/

    Good "slaughter" demos

If someone has way too much free time, an interesting stat on these demos is (total monster hitpoints)/(exit time) aka the Punishment per Second rating. HR2 MAP32 is probably on or near the top. I believe HR MAP25 is on top for maps missing the BFG.

    New Interviews About Doom... 3

Depends if the BFG was taken out on the engine level, because it's an even bigger bandwidth hog or something; or they simply didn't put any in the DM maps shipping with the game.

    Doom 3 Tourny at Quakecon

Tourny or Tourney? Anyway, they could still go gold later and have Qcon with whatever beta they have. That would be kinda lame, though.

A question about how CN works

Right... also there are quite a few Misc demos at C-N.

A question about how CN works

Claudio used to send some records to DANG and not COMPET-N (they could've been beaten by now, I don't know). But as Radek so nicely put, "no uploads, no glory. ;)" Back to the question, yep, you have to beat the current C-N record to be able to send your demo. Except: - 30NM, 30NS: any demo is accepted. 2nd and 3rd fastest also get you points. - 30UV, 30UVMAX, 30FAMAX: 2nd fastest is accepted and gets you points.

    PrBoom on Speed

As you see here, for outsider people it is certainly not obvious.

How the heck do you pronounce Compet-n?

    Heh, I use Pine.

How the heck do you pronounce Compet-n?

Thanks mje for pointing me to this thread :) Personally I pronounce as com-pete-en ever since I knew about it. I learned about the "competition" thing much later on when I browsed the templates Kristian mentioned, and my pronounciation already stuck. Istvan (previous admin) says com-pet-n. By the way, the "official" way to write it is all capitals (COMPET-N). The Compet-N thing is also used, but I dislike it much as the DooM spelling.

    Doom 2 Speedrun Movie

You can gain 13 seconds at least by skipping MAP32... 11 seconds by skipping the map, and two by the normal exit in MAP31.
  19. I'll try to answer with my best knowledge: S50 is 194, S40 is 178. For practical purposes, 192 with S50 is hard enough. No, it doesn't. It gives more horizontal SPEED. The MAP07 jump is possible at the proper angle and has a minimum needed speed. Try with -turbo and you'll succeed pretty easily. Biggest distance with level platforms I've done with RJ is 242, with a wallrunned runup. Largest level RJ in known maps is the MAP24 one after the door, 224 units. Depends which one you mean. There is the squeeze at MAP16 red bars, MAP21 yellow bars, MAP22 bars. They are all similar in the way that a 32 wide space is enough for the player to squeeze through (not reliably, though). And there is the more obscure grating glide, present in MAP10, E1M3 and Plutonia MAP07. Seems to be a collision detection bug and needs two walls together slightly less than a right angle (I don't know if it's an exact one or an interval). I don't know exactly. In MAP14 there is a 72 unit one which seems close enough. On one-sided linedefs it is south->north. On two-sided linedefs it is south->north and west->east. The barrel row jump in MAP23 is essentially the same as a 2s wall west->east wallrun. EDIT: it's also possible to do west->east wallruns on one-sided linedefs. Seems to work rarely. One good area is the outer ring of MAP07. /EDIT Some wallrunning is possible on not perfectly angled walls, but the efficiency is less. Speed gain is double at top speed, doesn't mean you'll be able to do double distance jumps, though (the gain is not much, in fact). Hope this helps. What I said applies to doom2.exe and whatever has perfect compatibility.

    Doom 2 Speedrun Movie

It is certainly very hard in scratch demos, MAP29 not having a rocket launcher and all... And we won't see much of it in competition movie demos, there are RJ's which are more rewarding.

    Doom 2 Speedrun Movie

Some comments on the run and on the text file: - MAP02: Sedlo's nomonsters time is :24. - MAP10: nice stuff there opening the exit door through the grate before doing the glide. First time I see this. - MAP11: no the RJ here is not new. at least I knew about it. - MAP12/13: MBF corrected the bug which enables the player to do keygrabs, of course in PrBoom's compatibility mode for the old exe's it's all there. - MAP16: shame for the time here, :09 is surely possible. - MAP24: oh, missed the RJ there ;-) :28 can be done, maybe even better. - MAP29: nice RJ, haven't seen it before. Too hard and little time gained to be generally useful unfortunately. Quite a lot of times are low milliseconds, I suppose some of them could be improved, especially with building things from scratch.

    Hell Revealed, Again

What, 32? Saw that in the beta and watched Vile storm through it. A pretty bad attempt at a slaughter map IMO.
