  1. So...I surveyed quite a bit of dating sites, personal ads (both online and in newspapers) and noticed the following patterns:

    • The "men seeking women" category was up to one order of magnitude larger than all others combined, or most ads were in that category, when there was no explicit separation.
    • The "women seeking men" category, when existing as such, was very, very small compared to "men seeking women" once you filtered out all the irrelevant/disruptive ads e.g. some were clearly professionals, "masseurs", porn site bots, jokes, or, at best, couples looking for a third activity partners. Genuine ads by single women seeking men were very rare, and then they were extremely specific and restrictive. Many men also posted in that category looking for women, which further watered down the results.
    • The "women seeking women" category was quite larger than "women seeking men", and consisted mostly of genuine ads or requests for a third member in a threesome.
    • What was perhaps more disturbing is that the "men seeking men" category was the most numerous after "men seeking women". Almost no professional ads there, and lots of activity in the replies with people posting their cell phone numbers openly. It was also the one with most explicit accompanying photos (and no, no bangbros.com watermarks on those).
The above considerations were mostly drawn from online ads, while the same situation, perhaps less extreme, was reflected in newspapers.

Newspapers OTOH had a quite larger marriage ads list. There you could find people with two and three villas, sizeable real estate, top-notch jobs such as doctors, lawyers, civil engineers etc. with my favourite being this greek-canadian helicopter pilot with real estate in Greece, Canada and USA, over 30000 USD montly income or somesuch. If anything, those ads make you feel insignificant and powerless compared to what others can offer, and wonder HTF you are supposed to stand on your own...

BTW, two of my cousins (both brothers) ended in marriages arranged from their families (and one of them married a 3rd grade cousin he knew since childhood) and a divorced uncle of mine started dating a string of sex-hungry 40-50 yo women after putting an ad in a newspaper.

The spirit of Sparta lives on.

Wonder what he does to earn that sort of money - run drugs across the US/Mexican border?

No idea how much a freelance commercial helicopter pilot normally earns, I suppose it depends on what sort of missions/tasks he flies, and is paid per-task, not with a montly salary (unless he's working for a police or fire dept., in which case he wouldn't earn that much).

Surely a pilot doing just sightseeing rides doesn't earn as much as, say, a flying crane operator working in the logging industry. Different working conditions, different goals, different workload.

I'm sure that checking All-American personal ads (or pretty much everywhere else) won't reveal a much rosier situation. Let alone that 90% of the world's porn, including a hundred different forms of gay porn, comes from the USA.
