  1. You just can’t please some people, it seems! I, for instance, have laboured for well over a decade feeling like my mapping is unrecognised. However, every time something I made did alright, I got put off of following it up. Now I’ve made a few bigger waves, it’s like I’m getting performance anxiety in front of the editor.

What’s it going to do? Laugh at how small my sectors are? The self-ridicule only helps highlight that this is a silly problem to have... It doesn’t solve the problem, however. How to overcome it?

Cheers man! I'll see if I can manage anything in the next four days for Jimmy's contest, but won't just sit there staring at the editor if it's not coming. After that, I'm happy to take a big break. I've got one map outstanding for a project where the lead isn't worried about releasing for years yet, and literally nothing else on my plate (courtesy of a mass project deletion a few months ago), so I should be in a good place to chill out.

Take your time. You don't have to impress anyone! Least of all your fans (like me!). When I'm feeling ambivalent I like to step back and do something very different in the editor, like center a map design and combat around 1 weapon, or really throw gameplay on it's head and make a tyson map! When I go back to the big project I have renewed vision and maybe even some fresh ideas.

Thanks Use! That doodling in the editor on fun/throwaway ideas is a good way to ease the pressure and enjoy the process... I think that was always a draw of speed mapping. Making something crap or mean-spirited in a couple of hours is good, clean fun!
