  1. WOOOHOOO!!! I've made it one week w/out smoking. I hope to keep this up for the rest of my life. The only problem I have now appears to be withdrawls. Which so far have become a bitch. I seem to be majorly depressed, but I'm hoping how 'down' I've been feeling will go away soon. It doesn't help that me and my girl just broke up recently, which has been a major problem with my quitting in the first place. But this all is made better by the fact that I have quit for a week. Now shooting for: 1 month.

EDIT: holy cow, withdrawls are a major bitch. I wish I hadn't quit during my first round of testing at school. I've been majorly depressed and I haven't been able to focus on anything. For those of you who have also quit: how the hell did you deal with withdrawls?

  2. I hope my job gets outsourced to Pakistan/India/Phillipines, there is just too much bullshit involved. The only problem is, there are no jobs around. I need to have a job. There needs to be some serious change here so I can maintain my sanity and source of income. No one wants to stand up to management, because the corporate guys could fire us all in a heartbeat. Can anyone offer any solutions to make them change their policies? We can't unionize, they'd just fire us all. We've asked our supervisors for change, and nothing happens. Also, does anyone else have a similar experience in customer service?

    [rant]

TL:DR: management is setting impossible requirements for us lowly employees. I dont want to lose my job. How do I influence change in the corporate machine?

Perhaps their centers are a nice place to work in, relatively speaking, compared to other jobs in India or compared to centers in some other countries. India has a lot of poverty, which could explain wages that are well-above average, yet cheap internationally speaking.

One drawback Indian telemarketing and support centers have in providing services to Americans, who make a huge demand, is that they make a particular use of English which is not entirely clear to Americans. That is, English is taught a lot in India but it has British roots with Indian particularities in accent and tone. To counter that they usually develop other skills such as a high degree of technical expertise.

Of course. I don't think this is a bad thing, it enables India's economy to grow whilst providing Dell with cost savings. Indians obviously work cheaper, there is no point paying Indians the same as Dell would pay Americans/Brits/Australians as this would negate the advantages of hosting a foreign call centre and India would get nothing.

I read in the news a little while back that there is an increasing trend of skilled Indian workers moving back to their homeland after getting experience and promotions in Western jobs. A large proportion apparently move back from non-management roles into management roles, living very well in a place I assume they would rather be.

  3. WOOOOHOOOOO, I QUIT SMOKING TOBACCO!!!! Unfortunately, while my tobacco consumption has gone away, my cannabis use has gone up a lot. I don't see this as much of a problem, but I still smoke it. I dont want to breathe another liter of smoke into my lungs in my entire life, but I also don't want to give up Cannabis because I love it so damn much. That being said, I'm looking for some easy to make recipies that people have found to work for consuming cannabis. I'm going to miss smoking it, but eating it certainly seems healthier. I've found a number of recipies online, but I've yet to find one that works, and works well. Has anyone got any that have been known to work? I haven't had any luck so far. Maybe there's some step I'm missing?

Although it's possible, there doesn't have to be any particular "cause" or reason why something like this would develop. As geekmarine says, for example, paranoid schizophrenia often develops in the early 20s. It's probably a waste of time trying to find a "cause" for it because there likely isn't one.

That said, smoking weed really isn't likely to help things.

  5. This is a massive thank you to everyone involved in the Doom community. Recently I've not been involved with the community due to some rather stressful health issues and it's taken away a ot of my capability to work on Doom related projects.

I'd like to thank everyone for their continued support and willingness to entertain the thousands of questions I have asked. I would especially like to thank Graf Zahl and Gez for maintaining and providing support and GZDoom, I loved the port and hope one day to keep modding for it. I'd like to thank Scuba Steve for helping with my artistic endeavors and allowing me to help with the Cacoward ceremonies. I'd like to thank Zap10, 40oz, Tormentor667, Chopinska, Espi and everyone else who has made mods that have captured my time and attention.

I need to take some time to get back into good health, and I hope this is something I'll overcome.

Thanks Doom community! I will return...

I feel odd because I never really noticed how skinny I was (or everyone around me for that matter) until I took a visit to South Carolina. Apparently us little guys are a minority in those parts. I was even further terrified to see that there are petitions in these places to make it law to have wider aisles in shopping centers to accommodate 'plus sized' individuals. Are you fat? Skinny? Dunno, I never understood this "Mc Donalds will make you fat" fad.

There are surely more cost-effective ways of getting fat than eating at Mc Donalds, at least with the prices and portion sizes I've witnessed in Italy and Greece. If anything, many people don't factor in the amount of calories from soft-drinks: a big 400 ml serving of iced coke can give you as many calories as that teeny-wheeny hamburger you just ate, and they will all be pure sugar, too. Diabetics' delight!!!

In fact, pretty much any mainstread Greek eaterie serving gyros, souvlaki, pizza etc. can make you fat quicker and cheaper than Mc Donalds can, and in a much tastier way, too.

A practical example: with 3-4 Euros in the Italian Mc Donalds you get something like 6 Mc Nuggets with some pityful pickled cucumbers and a few french fries, and that was in 2001. By comparison, with 3-4 Euros in Greece you can take TWO fully stuffed and flavoury gyros servings, jam-packed with fried, fat, oily meat, french fries, tzatziki, ketchup and mustard, for what must be at least 1200-1500 kcals, even though I know several people than can eat 3-4 of them in one go.

Will eating like that once or twice a week make you fat? Surely no. If you do eat like that EVERY day though and you do nothing but snaking at home or at a cafe watching football every day like a slob...then yeah, even Mc Donalds' overpriced and insipid shit will make you fat ;-)

In a way, we really do live in a fat world. You could say all this water and organic growth makes the Earth fat. Maybe healthy fat, although perhaps we humans are contributing some of the unhealthy fat :p

      Maes said:

A fad? That would imply it's not true. It's more of a slogan. "Quick and cheap meat in bread with fried potatoes and soda." Sure, there are many other cheap fatty food places. I am aware of equivalents here as well, but they all occur due to the same phenomenon; the predominance of the meat and corn industry. Most are local and don't have the global implications of McDonald's or the like.

There's probably nothing better than McDonald's to point out the economic "model" all this works under, with an image in few words. It's enterprises like McDonald's that managed to first exploit and then spearhead the diffusion of mass-produced cheapened food.

    Noir, a Doom Story:
Some of you may have seen screenshots from my black and white cel shaded mod. I hate to disappoint, but that project is officially dead. It was more of an experiment to see if it was possible to pull off the look effectively. Ultimately, the problem that caused me to stop work on it was the sheer amount of content I'd have to create to make it work. However, I have not abandoned the idea entirely, as I think that I can use that effect in other projects I'm working on (possibly as an 'alternate universe' effect or something like that)

    Help wanted?
I'm looking for some useful tutorials about using 3D modeling programs (gmax or blender in particular) and how to create/animate Quake 2 models using [insert name of good modeling program here]

My latest Crappy Chinese Made Mp3 Player:
I got a DINGOO A320 recently, and it is the best investment I have ever made. Here is what it looks like:

It has native emulator support for NES, SNES, Sega Megadrive/Genesis, Atari 2600, Neo Geo, Game Gear, Gameboy, Gameboy Color , Gameboy Advance, Commodore 64, Homebrew games, prBoom and Duke Nukem 3D. Also plays MP3, WMV, OGG, FLAC, etc. Does not require any file conversion to play videos,it can natively play AVI, WMA, DIVX, XVID, TIVO, etc. Has a built in radio, e-book reader, microphone, takes Mini SD cards for expanding storage, and it even has an A/V output to connect it to a television. Talk about being feature rich.

The Good: Emulation is great, no lag, good framerate, I can even pull of some delicate moves with good accuracy. The music quality is great, the Mp3 Settings are easy to use, looks beautiful on an HD TV when connected. The price was only 69.00 bucks, so definitely a worthy investment. Battery life is ~ 8-10 hours.

The Bad: Like any other cheap chinese mp3 player, it suffers from really bad english, making some of the menu options hilarious (doom is in my 'The interesting 3d game' folder.) Doom wads cause signicant lag (this is mainly my fault to assume the DVII would run on this.) And the customization is a pain in the ass. Also, there is no volume switch, which means that volume has to be changed through a certain menu option. Does not tell you how charged the battery is while its charging, and charging typically takes a few hours, but that's a really a minor gripe.

Coffee is really a too broad topic to sum up in one paragraph. Just the way of brewing it results in totally different drinks with different qualities: e.g. filter or instant coffee is usually nothing but an insipid gut-shrapnel, and for me drinking even two sips out of a big cup of that abomination will cause me to fibrillate and send me straight to the throne where I'll put the AVGN's diarrhea dumps to shame.

OTOH, Espresso coffee, if properly made, is like having a little Xmas each time you prepare one (Espresso is by far the best way to brew coffee, at least for what regards striking a balance between caffeine content and taste. Filter, instant and frappe are too watered down to taste good, plus they have MORE caffeine per serving than espresso and are nasty on the bowels. Greek/turkish coffee is prepared with entirely differently ground coffee and tastes very different than both. Not particularly stimulant, but at least not as bad on the guts.

The only drawback to espresso is that you need a special machine to make it at home, and most of them are expensive and/or use very expensive coffee pods (even though LIDL already took care of that with a machine that is so awesome and cheap that it stomps on the colons of other espresso machines). I've yet to find an espresso machine for the home that can produce bar-quality coffee, though (I guess those $1000+ ones do but heh...I don't have that much money to burn).

The next best thing is "Moka" coffee, using that hex-shaped screw-top pot. The pots themselves are very cheap, even top-quality ones, can make up to 6 or even 12 cups of near-espresso coffee at once. The final result is similar to espresso, but not quite as good.

  9. So my community college held a drawing for a free copy of Windows 7, and oddly enough, I actually won. So now that I have a brand-spakin' new copy of Win7, I am in the tedious process of backing up EVERYTHING and writing down all the programs I have installed and where I got them. Suffice to say, I'm hitting some hiccups and could use some advice

    (1) Does anyone know of a cheap (free?) file host that can hold ~20 GB of files for an extended period of time?

    (2) If anyone here has had the chance to use Windows 7, is there anything I ought to know?

    (3) Dooming is one of my major hobbies, has anyone had any problems running Doom, ports, editors or any other Doom related programs?

If there's any advice anyone can offer for making this upgrade, I'm all ears.

    Thanks in advance,

  12. This isn't a 'looking for advice' blog or a 'feel sorry for me' blog. This is a 'ugh I'm frustrated and I need to vent to random internet strangers my problems' blog.

A while ago there was a girl I'd met who was very odd. She didn't quite work the same way other people did. her thoughts were ... jumbled ... but not impaired at all. But she could keep her priorities straight and she was very intelligent, despite being very difficult to interact with. She liked me, but I had no interest in her, I was mainly scared away by her crazy randomness and odd personality. I dated her for about a week, but I ended it quickly and afterwards I wouldn't even give her the time of day for a year. Now I've spent more time to understand who she is and what kind of person she is, and I've come to find her very attractive and I'm very much in love. I've learned to not be afraid of her eccentricity and admire it because she's so damn different. problem being that a friend of mine insists she's with someone else and is now just toying with my head.

what's even worse is that she now knows how I feel about her and remains entirely ambiguous as to her feelings about it. I can't tell if she's just trying to avoid hurting my feelings, or if it merely has to do with her airheadedness. This is driving me nuts.

it's entirely my fault for not realizing what i had and not taking the time to understand her. i brought this upon myself, but it certainly isn't helping me get over the major depression I've had since I quit smoking. If anything this has furthered my self-loathing to a new level. I might just have to join TimeOfDeath in his self-imposed isolation :P

The depression is pretty terrible right now, and I think that simply venting helps to alleviate some of this. Then again, what's the worst that could happen? I'm emotionally destroyed? I can live with that.

EDIT: on the bright side, its times when I'm bent up about women that I get the most work on my mods done. I should focus this frustration on ironing out more bugs.

  13. Its official. I'm back. After 20+ hours of plane flights, I have officially decided that I will never set foot on another plane again.

Upon waking I found that I had been asleep for around 10 hours. That's Jetlag. I decided that I would have a look around the compound. Its about the size of a small neighborhood. My whole Thai family lives there. I met 2 of my cousins I never knew I had. After realizing that it was only 8 in the morning, I embarked to explore the house. Thais are big about staircases. Every room in the house has stairs to it. Granted, some sets are only 1 step. They make these stairs just small enough that you don't see them, but tall enough that you will trip down an entire flight of 1 inch tall stairs. Go figure.

I explored the local markets to find that you can buy everything that you can in the US, except cheaper and more of it. Things that aren't even for sale in the US yet. Like Indy 4 and Iron Man. I was welcomed to the markets by a torrential downpour that effectively turned my shoes into buckets. The weather is just like the US, except cheaper and more of it.

The next day was a trip to the Royal Palace. Thailand is a relatively new country. It was founded at about the same time as the US. The royal palace is about 200 years old. The architecture is really quite something. It is impossible to describe, so I'll sum it up in one word: pointy.

I then took a trip to the 7 Waterfalls. There are 7 waterfalls. These are places you only dream about. Smooth, shallow sandy ponds filled with clear light blue water. Water falling into them from rocks that have been worn down from thousands of years of wear, the rocks are completely smooth. Trees hang over the areas that have also been there for thousands of years. Some trees are covered in Buddhist ornament, these are considered sacred trees. Really quite serene.

That sums up my first week there: Check out my photos now.

  15. So real life has been catching up on me lately and I could use the friendly advice of the good people of DoomWorld. Now I normally solve all my problems by either pretending they don't exist or making them someone else's problem. This is all fine and good for dealing with things like colds and ex-girlfriends, but some things cannot be solved this way. Like financial issues. I have a big choice to make. I currently have $12.00 to my name right now. I don't get paid until next week. With the next paycheck I can either make rent or pay my community college bill. Currently my credit is great. Not so much as a penny past due on any of my bills. EVER.

If I pay my college, my rent will go past due. If I pay my rent, I wont go to college this semester.

If I dont pay my rent, my credit will be fucked and I wont get grant money, which would prevent me from ever going to a 4-year school. Alternatively, If I do pay rent, I will have to postpone my education another semester. My major problem is that things keep getting more expensive and I keep having to postpone my education. I want to go to school someday, I dont wanna work shit jobs the rest of my life.

Now borrowing money from the parents is outta the question because they're poorer than me, I won't be able to get government aid until next semester. I've been filling out ridiculous numbers of scholarship applications hoping to get money, so one of these days I might get something. Banks don't do college loans. I'm not entirely sure what to do. And yes, probably TL;DR

(reminder, I need Fireworks, Photoshop, InDesign and most Importantly, Illustrator)

CS4 is way beyond my budget

      You sure about that?

      Really?

I just got that first package. After shipping, it was a little less than $80 per program. It's a bit more than I'd normally pay per software package, but those ones are a bit more capable than the normal software package as well.

You have to prove you're a student to order them, and then you have to do the same process with Adobe to get the serials. In either instance, you have to submit a scanned student ID or enter your name into a public student database search for instant verification (provided your school is registered with that program). But for the price, I didn't mind a bit of hassle.

You can probably imagine a hitch with the offer though - people running businesses taking a random online/community college class to technically remain a "student" and leech the discount rate, so I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to publish works for profit using the student versions - but I never intended to in the first place, so that's not a concern for me. All program functionality is intact and that's all I need.

Not sure what you could do about the laptop though - is that just because it's too old to run the newer versions? If you bought one of those student packages, maybe you could work something out with Adobe. I think most support reps are trained to give you the benefit of the doubt with stuff like that - at least, I've consistently gotten plenty of extra serial numbers and work-arounds and authorizations for programs I was having issues with.

That would be very unfair in my opinion, and there's no term like that in "Restrictions on Use of Adobe Student Editions" on the pages you linked to. I'm guessing that there aren't enough businesses exploiting studenthood for a catch like that to be necessary, or, more likely, Adobe is preventing businesses from using these licenses through terms such as "This license may be used only on privately owned computers," and the complexities of proving eligibility.

Eh, honestly I haven't looked through that trashheap of technical details they call the EULA yet, but it's not entirely uncommon among student software packages with such huge discounts to have some kind of restriction on professional production.

I mean, it's not like Adobe can tell once it's published, and it's not like they'd be able to keep track of everybody publishing from Illustrator or Photoshop or whatever. Plus any worthwhile graphic design company will provide the employee with a functional workstation, so even if I did get a job like that, it still wouldn't matter what my home versions were.

Regadless, the furthest I'd likely ever get with anything like this is an online gallery or comic with a "donate if you feel like it" link.

Then again, maybe you can do solo contracting with it. I haven't checked because I haven't needed to. I just didn't want to mislead anybody into thinking they could get more than they really would. Stores don't always list little things like that since they're not selling points (though their wording seems to imply individual/private contracting is legit). The packaged program documentation will tell for sure.

I'll probably read it sometime this year.

  17. Ok, So it has come to be that time of year when Comcast once again raises my cable rates. I need to find an alternative. From a tech standpoint is DSL or Cable internet faster? My only choices in this area are Comcast, US Cable and Quest, all of which suck. I need to find one that sucks the least.

Did they offer to lower your price back to the introductory rate? Over here, they tell students to drop by the local office every 6 months and complain when the price goes up so that they can lower it for another 6 months.

Funny you should mention that. I was taking the Greyhound once and wound up with a several-hour layover in Dallas. I was bored, so I decided to wander around in search of food, and instead I wound up stumbling upon the Grassy Knoll.

Hilariously enough, I did find the Grassy Knoll as well. My layover in Dallas ended abruptly when the friend who I was supposed to meet in Waco decided to drive all the way out and pick me up. Since then we've been jumping into bodies of water to get out of the heat. I might also add that Greyhounds suck.

I assume there to be nothing else to do here other than to jump into holes in the ground filled with water.

  19. Since my computer was recently compromised, I lost all of my mods and my 10 Billion WIP projects. Suffice to say, there's a hole in my life where my favorite hobby used to be, and I'm quite upset because years worth of work and discovery are gone down the drain, and I won't ever be able to get back to where I was.

But. I'm not going to drop doom modding since this is one of my few favorite things to do. I would like to finally make my Magnum Opus of Doom modding before I move onto other things. I have a very good knowledge of ZDoom and would like to put out a project for ZDoom.

With that said, a few weeks ago I had a very beautiful and mind opening psychedellic experience that really changed how I look at my life, among other things. And I found that it was also an incredible source of inspiration for Doom mods.

So here's the idea I had, narrarated from the perspective of the player.

"I have often wondered if this prison is even real. The gaurds look on, speaking to me in tongues. The writing on the wall only tells me how long I've been here, but even then, I do not know if they are days, years or eternities. No sentence, no parole, no visitors, no light. The only voices which speaks clearly to me are those of the cold steel bars, and they tell me I will never see the her again. My mind wanders and I don't know where it will go.

I only want to see her light. I only want know what it feels to bask in her glowing rays and know that I am real."

I like the idea of creating a mod where the gameplay is a trip (if you will) through the prisoners mind. The only goal of the game is to find sunlight. I don't have much other than that. I'd like to create some surreal levels that represent various aspects of the protagonists psyche.

This is a concept i'd like to play with:

  20. Ok, so Ling's thread harshly reminded me that I need to plan for my future. Having graduated from High School some time ago, I think its about time to consider higher education. Problem: my grades sucked and I didnt apply for college. Now, in today's world, going to college is essential to having a job better than mine (being a Janitor and TiVo tech support) So naturally, I have a few questions for everyone who is going to college, or has gone to college. What's it like? How do you get in? Does it matter which school you go to? What was your college experience like? How do you find the right major? I understand that there are plenty of college websites and such, I'd just like to hear from people who are a little more down to earth.

Right now I have no idea what I want to do with the rest of my life, other than go back to Bangkok, meet a pretty Thai girl and be rich. And play Doom.

Trade school's another option you might like to explore if you've the slightest interest in that kind of shit. A Buddy of mine has been raking in good cash as a Boilermaker. Once he has enough hours and there's no work, they still send him cheques in the mail till his next job. At times he gets sent up to shitty locations. When he does they give him a chunk of money just to travel there, lodging, and a daily food allowance. All ontop of his 30 bucks an hour.

If you decide on College just make sure you can actually use it towards something. There's already enough people in this world that have degrees which put them into debt that never brought them any benefit.

Money for college is easy to come by. There are so many types of financial aid you can get, and even if you fail to get that you can always get a student loan.

My advice for what type of schooling to get is this: work towards getting a career, not getting a degree. I know way, way, way too many people who have gone to school for four years and have gotten a degree and are now working dead-end jobs while wondering just what the fuck they're going to do with their English/Philosophy/Psychology/Marketing/Computer Science degree. The people I know who are actually making good money right now aren't even working jobs they got degrees for. I have one friend who has climbed quickly up the Microsoft ladder and is now head of network security in one of their departments at the age of 24, and he never finished college. I have another friend who is making pretty good money programming at THQ, but his degrees were in Psychology and Advertising.

I've not gone through college myself (aside from doing some tentative classes at the local community college a while back), but next year I'm going to go to school to get a certificate for audio technology. I finally sat down and thought "okay, what career would I be the most comfortable with having?" I think my dream job has always been to be a musician, but looking at it more realistically, I figure doing audio production would be a surer bet. So knowing that, I looked up what kind of schooling I'd need, and that's what I'm going for. I'm a little disheartened that I'm getting a certificate instead of a degree out of it, but oh well. If you really think about it, what the fuck is the difference anyway?

      Patrick:
Are you looking for a prebuilt or are you going to build it yourself? For a DYI system, $800 is enough, provided you don't need a monitor/keyboard/mouse/speakers. It will be a difficult budget to work with for a prebuilt system though. That is, unless you get a POS one from one of the major OEM's like Dell/HP/Gateway/Compaq.

Sounds like a typical week in Missouri. I believe we've had 2 separate 40F fluctuations this month. And when they aren't fluctuating, we're either cold as hell, or 95F with 80000000% humidity... I want to move.

  23. [for people who don't like me ranting, this paragraph can be skipped]

Ok. Comcast is currently charging me 64.00 a month for only internet at 6 megs. I called them to find out why its 12 dollars higher than it has been. Apparently because I do not have cable service, the 12 extra dollars is their "Speed" charge, and that charge will be removed as a bonus for getting basic cable. Conveniently basic cable is 15 dollars a month. I can keep paying 64 dollars a month and get slow-ass internet, or I can pay 67 dollars a month and get slow-ass internet as well as basic cable. So this brings me to my point. I'd sooner get more for my money than have to deal with their retention department or switching to another more expensive provider.

    [/rant]

I am going to get basic cable, but I'm never around to watch it. Can anyone recommend a good DVR or way to record TV? Here are my criteria:

    (1) Needs to have the ability to store at least 10 shows at a time
    (2) User friendly
    (3) not from Comcast (their DVR requires a premium package)
    (4) Must not look like this:

I've been using Windows Media Center, rather than a hard drive based recorder, for about two years now. I put in a 500GB harddrive, which stores all of my music, movies and recorded shows. I think I'm only using a quarter of the drive at the moment.

The interface is clean and easy to use. Easy to setup, for me at least, as I have been told by others it can be difficult. Just drop in a supported TV Tuner, Video card and a decoder and off it goes. Stores as many shows as you have space.

The only issue I have with this setup is the size of the recorded shows - 30 minutes equates to approx 1 GB. I have a DVR-MS converter program that can strip the DRM (which honestly hasnt been a problem, I can watch the shows on any other PC without issue) and reencode it to Xvid, but am yet to set that up.

Just the other day we had cable installed and I was able to route it through Media Center without a problem.

  24. So after a solid 4 years of use outta my shitty laptop, I have decided to get a new computer. I'll post another thread on that elsewhere. I'm not ready to get rid of the computer as it still works, but It can't even run HL:2. Im wondering 2 things. First of all, is there a good solid linux distro out there that will run smoothly on a laptop? I was considering Ubuntu, but my previous experiences with Fedora Core were not good, so I'm a little skeptical about using Ubuntu right now. I'd like to partition it so that Im running Windows XP and (as my current decision is) Ubuntu. How would I go about setting that up?

    1. Csonicgo

      Csonicgo

Ubuntu works great, as it's been the most popular distro, and thus has gotten the attention of Major companies, including Nvidia, so if you have an Nvidia chipset, expect it to work as intended, provided you install the drivers using this little menu they supply for you.

The way I did it, was to shrink the partition of XP to a size that I think would be enough.

HOWEVER, Ubuntu can install itself using the free space on the XP partition, so you don't really have to worry about setting up any partitions as you used to. But, if you wanna go the old route, there are many tutorials to achieve this. like, This one.

  25. I finally got around to getting a new computer. 2.8 GHZ Pentium D Dual Core, 2 GB Ram, 300 GB hard Drive, NVidia GeForce 9800. The problem, however is that I cannot seem to partition my old hard drive. The "Partitioner" informs me that the drive cannot be partitioned. I want to set this up so that it's booting to Xubuntu and XP. Any help with regards to how I might accomplish this?

    1. Remilia Scarlet

      Remilia Scarlet

Well, first, what partitioning software are you talking about. The one that comes with Xubuntu? And also, is XP already installed?

I'm not 100% sure if the partitioning program that ships with (X)Ubuntu can partition NTFS drives since I haven't partitioned one in forever. If it can't, and XP is already installed, you may have to use a separate partitioning tool. I know the GParted/QtParted tool that comes with Knoppix will partition these correctly.

If you can get it partitioned, just remember the size of the partition you make and you should be able to tell the Xubuntu installed to just simply format it as ext3 and go.

EDIT: Looks like there's a GParted Live CD as well that's only about 99mb.
