Is it the repetition? Or Christopher Walken's delivery? Or people's reactions to it? Do you guys get it? Do you have to be American to understand it? Are you even supposed to understand it or is it supposed to be nonsensical? Boy, I have many questions today.

It was Walken's delivery, yes. That's mostly what people liked about it. He was claiming to be Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden, a singer known for operatic high-pitch singing. Walken walked into the sketch and just used his regular "New York" voice, not even trying to be British or act like Bruce.
Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden is not the same guy.
the sketch mostly plays off the idea that the cowbell is such a simple instrument, straight 4/4, and the rest of the band is kind of annoyed by it, but walken's character is just so enamored with it and as a result such a simple, silly thing starts to tear the band apart during the recording session.
