May I have the resources of versions older than 6.4?
Blastfrog replied to Blastfrog's topic in Freedoom
Thank you both, this is very useful! :) -
Yes, I know it had copyright violating music, but that's not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for older textures, namely older versions of FLOOR4_8, FLOOR5_1, FLOOR5_2 and FLOOR5_3. But having access to all since-then-replaced resources (besides the music, I don't care about that) would be nice. Is the general public allowed to download incoming resources too? And is the general public allowed to browse and download the source directories? (namely the attic) Sorry if the answer to these questions are already common knowledge.

New: Old: Just made this this afternoon. Never mind that I have skinny, pale hands, I will edit this to look more like Doomguy's hands later. Is this a good replacement for the chainsaw? EDIT: Updated with new version.
-
More crap I've been wasting my time with. You can't tell me Romero wasn't high when he made Knee-Deep in the Dead, it's too trippy.
-
I guess I'll still contribute this then, I was kinda getting the feeling that the majority wanted the old sprites. I actually have tried them ingame (along with some sounds of my own), and it's not bad for a start. Here's a wad file: http://www.mediafire.com/?kcqhjg3812wdtbd (must be run in a source port that supports pngs, it still looks like crap in the doom palette atm) And, yes, I'm aware that the sawing frame is missing half the arm and is differently colored. I didn't like the angle the hand was at so I'm going to replace it, and that it why it is missing. The gloves and chainsaw itself are it's original colors too (black gloves and orange chainsaw), because I haven't recolored it yet. And Skib, my point still stands. Mithran Denizen never attacked me in the first place, so I didn't need to be "defended".
-
Skib, you really shouldn't boss people around like that. Anyway, I'm going to continue working on this graphic, but I won't bother submitting it here, seeing as everyone wants to keep that stupid-ass sawblade.
-
That was a relatively useless comment. Can I have some constructive criticism here? Seriously, how does it look like an "80 year-old golfer's" hands?
-
New version. How do I add a poll to an existing thread, by the way? And skib, no offense, but your posts in this thread aren't very helpful.
-
Please tell me that you're being sarcastic, cuz if you're not, you failed to get my joke. Badly. And what does changing the chainGUN have to do with changing the chainSAW? If you were being serious about changing the chaingun, nobody listen to him. That is the stupidest idea ever. I agree very much with wesleyjohnson on this matter. Although I'd like to say, doom's shotgun wasn't exactly space-age either.
-
I don't get it. What is with people wanting to change everything from the original Doom? Hey, I know! Let's replace the pistol with a star wars blaster, replace the fist with a lightsaber/dagger mix, the shotgun with some futuristic rifle, the super shotgun into some sound based weapon, the rocket launcher into a shoulder mounted bazooka, the plasma rifle into a magic wand, and the bfg into a death ray! All for the sake of changing things! While we're at it, let's turn the zombies into rabbits with guns, the imps into armored flemoids, make the arch-vile use electricity instead of fire for it's attack, the cacodemon into Robotnik in his flying pod with a missile launcher, and the cyberdemon into a huge mech! This is Doom, not a TC, why does everything need to be different?
-
Urric, please keep the attack flame based, and don't listen to those who want a non-flame attack. This would be a serious problem for compatibility, and the existing flame sprites are JUST FINE. (as in, they look good and don't suck) They need no replacement, and "Freedoom has been going in its own direction for a long time now" is absolutely no excuse to change things for the sake of changing them. To intentionally change the sprites fully knowing that this would break a few mods is very reckless, and should not be done.
-
Absolutely. This is supposed to be a TC, after all. Plus, it would greatly enhance the Aliens feel to it. If the Aliens TC were made today, the author most likely would have had new textures in there, he probably only used the Doom resources because there really wasn't much else out there, and back then it would have been very difficult to make new textures.
-
@Skib: I think that's the point, for others to use it. I have a question though, why were the RW15_x, RW16_x and RW21_x patches replaced? The current ones are terrible compared to the leftover versions!
-
Sorry for a last minute submission, but just recently I made a new graphic for the POL5A0 sprite. And just curious, what about the DSCLAW sound? Also, although not my content, what about ProjectDarkFox's textures, are they being considered? EDIT: I am considering making new fist and chainsaw graphics. I have an old chainsaw similar to the Doom one, and I just want to know, will it be worth my time? What I mean is, will it have a chance of being accepted, or is the sawblade considered final and will never change?
-
Looking great so far! :) Only thing I'd recommend is that you change the fire color to be more yellowish. And a little electricity is nice, but I don't think the existing flame sprites should be changed, we always have to consider that mods may make use of the existing sprites, and if it uses the fire sprites for something with the intention of it looking like fire, then it should stay fire. PWAD compatibility is needed, I think.

Heh, probably cuz they ARE from FreeDoom, just modified. :P The berserk pack was actually based on the medikit, like id's version, unlike the existing berserk pack (it looks like placeholder shit, why it wasn't based on the medikit in the first place, I don't know) Don't credit me for my edit though, all I did was slightly modify the cross into an 'H'. Thanks for the comments, though. :)
-
I figured that much, but I just wanted to know if they were being overlooked because of my improper submission method (forum post instead of FTP) I'm not questioning you, but I'm curious, are you an 'official' part of the FreeDoom project by any chance, or just a bystander?
-
No, no, and no. The graphic should not deviate from the original design intent. Medical supplies should stay the shapes they are, not showing other stuff like syringes and shit. Regarding the replacement, I say that color preservation is more important than keeping it a cross, for visual reasons. Maybe the berserk should have a B on it. Here's some graphics I just threw together:
-
I vote for a red 'H' as a replacement. And my own personal opinion on this matter, who really GIVES A SHIT? :| It bugs me to see people bend over to this retarded rule, especially considering it's standard in games, and that no one's really gonna sue. Not that my words will change anything, but whatever. EDIT years later: Oh, god, I'm cringing so hard. My tone in the above post is abhorrent. Whoever reads this post, please understand that I'm not at all like this anymore.
-
So their site seems down. There wouldn't happen to be a mirror of the video, would there?

As Processingcontrol said, it would be nice to have the ability to disable saving, but allow the user to override it. Therefore, both parties would be pleased. Those that wish to save anyway can (but will know that they have forfeited proper playing of the mod), and the mod author would be able to have saving initially disabled. Something like if you try to save, it says you can't. Then if you want to save it anyway, you just turn the override on, but know that you're playing improperly. One actually decent use of this would be to have save points in the level, like Metroid, or Marathon. Just letting the player save whenever breaks the gameplay design of only allowing saving at certain points. It could be comparable to not being allowed to use cheats in Nighmare mode, but if you want to anyway, you just override it. (again, forfeiting proper playing, but still being allowed to do what you want)

For a project I've been working on for Boom, for the longest time I was testing it on ZDoom, even though it's for Boom. Bad idea. It works fine in ZDoom. but when I try to load the BEX file in the original Boom for DOS, it crashes and spits out an error at me, saying "Segmentation violation". It works fine in PrBoom, though. Picture of it here: If it helps any, I'm using DosBox. The BEX file that I'm working on is here: http://www.mediafire.com/?ssb9oj8ykucag89 Please help, I have no idea what is in there that it's not happy about. (note that this is an old version of my patch, but the exact same problem remains in the current version) I've since removed the header information that whacked gave it, as I was told on another forum that this is what prevented it from working, but it still comes up with the same error.
-
Whacked 3?! I had no idea it existed. Is it possible that I could have a copy? EDIT: Never mind, I found it.
-
That's not my fault, blame WhackEd2. I have to manually correct it in a text editor, and when I load the file in WhackEd2 again, it removes the code ponters and replaces them with Null. Are there any better Dehacked editors that can edit BEX files out there? And if not, is there any way to fix this shit-tastic bug?
-
Well, it worked perfectly! Thanks. :)
