    A wild megawad appears

I played till map06 via prboom+, and as mentioned here before, sadly there is a fatal bug in map06, 2 doors (blue and yellow) cannot be opened. The yellow one appears to be the door to a secret area, as the corresponding yellow keycard was hidden inside a secret. In the readme file the author wrote that this .wad was playtested via gzdoom due to the MAPINFO lump but can/may be played with other engines, too. I wonder in which format the maps itself were build? As some may suggest, I did like playing through the first five levels, the visuals and architecture are impressive, considering that only D2 vanilla textures were used. The gameplay was quite challenging too, I really enjoyed it. Maybe there will be a version 1.1 'out of nowhwere' in the near future? ;)
  2. Not even close, hm? Serious Sam 2 puts the whole Serious Sam Experience to an even more comedic-absurdish level, just like Doom Eternal the Doom-Franchise. In Doom Eternal there are things like: 1: Every time you manage to archive a headshot, there is this very weird 'plop' sound (in SS2 it's the bowling-pin sound) 2: Also a weird sound when a cacodemon is melee-killed (I'm trying to avoid this G...Kill word) 3: Extra Lives just like in SS2 4: Netrisca = Vega 'Stand Alone Absurdism' in Doom Eternal: 'Fortress of Doom', 'Ripatorium', Toy-Pickups, LP-Pickups, Cheat-Pickups, "All mortally challenged personnel please be advised", Zombies are ammo containers, Doomguy - sorry, Doom Slayer - speaks (of course he does), The Rocket Launcher looks like, well I don't know.. etc, etc.. Don't get me wrong, I don't 'hate' Doom Eternal or something like that, I think I am way too old to feel hate on Video-games ;) It's a fun game and I like it (well, sort of). Serious Sam 3 BFE, for me, feels more Doomish: Earth, overrun by hordes of demons/aliens, lies in ruins, all looks desperate and there is no hope left. Well, there is one hope: You, Sam Stone. "Against all the evil that Hell can conjure (...), we will send unto them... only you" fits to SS3 just as good as it fits to Doom Eternal, I think. If you disable the voice quotes in SS3, and swap the Sam Stone player model to the Doom Slayer one (I bet someone has already done that), it's Doom. G.. Kills are also included ;)
  3. - Doom Eternal feels like Serious Sam 2 (no, not The Second Encounter). - Serious Sam 3 BFE is the better modern Doom experience. There, I said it. Someone had to, right?

    Gman's review

Isn't this mysterious 'Gman' the guy on youtube with the pre-pubertal '-your mom, -your girlfriend' jokes all the time?

Can't Come Up With Any Ideas

I can fully agree with that. Try to give yourself mapping-limitations such as 'I can only use 50 sectors' or 'I can only use 10 Textures' etc.. Never thought about that, I'll definitely try it out later :)

Labyrinth of the Aku (17 levels) updated

May I ask if this is a boom compatible .wad? There is no .txt file though..
  7. Well, from this perspective, yes. I wasn't sure but I took this as a given thing. In that case, I want to mention another equally important thing if not more important imo. And that is mouselook. I mean 'normal' mouselook, without that weird moving-thing you know what I mean? In the original DOS-Version you could play around with the setup but you could not get rid of this moving-thing. (Is it called mouse turning?) EDIT: In the infamous Doom 3 BFG Edition for the PC ID included the classic Doom 1 and 2. And despite the flaws in/of this versions they took over the control scheme from your personal settings from Doom 3. And I liked that.
  8. You mean aside from the things they already have? Or do you mean a new thing/feature?

ColdPal - A new palette for Doom/Doom2 [On idgames]

    Great work, thank you :)
  10. Oh dear, I remember that as well.. The Tick crawled out from behind that computer-terminal when you were done switching/clicking through the different camera-views on the interactive terminal/console, as far as I remember correctly. It was in the original Doom 3 campaign, in the level where you have to find a new door-panel in order to, well, open the door. Can't remember the name of the level though..
  11. I could never forget that. btw: remember the Hell Knight who tries to break through a door when you step in front of it and try to open it? Or the poor guy who is, ahem, 'nailed' to the ceiling and cries just before a ton of those freaking monsters with the long tongue and yellow-glowing eyes appear? (I think they're called 'maggots'..)

Assistance in upgrading my video hardware

Glad you purchased a GTX 750ti :) Are you sure that the PCIe-Slot on your board is 1.0? But it is still fastened at 16x, right? Also, a Core2Duo E8600 is pretty fast, even today, if perfectly configured. Combined with a GTX 750ti still a decent system imo. You can still upgrade to a new mainboard (which I recommend), there are dozillions used ones over at ebay, with any luck you can find cheap new ones. There was this pretty short 'BTX-time' in the middle-2000's, slightly bigger mainboards which unfortunately no one but Fujitsu, Foxconn or Intel cared about. These boards mostly could be found in Fujitsu's Esprimo-Desktop-Series, an now can be purchased easily on eBay. Till I switched over to pure Laptop-usage roughly 1 year ago, my main computer system was such an Esprimo, powered by a Core2Duo E6700 combined with a Zotac GTX 750. I was able to run Bioshock Infinite at 1920x1080 in/at medium details/settings and 4xAA enabled through the nvidia-driver. Also Serious Sam 3 was perfectly playable in high settings with 4xAA enabled. Doom 3 ran in Ultra-Settings of course ;)

Which version of DoomGuy is your favorite?

And I thought I was the only one who thinks that the Slayer-Whatever-2016-Guy looks like a molten mishmash of the Master Chief and a somewhat Doomguy... Not to mention this bizarre red plastic-sword the Slayer-Whatever-2016-Guy wields to stop demonic invasions or whatever.

Which version of DoomGuy is your favorite?

I think that the Quake 3: Arena Doomguy is the most accurate 3D-interpretation of the classic Doomguy. Just imagine a Q3A-Engine based DooM-Game made with this character-model.

    Same here ;)

Assistance in upgrading my video hardware

I would recommend an used nvidia GTX 750 or 750ti. If you're playing a lot in 1920x1080 resolution, a GTX 750ti is the better choice because of the 2GB video memory instead of 'only' 1GB.

    Any peculiar Doom habits?

I always try to avoid chainsaw- or backpack-pickups. EDIT: as long as possible

So, how old are you ?

Iam 31 and today I thought: Hey, I have not spent doomword.com a visit in a long time. And here I am, wondering and confused about the new look o.O Way too old for 'modern' Internet, I think ;)

    Japanese Community Project

A must-have for everyone who plays DooM imo. I enjoyed this very much. Superb music, excellent gameplay and architecture. Definitely deserves a 2016-Cacoward :) ps.: as you play through this, make sure to enable automap in map 8! ;)

    Ten Years of Cacowards

A big thanks for the 2013 Cacowards :) Every year it's the same: When november ends and the snow begins to fall, there is this special "DooM feeling", you know what I mean? Ok, I am sure, everybody here knows it: The Cacowards are almost there! Congratulations to all the winners, especially to Ribbik's Stardate 20X6, my personal favourite this year :) And I like the new "Lifetime Achievement" category, it's amazing. "Suspended in Dusk" by Esa "Espi" Repo is a legendary masterpiece btw, every DooMer should have played through it! It's a fascinating fact, that it's designed for Vanilla DooM <3 p.s.: "beloved demon killing simulator" -kmxexii XXDD
  24. MediEvil.. So many memories. I loved this game. It was the second game I bought for my PS 1 (Biohazard 2 was the first one), and I played through it ever and ever again. The atmosphere of ME1 was amazing. Even today, playing this via emulator, I can see how much love was put in the creation of this game. There are so many nice details in ME1. ME1 is surely one of the best action adventures ever released. ME2 sadly failed imo. Crash Team Racing? Well,Iam playing this almost every weekend with friends on PC via emulator. 4 Controllers, Splitscreen, it is a lot of fun. I think its way better than Mario Cart 64.
