    Heretic level: Water Overlord

Heh when I was playing doom in school last year I was only using vanilla doom + dosbox. It was the only way I could have done it, and it was actually nice taking a break from modern ports and the like, and just getting classic gameplay. Thankfully though at home I got chocolate doom for that.

    Ubuntu vs Windows 7.

Lets not forget that people these days ooh and ahh over every little fancy detail out there. I spend time explaining to someone I know why aero sucks and they continue to point out all of the (not really) "impressive" features of it.

Perhaps so, but it doesn't make it any less interesting that people will start arguing their opinions, then person X comes along and says that all of the people hating Y have all of the wrong facts, even if that's what they expirenced, and then the usual arguing opionions comes along again. Oh well, that's how the internet works. Not that I particuarly care. It's just interesting. /me shuts up now

    Ubuntu vs Windows 7.

I find it amazing how much people can argue about their operating system, browser, program choices, whatever. Pick whatever you want. If it works it works. If it doesn't work it doesn't work, move to another thing. If someone doesn't like that? fine. Oh well.

Just out of interest, what are the faults with Snow Leopard? Although I will never run it for serious purposes, (school barely counts -- besides they might be lazy upgrading) I just kinda want to know.

I would run none of those operating systems. I'm perfectly content with XP here. I've also ran vista a lot but very rarely ever used any of the little enhancements it had (because I broke vista habits without trying when I went back to XP). The machine is TONS faster now Windows 7... I've tried one of the prereleases -- it just really fails to intrest me at all... I run Linux in a virtual machine. It fits the small amount of linux stuff I need to do Snow leopard -- next year I'm probably going to be forced to use that at school. I never could stand Mac OS though and I have no reason to attempt to run it. Besides these versions are just getting worse as the number increses lol freedos. I do have a 386 in my room running Dos 6.2, but any variant of dos is pratically useless for a modern day computer.

    Chocolate Doom

Somehow I doubt that. Mabye unless you don't have any of the high-res stuff and it has a software renderer to fall back on, but that's unlikely given the intentions of the port. (and what's with the edit button being so close to the quote button? I hit it too many times by accident :P)

    Chocolate Doom

Skulltag barely keeps the original doom feeling anymore, which is to be expected with a modern day doom engine sourceport.

    Garrys Mod and Doom

Unfortauntly, the easier you make something, the more crap you are likely to see for it. Especially if it is modern. Though there are a few good things that come out of them.
  10. Tatics wouldn't fit Doom at all. Neither would strafing on the fast demons. All doom really needed was better pathfinding. The simpilist of creatures here can usually be smart enough to use doorways (without a door though :P), avoid walls, whatever. Also, shots should not cancel lost soul charges.

what the craziest thing you done in doom?

Stuff like this, stuff like this, and stuff like this That last one was entirely a glitch that has now been resolved.

    Young Doomers: Why this game?

I've played doom since... forever (which is surprising because I was born in 1993). And slowly but surely I'm realizing why MANY modern games suck and why I keep on playing and modding doom. It's easy to mod, fun to play, and you can even do epic things with it without usage of a modern GL or whatever renderer. Of course, there are still a few more modern games I like, but almost everything I play today was released within the timespan of 1993-2000 or so.

    The /newstuff Chronicles #352

Looks like your G key is a little hard to push there. I don't remember Zdoom itself ever having a OpenGL renderer :P

    Elevator Fails

hmm, let me catch up on the thread, I've been busy watching a nearby storm drain... :P All joking aside, having an intersest in a little room connected to motors via cables seems to be interesting. They don't do much other than bring you to higher point X or lower point Y. I fail to see why they are so impressive. Even if they do fail in interesting ways sometimes.

    Link To Armageddon

You aren't going to get anything with an additude like that, I would imagine.
  16. Is that mancubus based off of something? It kinda looks familiar. And that demon almost looks like it's trying to cheer someone one. And this is also one of the funniest things I've seen in a while.

    We <3 Windows

UAC fits a typical family setting. What it doesn't fit it the common setting around most of us here, where we run our own computers, with one user account. Good idea? Yes. If something that requires admin privilage levels needs to be done in a limited account, it can. Vista also provides compatibility for old applications which would dump INIs, temp files, whatever into c:/windows The flaw: Most users don't need limited accounts. I'm sure A LOT of your computers run one or two administrator user accounts. Chances are that all of you have a great clue on what you are doing right now. In this case UAC just gets in the way. UAC will barely stop malware. My XP machine feels just as secure as this Vista machine. The only thing UAC will stop are stupid people. REALLY stupid people. On an other but almost releated subject, The thing that irritates me though is that Vista was basically advertised as a "family" os. I don't care how many family privacy protection and file sharing features your operating system has. I can handle all of that myself, thank you very much. And on the final subject I'm pretty sure my dad has at least 5-10 XP licences sitting around here. I might end up dual-booting XP just to get around the Vista annoyances, all while being able to run applications that "require" vista for no other reason other than to force you to upgrade.

    We <3 Windows

The big reason why I haven't gone 64 bit -- 16 bit applications. I HATE having to use them these days but there are several applications I use a lot that are 16 bit, which either don't have their source released or better altneratives. Running them from within a VM also is very annoying.

    Download the ZDoom Laucher

In general OO stuff always finds a way to drive me nuts but when it comes to C# it certainly worked better with me than, say, Java.

    Games with good music

I kinda liked some of the unreal music. It definitely set the theme of the game well.

    Who's this guy?

I think the removal of demons is what screwed it up. You can do A LOT more with demons than mutations, since demons are backed with "Demon Magic". In Doom 3 there's several scenes where you are walking through a UAC base and then you find a lava pit in the middle of a corrodor with a few tiles floating over it. That's not something you could easily do in a setting involving people who have mutated. (Ok, so perhaps the mutations cause them to rip up tiles, dig pits, fill them with lava, and then put a hover-device on the tiles, but that sounds rather stupid for a mutation to do)

    Expired foodstuff

I once ate a slice of bread. I reached for the next slice in the bag to see that it was moldy. It turns out that the loaf was actually moldy and I never noticed it. The slice I ate didn't taste very off but it was probably also affected by the mold. EDIT: I've also had a moldy hamburger bun or two. Usually it's only bread that will go bad if anything is actually going to go bad. The rest we tend to finish before it would go bad (or before it reached its expiration date)

    Viewing doom maps?

There is a nice thing called "Trying Anyways". You should try (no pun intended) it sometime. Usually it doesn't have bad results if it fails, and hey, if it works it saves you time :P

    Childhood Memories ....

I have a pyro-GX from descent made out of legos sitting in my room right now. I've had these things for ages. And I'm still building up my collection. They are fun when you have nothing else to do.

    Doom Advent Calendar 2009

Yeah, I've been inactive with my map due to vacation. I'll hurry up now though. I do have a idea on what I want the rest of the map to look like.
