    This face was supposed to be upscaled and close to original as possible, like any other sprites and textures in this thread, so forget about realism, proportions etc. Using this technology we can create Doomguy face we all know, that fit to status bar and overall classic Doom art style perfectly. If you want more realistic stuff (but not matching with Doom art style) you can check my old 3d sculpt:

    Topic is about neural upscale, so I used original sprites proportions. I wanted to show technology. All this stuff above is only few minutes of work in app. Maybe someone with more time then I can produce with this some more stuff. I know, maybe this is not exactly "upscale", but final result can be resize to original resolution and they look exactly the same as original lowres art.

    Doom with PBR materials

    Hi folks! It's been a while since I've been updated my hires stuff for Doom. Just a few days ago I realized that latest GZDoom supports PBR materials so I decide to take a look at this. Cause I don't have much time as before (working on some fps for gamedev company right now so I usually sit in front of a computer for too many hours a day and don't have much time for other projects) this project may develop slowly than the previous one but guess what - I decide to make most of textures ones again. So here we go - first attempt to famous E1 floor texture (tools used: Maya, ZBrush, PS, Quixel): And dirty version: UPDATE 2018-07-04 Modeling startan3 - continuation. I really spend a lot of time analyzing this one and I came to conclusion that even id artist didn't know what the hell is that supposed to be. He probably drew some cool looking sci-fi panel wall and not bother with material that this panels were made. Metal seems to fit the most regarding numerous rusty leaks, but shape of panels (and vague description in Doom Bible) give an indication that this was supposed to be some kind of cushion-like panels which we could watch in '70-'80 sci-fi movies like Alien (look at Nostromo corridors) or Star Wars (corridor in Falcon Millenium). I don't know for sure if this is the best interpretation, so I decide to make some tests and build that one in 3 versions: cushion panels, metal and concrete. For now I have modeled sci-fi paneled version to see how it works. So here we go: Base shape: PBR preview: I'm planning to test it in game today.     I clearly emphasized that I'm talking about smart reusing of some old engine and printer parts for Nostromo decoration. They used old cheap (or free) crap and have achieved very impressive and realistic effect.

    Look at 1979 Alien, and no, no in term of budget. Look at the Nostromo interior - old engine parts are used for realistic sci-fi decoration as well as printer parts and other metal crap. So, no, it's not only matter of budged., it's more matter of some kind of general idea of what you want to do. The only idea I see here so far is let's make some most generic sci-fi shit in history.

    Low budget bla bla... Saw it yesterday and it's total crap. No atmosphere, no tense, tons of zombies (wearing a tie, hell no...), tons of shiny new plastic everywhere, only two kind of demons, extremely stupid ending. Say what you want but it's a total crap. They even hire actor looked exactly like Doomguy's avatar and they didn't even use it.

    Well, because I've noticed this mod uses my old textures I decided to try out how it will look with the new ones just for fun
  18. I invite you to play a pre-beta version of Doom Reborn - a replica of classic Doom recreated on idtech4 engine. I collaborate with Doom Reborn team as a graphic/3d modeller. If you expect some more advenced architecture or level layout - I have to disappoint you, because the main goal of this mod is to recreate classic Doom with his dynamic gameplay but with better graphics and lighting - so I call this a replica instead of remake. So far there is only pre-beta v.1.5 version, so there is still some bugs here and there (expect many texture misalignment). GameHacker, which is the project leader still working on it, adn he doing really titanic work with all this levels (you can play even e1m8b).     Although his legs are bending the wrong way (which affects of overall strange pose of him) I think it's perfect. That one from 2016 is one of the biggest mistakes in game character design history.

    I could count at least 3 good things I see in the trailer for cheering up: - impy monster closeup scene - Phobos surface - 2 guys looking like Doomguy from original status bar :) Maybe the trailer was done by another team/company? Is a common practice from what I know, so there is still some chance this movie doesn't suck so much.

    We're talking about 40 years of sci-fi movies evolution in every visual aspect (cgi/fx/environment decorations etc). And now, in 2019 we have decorations made of super cheap, extremely clean plastic which cover every single inch of whole scene including walls, floors, weapons, costumes. It's less a matter of budget but more a case of some graphical/composition intuition. In '79 Alien they used the old printer parts and fuel engines to cover all Nostromo walls. But, hey if we talking about low budget - is it really so expensive to use some dirt here and there?

    Yeah, it's sound logic and, hey, we have XXI century now, so that kind of method I used is so last-gen. I suppose that GZDoom offers some more advenced method, maybe even combining meshes with light actors, but I don't have time to learn all that stuff now.
