  1. Hey guys, I was considering getting Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix and I was wondering how well it runs on the current Windows 7 OS.

Soldier Of Fortune 2: Will it run on Win7

oh shit! I posted this in the wrong thread. To the powers that be, please move this to the "Everything Else" section. Thanks
  3. I was looking around youtube and other various sites on old school 2.5D FPS's that are horror themed and found two interesting ones: Killing Time (originally on the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer)and the cult classic of the FPS genre: Blood. Both exude a proper horror atmosphere while at the same time show no fear in being a bit tongue and cheek about it. What I would like to hear from you guys is which one you think is more successful in being scary. For my money, it's Blood. Although I've never played Killing Time (although I really want to and plan on getting the PC version), it looks a lot more light-hearted in comparison.

Killing Time vs Blood. which was Scarier?

He was talking about Shadow Warrior and I kind of agree. Hovever, when every company going with the shareware model is putting out at least two registered episodes, having only one is a bit suspicious. But hey, that's Post-Duke3D Apogee Software for ya.

Killing Time vs Blood. which was Scarier?

I kind of figured, but I felt it wouldn't hurt to try. Thank you for replying respectfully
  6. Hello everybody, as the title suggest, I'm currently on the search for a new laptop. My main interest is the graphics card. I'm not looking for a gaming laptop, as they are far too expensive. Besides, modern games aren't what I want to run. To get to the point, I'm trying to figue out what processors are best for running OpenGL required games and source ports. I would like to run High resolution packs for eduke32 and the doomsday engine, but I'm not sure where to turn. As far as I know, AMD and Intel are my only options. My gut tells me to go forAMD as my last laptop had an Intel Core i3 m330 and could not do didly squat as far as OpenGL was concerned (it ran DirectX just fine though). I've also heard good things about Nvidia, but I don't think it comes in premade laptops. So basically, I'm just looking for suggestions. What processor(s) has worked best for you? Also, has anyone else had problems with the Intel Core i3 M330 as far as OpenGL was concerned? Thanks in advance.
  7. When I got my laptop. I was under the ignorant impression that any graphics card could run OpenGL as a standard process. Thankfully, lesson learned big time. In response to the apple argument, I wouldn't even consider bothering with apple, regardless of gpu's. Apple's don't offer much options in the gaming department in general compared to Microsoft. Sure, they may run the entire Marathon trilogy and a spiffy version of Wolfenstein 3-D, but that's about it as far as exclusivity in my intrest. Anything else was made for (and at times exclusive to) Microsoft OS's
  8. Ok, does this include both the GeForce and Quatro models? Also, is AMD, despite being inferior, atleast still compitent in the field of OpenGL?
  9. Are nvidia gpu's commonly sold in premade laptops or would I have get it seperetly?
  10. Yeah, sorry. I'm not specifically knowledgeable in the fieild of hardware. But thank you for the input. That is what I mean't :)

    Hexen vs. Strife

Hi again. I'm just wondering which game you guys think is the more superior game: Hexen or Strife and why. I have always been a huge Hexen fan. The game was a part of my childhood. Strife on the other hand I had not heard about until a few years ago. I have learned that it, like Hexen, is hub based and is generally a big game. I saw videos on youtube and it looked pretty cool. So tell me what you think is better. BTW: If someone has already made a post like this, let me know.
  12. Before I start, let me just request that you not inform me of the rediculessness of this topic; I'm already aware. Anyway, I had a weird vision: I am a big fan of both Doom and Duke Nukem 3D. I also am one of the few people on the planet who has a love for the console ports and I came up with a comparison of which port is equal to what. I'm comparing the three major console ports of Duke Nukem 3D in the 90's with the four earliest console ports of Doom. Here is what I've got so far: Doom Ports: Doom (Jaguar) Doom (32X) Doom (SNES) Doom (3DO) Duke Nukem 3D Ports: Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown (Playstation) Duke Nukem 64 (N64) Duke Nukem 3D (Saturn) And the results so far: Duke Nukem 64 = Doom (Jaguar) Why: Both run the Smoothest, have no in-game music, and ditch the Episode Select screen. Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown = Doom (SNES) Why: Both have the most pc accurate levels, episode select, well-liked music, and run laggy. Duke Nukem 3D = ??? Comment: I need some help with this. Here is the reason why I made this post in the first place. I want to know what you think is the Doom port that is more equivelant to the saturn port of Duke Nukem 3D. Two choices left: Doom (32X) or Doom (3DO)

Random Doom/Duke Nukem 3D Port Comparison

Actually, I knew that there were more console ports for both games, I just used process of elimination. We all know Doom had a ton of ports, I just used the four ports that didn't rely on different music and sounds to change the mood (IE: PSX and Saturn ports). Duke nukem 3D on the Genesis and the Game.com weren't really ports; they were more like butchered quarter bloods of there former selves (Which is understandable considering the hardware). I wanted to include the Gameboy Advance version of Doom, but I felt more like eliminating the list down to ninties games.

    Super Nintendo For Xmas

Hey guys, I don't know if any of you remember, but I made a post on the Doom forums asking which cartrige system to get for doom. Originally I thought I would get a Jaguar, but after awile, I thought about getting Wolfenstein 3D as well, and I honestly don't like the Jaguar port. So when it came time for my mother to ask me what I wanted for Christmas, I happily asked for a super nintendo: because one-sided sprites, censorship, and high pixilation don't scare me LOL. For the purpose of this topic, I would like your imput as to what other games I should get for it once the time comes for me to get games on my own. What games do you like? Thanks in advance.

    Overkill and E1M1

I was looking up thrash metal songs on youtube and I came across a song that had a riff similar to At Doom's Gate. It wasn't Metallica's "No Remorse" or "Master of Puppets". It wasn't Slayer's "Behind the Crooked Cross" or King Diamond's "The Family Ghost". Hell, it wasn't even DRI's "Hooked". It was a song no one has mentioned before and it's called "Elimination" by Overkill. The riff isn't as identical as "Hooked" or "No Remorse" but the rhythm is very similar. Problems with PrBoom and PrBoom-plus

Hey guys, I'm having trouble with what I jokingly call the PrBoom series (PrBoom and PrBoom-plus). Basically, for some weird reason, when in gameplay it will randomly exit. When I used a music wad in PrBoom-plus, it did this right when I clicked on 'New Game'. I'm wondering what are the possible reasons for doing this. I would really like to know how to fix this because I have grown a fondness to these perticular source ports. Thanks in advance.

I apologize, it won't happen again. BTW: Thank you, entryway. This version works great! You are a godsend

Huh, I just realized that my PrBoom-plus doesn't work at all and has the same message

So far, I'm not having this problem with the regular PrBoom

    Problems with PrBoom and PrBoom-plus

So far, as I test out the crashes, when I use music wads on PrBoom-plus, it reads: W_GetNumForName: M-EPI4 not found

    Problems with PrBoom and PrBoom-plus

I have windows xp. I used PrBoom 2.4.7 and PrBoom Plus 2.4.8.5. I was playing mainly doom.wad v1.2 and doom.wad v1.9 (not ultimate although I downgraded them from ultimate doom). The one music wad in perticular that i was using was the prjdoom.wad. I'm not too sure about the computer's prossecer because I didn't buy it and the one who did (my mother) doesn't know jack shit about computers.

    Overkill and E1M1

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's the be-all and end-all of possabilities(excuse my spelling). And you're right, it is a stupid argument, but I just thought that if people believe that an unidentical song like "The Family Ghost" or worse yet, an already covered song like "Behind The Crooked Cross" would be reasonable possabilities, it was only fair that I put my two cents in.
  24. Hi everybody. Let me start off by saying that I'm looking for a cartrige system to play doom on. I have Doom 64, which is good in its own right, but it left me craving for an actual port. I perfer using cartrige based consoles because I simply feel more comfortable using them over cd-based systems, even though cd's show off more of the console's abilities. My top two choices are SNES or Jaguar. I may or may not add the 32X into the equation due to the fact that it's basically a watered down version of the Jaguar port with in-level music.
