Heretic: Treasure Chest - PLEASE FILL IN SLOTS!

That was EXACTLY what I feared, since certain things in the modified Doom engine which heretic uses are hardcoded and not as configurable as in doom.

Lord_Z, what I think would be the best solution is that we allow some music specialist to put what he thinks would fit. Or else, that we have everyone putting in their levels what they want. I don't know anyhing about changing musics, and frankly, I really don't mind any of the musics put in my levels. Whatever someone thinks would fit, fine. If I remember correctly, in Doom, there was always a way of going around the music order. Try classic vanilla megawads like requiem, memento mori, alien vendetta, I think the music order was changed. Can't be sure about heretic, though. Well, I guess there should be people responsible for all that, just as there should be the ones to tweak a little the status-bar colours, graphics etc. if possible. But that's just my idea.

Lord_Z and dreaopp: I played the maps from both authors and they are absolutely fantastic, I think. The new e1m7 with balanced lighting blem me away, great style and awesome design and detailing. I actually thought that older e3m6 music was better, but please ignore me. I'd be a hipocrite not to mention that I usually play with music and sometimes even sound switched off. I can't seem to get my hands on the most recent texture pack, no download works, so I PM-ed ler to send it to me. With my current version, I had missing textures in e4m4. Setting that aside, though, I must admit I still wasn't terribly happy with that one. I didn't like the starting fight, the map layout was a bit bland and unconvincing, the incescepable lava pit drove me mad, and the windy part with falling off from rocks into a lava which partly hurts and partly doens't hurt also was a no-no. It reminded me heavily on those sloppy Doom 2 levels. The ammo and weapon placement was definitely not up to my alley either. Anyway, it has some cool ideas, but it will need reworking, putting make-up, detailing, layout changes etc., I think.

Okay, everyone, rest assured that I've built e2m6 COMPLETELY from scratch, every linedef, every sector, and all of it done in doom builder. I've posted several versions of the map, and few days ago I sent ler the latest tweaked version, and before that (in the previous tread), I asked several people for feedback, evaluation, advice, etc. As I said, it's technically my first relesed map ever, so it does look a bit patchworky maybe. In some ways, it was deliberately so to give it a unique "feel" with a few strange ideas. If there are objections to my mapping style or skills, well what can I say, I'm sorry. I did my best, but I'm still learning. I don't even have any random map generators on my HD. Ler: I asked several times and posted you to say what you mean about the map. If you find it inacceptable, send it back, open the slot and redraw the map. It won't be wasted, instead I'll redo, retexture, rework the map and I'll release it as a standalone doom map. If there are parts that need to be reworked to be included, I'll do that as well, but that's it.

Aaaaah, so that's the problem! Gee, for a moment I though I was mad... But it's not clear with me than, which one should I download? The one which is on the first page now? Snarboo: I didn't use jumping for the green key or anywhere else, I simply kissed the wall, and voila! But if you prevented that from happening, then it's all fine.

What is your favorite DOOM 1 WAD and why?

Crusades: Unholy War. The best work of Richard Wiles, and an inspirational masterpiece. If only the original 3 episodes are allowed, then Phobos: Anomaly Reborn for architecture only, and CH Retro Episode for the overall "feel".

I used that one for Snarboo's e1m3, tested it in gzdoom, and got the missing floor texture mark on the exit teleport.

First, I'm a little confused as to which texture set is the right one. I use the one posted on ler's FIRST POST. It would be nice to remove all the wrong links, since it's confusing. With this texture set I got the messed-up exit floor in Snarboo's map. Snarboo: Except for that missing texture, I noticed another weirdness. In gzdoom, I managed to grab the green key before the yellow one. I doubt this was the intention. Otherwise than that, though, I think the map is absolutely great, and the layout is very nicely set up.

In gzdoom, it worked fine (unsurprisingly), but in some areas the "sky" effect turned out strange. For example, the blue key building, when looked from the outside (on that broken ledge), was cut off by the sky texture. It looked bad, and there are some better solutions for this available, you can, perhaps try with a teleport pad and make another courtyard instead somewhere on the map, to avoid this effect, or build the outer face of the building differently, because the inner part around the blue key looked pretty great. It'll require some cleverness and some hastling, but it's possible to solve. It's always tricky to pull this effect off right, if you're not in zdoom, for you must give it a sense of real space. Unfortunately, the orginal doom engine isn't exactly geared towards this "end of the world" style, when I planned to incorporate this in my map, I needed to spend some time overthinking about the layout. And I'm still not sure how it'll turn out. The gameplay was okay, though, a bit frustrating in some parts, esp. until you get the crossbow, but the essentials turned out fine. Anyway, it's a daring level that'll give split opinions, which is pretty cool.

Lord_Z, I took over your soul, you're just not aware of it. Yet. Muhahahahahaha... Ah, so I see. 'Cause I wondered about the title, googled, found the dictionary, and voila...

I don't hate you. But imagine my reaction when I saw the inverted room. All numb, haha. I figured out another mystery (I think), you're Dutch, or Flemish, right? Anyway, it's a bold level to make. Don't worry, my map is in a little bit of a hibernation anyway, as I literally didn't have time to open doom builder last week. I'd say, it's roughly around 15% complete. Next week, I plan on mapping, but my mapping never goes fast anyway.

Lord_Z: You bastard! You stole my ideas for a level. No seriously. I started working on e2m9 and I have started building "inverted" areas. The sky thing is there as well, and the level has a very similar location. How did you know? I mean I know you didn't, but hells, it was meant to be a surprise. Now I'm gonna have to do something else myself. :) Yeah, anyway, I'll playtest it properly later on, now I'm in a little state of shock, because the initial reaction was OMG! It looks completely nuts. I love it. The moment I pressed the door, I knew your level will have that same "surreal on acid" feel. Anyway, now I have to think on what to do myself, since you beat me on the "inverted" thing.

When I proposed opening of episodes 4 and 5, Torn's list of maps was exactly what I had in mind. Some of his mappers got back here. Sweet. Now, the episode 5 may never get claimed, so maybe we'll have only 4 episodes of finished work, for I see no reaon to force 45 maps, if there's a shortage of mappers. However, 3 episodes will MOST CERTAINLY not be enough, unless some people's work is to be kicked out, and I don't think that would be fair. And let's bear in mind that it's likely that some new people will still come. As for heretic megawad, well technically, there were some heretic episodes and even multi-episode projects, but a work of this caliber and quality was never released, so this will certainly be a first TRUE heretic megawad. :)

Heretic: Treasure Chest - PLEASE FILL IN SLOTS!

This was built as a limit-removing community project, so I don't think we'll have this. The only possibility would be if someone would care to rework the WHOLE PROJECT, and release a separate zdoom version. Anyway, I doubt it would happen. For now, we're having enough problems piecing it all together and making quality maps, so I don't think anyone would wish to bother with this stuff.

Magicsofa, whatever you do, crank up the damn lighting in the darkest parts of caves. The darkness drove me mad, it was literally pitch-black on my monitor, I just give up in frustration and noclipped to see the whole layout. A few minutes ago, I finished the map first time, but with saving. It's a common thing to misjudge lighting and make it too dark, because the whole texture pallette is slightly darker than doom's.
