Hardly "butchered". Two levels were admittedly completely ruined thematically and the redesign for the Medikit and Stimpack was shoddy, and the engine update itself is certainly inferior to almost any attempt at a source port, but to call the games "butchered"... o lawd.

I'd need to have kept up with gaming in the first place in order to fall behind. Seriously though, no. I just don't leap in for day-one/midnight releases or get on board any hype trains because it seems to me that a lot of new releases are "disposable", in that they get a load of praise and attention leading up to and on release, then disappear quietly and everyone forgets about them -- I'd much rather wait for a price drop if that's the case. That, and in many cases I'm not particularly interested in the so-called "next big thing".

For the love of god give yourself a full plan and don't even think about just winging it through the mapping process. Why? Because once you hit the infamous Mapper's Block and doodle the hundredth mindless sector only to delete everything your motivation will drop like a lead fucking balloon. -
Short answer: Yes to everything if you're using UDMF for your levels. Get GZDoom Builder and play around with it: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?t=32392 1. Setting monsters and whatnot to friendly is easy in UDMF, as it's literally nothing more than ticking a box on Thing properties. There are a few predefined Marine actors in ZDoom that you can apply this Friendly flag to and they'll wander around blasting any monsters that they encounter, but keep in mind that they're limited to the same basic AI as the monsters themselves and won't behave in any manner that could convince anyone that they're other players (so they're not true 'bots'). 2. This project gives "fake" bots that are much more player-like but are still limited in some ways, so they won't exactly be solving any puzzles. 3. Yes, with the use of dummy sectors and tags and all the other funderful stuff you'll have to get to grips with. A lot easier than it may seem at first. 4. Yes. Original, Link's Awakening, A Link to the Past. Oh and Link: The Faces of Evil. Not really played any of the others (except Zelda II some 12 or so years ago but that just pissed me off and I've disliked it since). Edit: Oracle of Seasons/Oracle of Ages are worth a look too.

What a load of old shi- No, wait, that's my recent delve into the depths of D!Zone. --- So what we've got here is actually quite nice, very much so visually, albeit as far as action goes it's a tad too generous with firepower. I mean, a Super Shotgun as soon as things start? Considering what we end up fighting against, that sort of damage probably could have waited, perhaps completely replacing the Plasma Rifle or Rocket Launcher. All in all though, a fun little stomp that could make quite a nice opening map for a small set, after some tweaking. And then I had to replay on UV and wow that was easy but I wanted a screenshot of this: Edit: Oh fuck! Yes I found the SS, wasn't hard to detect the required trigger thanks to some other item placement but actually aiming for it was a bit of a cunt. -

Just attempted MAP02, interesting idea regarding all the keys and choices, but something broke toward the end and I don't really know what/why (helpful, I know), stopping me from grabbing a Skullkey. Also you might want to swap that starting Shotgun pickup for a Chaingun. On grabbing an initial keycard I decided to backpedal away (because ambush tropes) and was unable to kill the one Chaingunner whose weapon I'd be able to take, while Shotgun Guys are everywhere. Meaning I had to trudge through yet another map with only the bloody Shotgun, which soon got boring.

Might be worth noting that the project is UDMF. Anyway, played through MAP01 so far, not bad. The switch maze was fucking tedious though, especially with all the Demons serving no purpose other than to just get in the way and eat lead. You could probably cut most of that section out and lose nothing of value.
