    Thanks for playing it through, Da Werecat! As for the things you noted: 1. Yes and no :D He has a face, but only if you look at him from the side. He is placed in the wrong direcetion obviously - Don't know how I missed it. I guess you noticed that all Sprites in the game are always "looking at the player". Yet many of the people that have played it so far (who were not familiar with the Doomengine) always thought that the tax collector had spotted them when they burgeled his house, so I eventually did a "backside" of this npc, and since the guy in the herb shop is the same npc-type, he also has this "backside". 2. Okay, but actually that was meant that way, or do you mean they just occupy too much space? 3. Well yes this would look silly indeed, but as I've said in the opening post I recommend playing it without GzDoom/OpenGl anyway and "normal" ZDoom rendering doesn't have any light effects. 4. Yes, the pit... should have been deeper, you're right ;) 5. Yes, prayer equals armor restoring. Everytime an NPC says somethg like "be blessed" (like the hermit or baal thasar) you should get full armor. 6. My wav sounds always come out somehow distorted when I import them into my Wads :( Don't know why.. 7. Thanks for the kind words... It's hard to say when I started the project but the idea of creating a doomengine-based game "from scratch" is probably already 5 years old. I always had many, many ideas which I tried to put in gamebooks, but when I learned how to do maps with DB and XWE, a dream was fulfilled for me :D I began working on an early version of this back then which i eventually gave up. There are basically not much remains from that early version in the current game. The original version was designed to be a pure dungeoncrawler game. Last year I began working on it again (because I hate not finishig things), it probably took me half a year or something to get it done and i "released" it in winter last year.

    Oh, none of the players and playtesters noticed that so far, neither did I... :/ I will wait until other minor bugs are spotted and then I might do a little patch to fix these things. Meanwhile it should be the best if noone exploits this obvious bug ;)

    Thank both of you for the nice feedback! @Doomhuntress: Looks like you are nearly through all of it ;) You are abolutely right, the level design is a bit flat and I have probably even done better in the past (although I did not release much maps here). When I originally started the project, I wanted it to look a bit like Shadowcaster so I did not care much about ceiling heights and stuff but after all I did not came around using at least some height differences, that's why there might be a bit of a contrast sometimes. Hmm that doesn't sound like a bad idea with the music, indeed... Glad you like it so far!

    Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it so far :) Actually it was originally designed to be played with blasphemer (using the blasphemer palette) but i eventually switched to heretic during the progress of the work.

    Hmm which ZDoom Version did you use? I just checked mine, it says "Version 2.6". PS: Just downloaded the newest version 2.7 and it worked as well... maybe you are using an older one?

    Since there is a lot of trouble with examens in the moment and until February, I won't be able to start mapping before. So I doubt I will find the time to create something worth this project, unfortunately. So best thing would be to take me out of the list. If, however, I should be able to come up with a whole map ind february/april, I will post it here. If the project is already done then, I will give it over to blasphemer.

    I see Deathevokation's point, too many new textures are not that good for the atmosphere, especially when they do not match to the original ones. Yet, a small, decent amount of some textures might be a good idea, Heretic just has a very small selection of textures. But, as I said, not too many new textures, the mapper should still be "forced" to use a lot of the original stuff so that the map does not lose the Heretic feeling to it. Although I have a lot of work a the moment, I might do something if there would be a new project for Heretic indeed, just because I love that game. But one querstion I have to ask you: What is a hit scanner? edit: ok I think I just found out what this is, a enemy like the shotgunner from doom? Hmm, I don't really know if I would like something like this in Heretic, in my opinion it is better to see the projectiles, and i think fireballs and magic missiles fit better in the world of HEretic than a hitscan-enemy (although I know dragonclaw and wand are hitscanners as well, but this is something else :D). Yet, I think a new enemy would be nice, but it is very important that it does fit to the rest in terms of graphical style. I think Realm 667 provides some nice Heretic-style enemies.

    OPk, so I'll explain why I want to achieve this: I made a little stand-alone-game using ZDoom. Since this runs as ZDoom-Heretic, there is no jumping possible by default. now since i passed this wad file to a few games with a copy of zdoom, many of them came to me with questions like: " know i have to jump in this situation, but it is not possible..." and so on. Of course I could say everyone of them: "you have to select a jump key under Options => Customize Controls" - but I think this is a bit dull, because it is practically a stand-alone-game using ZDoom engine, so I think if you are starting the game you should immidiately be able to control the player figure like it is required and you should not be forced to set new controls before you are playing the game. and as I know the people I gave the wad file I know many of them won't read the readme so there will be lots of confusion concerning this thing. So I think, it would just be the best to preset a key for jumping, If someone wants to change it, he can do so later on but it should be possible without any editing.

    I doesn't work :( Going through your checklist: - yes it is, at least i can jump in it when binding the key manually in the menue - no i don't think so - yes, as i said it is binded to "PAD_Y" but I don't know what this is. Can I somehow delete this setting in the KEYCONF and define a new one?

So I have my KEYCONF lump in the wad but what exactly has to be in it? I tried: defaultbind m=+jump and several other variations but it won't work :(

    Old Heretic speedmap by me

    Hello! A few days ago I digged up a map called "Refuge of the Marsh-Lord" that I created in 2010. Some of you might remember there was the second Heretic speedmapping session back then. After I had already participated in the first session and enjoyed it very much, I wanted to join in the second session as well. But there was a tiny little problem, I was too stupid to read the instructions and created a singleplayer map instead of the deathmatch map that was demanded. End of the story was I did not release the outcome. But after I have found it again and played through it, I think some here might enjoy it: Don't get me wrong, it's just a 1-day-speedmap, therefore it neither has great details, nor those it have a long gameplay, it's very short indeed. But I thought I might not be the only one here who has the opinion that there is a huge lack of Heretic wads here, so those who are just thirsty for Heretic stuff (like I am) should give it a try. So far, I created only 3 Wads at all, one of them being E1M1 of the first Speedmapping session, the other being E2M9 of the Treasure Chest. This, now, is my third try (or my second? Don't know anymore if I build this before HTC...). Therefore I am always looking for some feedback and critics :) At the moment, the map isprobably too easy, so I would not recommend playing this on an easy difficulty level. And I would recommend using GZDoom, besides a Mapinfo lump it doesn't use any ZDoom features, but the fog effect just looks cooler in OpenGl (my opinion ;)) Here is the download link: http://www.speedyshare.com/AZH9W/rotml.wad edit: Although it is not forbidden technically in th mapinfo, jumping is NOT allowed here, play this like its vanilla ;)

    Yes, I remembered I uploaded a version of this but there were quite a few bugs around and I tried to fix them and added the new textures.. Very good idea! But please singleplayer maps again :D I do not have that much multiplayer experience so I do not know how a good multiplayer map should look like. But if it is singleplayer, I would love to join again.
  22. Is there any way to find out what difficulty level you are currently playing on during game in ZDoom? A few days ago I found an old Hexen savegame and since i wanted to play this game again anyway, I just continued with this one. but i have no idea what difficulty setting this is, yet i would be interesting for me. Any way to find this out? First thing I thought of was the monster count but this wouldn't work because some difficulty levels share the same spawnlevels... So what could do? or is there even a command for the console?

    Hexen: Missed a secret level, now what?

    I would even cheat to get back, that's not the problem. If a player switches levels within a hub, the game remembers which enemied he killed and he also keeps his inventory. is there any cheat that is similiar to this behaviour? As I said, idclev resets the player to the "wand start" and all enemies and variables are reset as well :( I am always too slow to activate those kind of items :( Same problem with Disc of Repulsion, Banishment Device etc...I am always dead until i have found them in the inventory and activated them... Only items I really use are potions, kraters, icons and maybe the porkulator. But i really do miss the Tome of Power. While I do love Hexen a lot, I always thought Heretic was a bit better, one aspect of this being the fact that the player could use 8 different weapons and because of the tome it where practicaly 16. Hexen only comes with 4 for each class and since there is no tome, it feels a bit sparse, at least for a heretic geek like me :D I am glad it was re-introduced in Hexen 2 ;) edit : Oh no :( But thank you anyway...
  25. Hello, At the moment I am playing good old Hexen again. I wanted to explore all the secret levels as well. Today I did Seven Portals (with Bright Crucible) and Shadow Wood. Then I got a bit tired and dizzy and somehow forgot to enter the Sacred Grove (even though I remembered where the entrance is found) and just went on to Heresiarchs Seminary... I killed all the monsters and found the planets and when the room to the chapels opened I tried to remember what the secret level was and remembered a level called Deathwind Chapel. Then suddenly, I realised I did not enter the Sacred Grove and got very angry about myself. Is there anything I can do? I do not have any savegames anymore. and if i would warp to the level via idclev, all monsters would be there as well and i would lose my inventory. so is there anyway to warp back without losing stuff and all that i have managed to do so far? :( Thank you!
