    Doom 3 novel. Update.

Cool. I wish I didn't have to wait a year for the third book.

    Doom 3 novel. Update.

Just finished reading Doom3 Book 2 Maelstrom last night. I thought book 2 was pretty good, better than the first book, which was also good. One thing that disappointed me was Kane's trek through Hell. Once we finally got there, I thought- 'OK, cool, He's on his own now, in Hell, this is where the real doom begins'. Unfortunately however, Kane's journey through hell seemed quite rushed. I wanted pages of him just being on his own, feeling hopelessness and despair mixed with his never say die spirit. Costello did capture these elements briefly, and that stuff was great, the way Kane was just yelling stuff as he blew the demons away in damnation. Also I wish the Hellknight was properly introduced in the book... In someways I think that could have been sited as the main demon since it was on the game cover art. Also where the heck was the awesome Mancubus battle?, the one where the first Mancubus comes out of that huge pipe. That would have been nice. One of the main things I was looking forward to was reading through the boss battles. The Spider Demon was pretty nasty, the fight and descriptions of it's death were fun to read. The Sgt Kelly-Tank with the BFG battle was great and reminded me of fighting that thing for real, but the absence of the Guardian in hell from which Kane rescues the Soulcube was a let down. The final battle with the Cyber-demon thing was fun, but not as good as in the same battle in the game. The setting of a big hall rather than on the edge of a huge abyss was less ominous. It was pretty harsh how Kane lost his lower right leg at the end after vanquishing the main enemy! Heheh. As for all the subplots, I liked the UAC behind the scenes stuff with Ian Kelliher and his dad, but the stuff involving the scientists in the Ocean lab was a head scratcher since it all lead to nothing. Perhaps Book 3 will incorporate those threads. If there is a book three, which I think there will be, it will obviously be RoE. This is what I originally theorized for the new novel series... wonder when dsm is gonna give me that cookie and recommendation? See page one.... :)

    Doom 3 novel. Update.

Just received 'Maelstrom' Book Two of Matthew Costello's Doom3 adaptation in the post today. I'm saving it to read on the plane when I go on holiday at the end of the month, woo! Will post opinions post holiday.

    Doom 3 novel. Update.

Finished reading this recently and it was a fun read. I don't recall the Black skin reference. What I do remember is Kane noting those guys being referred to as Zombies in Mars City. It was really cool to read the first part of the fleshed out Doom3 story. My fav part was towards the end when Kane first met the Pinkie.. 'Nice Doggie' heheheh. Can't wait to see how the boss encounters are written in the next part. I think it will be really fun to read through parts of the story that were in the final game. What do ya reckon- RoE as the third book?

    Doom 3 novel. Update.

Q- Does the book have Sargent Kelly? I think it's really cool that the guy who scripted Doom3 wrote this book, and will hopefully write the future iterations. It means instead of getting a weird spin off of Doom like the 90's novelizations, this is the real deal.

    Doom 3 novel. Update.

Just discovered this novel today, can't wait to pick it up, sounds way better than the 90's novels.

    Doom 4?

Heh, don't know if ya being sarcastic or not, but I think that would be taking it a bit too far. Doom's greatness is partly down to it's simplicity so I would not want to implement independent head movement. The legs thing just annoys me tho, it's stupid. For eg- you can stand on the edge of a platform in Doom3 then swivel round so you are actually no longer on the platform and are hovering over the drop next to the platform not connected to it. The marine needs legs to bring visual clarity and logic to such movements. Look at the way they do it in Halo2. Your view is limited- you can't see your chest, but you can look down and see your pelvis downwards. That's what id should do with Doom4.

    Doom 4?

One thing I want in Doom4 is to be able to look down and see my legs/feet. I just think it's pretty dumb and illogical if you have none like in Doom3. Bungie took on this concern of the fans and added legs/feet to MC in Halo2, so I hope id do too. It would be great to see Romero come back, bring more of an old Doom feel back. I loved Doom3, it's my fav of the series, but I want bigger maps and more open areas in Doom4. Hopefully RAGE is an indication that id could be headed in this direction in Doom4.

    Doom 4?

I really hope the development does not take as long as Doom3.
