  1. I'm enjoying how extra long usernames are cut to the next line. Guess it's a good opportunity for some of us to take advantage of that yearly name change.

      We'll probably shrink that soon

  2. New layout looks a lot better when zoomed out to 80% in chrome.

It's the Twitter-like nature of the new forum that I like the most. Just sharing garbage thoughts that don't fit into a forum thread (either new or existing) and ending up with those 'off the cuff' conversations is a thing I really enjoy.

Yup. Plus having the notifications means I can just keep Doomworld open in a tab, and my posts don't feel as much 'set and forget' as they used to. Much easier for me to keep a forum conversation going now.

Oh man, this looks a lot better. Also, I, for one, also enjoy not having to put BBcode in every time I want to format text. Makes life a whole lot easier. Thanks for the tip!

  3. You can mouse over a thread title and see the latest post, very cool.

But you can't mouse over a status update and see it fully. Kinda sucks.

  4. This is kinda like facebook except I feel like I actually know people here

Had to look for this as well... It was probably "hidden" on purpose. ;-)

  6. People on IRC know already, but I got married back in June and I just closed on the purchase of a home a few weeks ago. I thought about it today and realized that it's kinda weird I haven't posted anything about the house on any social media, and most of my friends don't even know about it. And here I am posting about it on Doomworld.

Well my wife and I have finally settled in comfortably. We're still tied to our old apartment for most of next month (gotta finish out the lease), but otherwise the move is over and I can relax again. Of course, now I'm a homeowner so I can probably never relax again. Cable and internet are hooked up, the place is already mostly furnished and decorated the way we like (my wife doesn't waste time, haha), and I'm already used to my new commute.

Even with the increased responsibility involved in home-ownership, as opposed to renting, I've felt my stress levels decrease greatly over the past few weeks in just having a real home to come back to at the end of every day. The last year or so in my apartment was driving me to the brink of insanity, with seemingly less and less space each day for the two of us to do what we each wanted to do. Then we got a dog, which was a HUGE change to the way we lived. All that has changed with the house, and I feel like I've got my personal life back. All in all it feels like it was the right move.

Awesome, good for you, man! What's nice is that now your money is going towards yourself, into your house - more like an investment than a monthly bill that carries your cash away. Best of luck!

  7. A certain Pavs Wilco turns 22 on Thursday, and he is craving Doomworld's love and attention! Do you people love (or hate) me enough to make me a birthday map? If I get enough, I'll compile them all and cast them on my livestream sometime next week. Otherwise I might just have to be really unhappy.

Thanks for the lovely wishes, and special thanks to those of you who have delivered thus far: Obsidian, Memfis! Alfonzo, I'm holding you to that.

That birthday map I made you last year on a day that wasn't your birthday was pretty baller.

I don't know if I can top it, and as you know, between now and the next few days is crunch time for me.

Has anyone ever re-gifted a map?

  8. Book I was just a bunch of boring exposition. And for this less than monumental (yet still kinda cool) birthday, I received a greater gift than I could have ever asked for:

How I Met Your Mother: Seasons 1-5 on DVD. Also a set of Pink Floyd beer glasses to take down to college park with me.

No cake though. But I did have a nice prime rib at Outback!

Good question, I'll be moving there in august to live in a house with a bunch of people so I guess I'll find out. I'm assuming you live in PG County, where at?

Nope, I'm from PA, but I do some consulting work for Maryland-DOT.

Cool, I'm roaming around PG County usually about once a month for work. I was wondering something - where do U of M kids go for nightlife, etc? Because College Park the town doesn't seem to have a lot in the way of easily accessible (i.e. walkable) places to socialize...does everyone just take the T into DC on the weekends? Or is there just some cluster of bars, etc. in College Park that I'm totally missing?

I live up in DC and while I can't say what there is to do in PG County I do know plent of places to go if you can make it into the District. I know there's a PG county/college park stop on the green line of the metro, so if you ever wanted to go have a night out and not worry about having to drive there's a shit ton of nightlife over here :P

Oh, I know all about DC nightlife (in fact, I could make a pretty good argument that Adams Morgan is the single coolest neighborhood on the planet). I was just curious if there is anything for UMD kids to do at night without having to take the T into the city.

  9. And what do I have to show for it?

Quite a bit: I have a full beard, two (1.5) jobs, I go to school full time, and.. well that's it. Oh and I have a slick phone.

    Happy Birthday to me.

Even with a safety razor, I have a 5 o'clock shadow. My hair is just too thick, even on my face. I've actually been told by multiple hair stylists (including my sister) who tell me I have the thickest hair they've ever seen. :P The weird thing is that I don't really have that much body hair. Also, I wasn't able to grow a full beard until I was 22ish. Before then, it was just coming in way too patchy.
