Discuss the CD emulation software problem

I looked up what every last process in my task manager was and got rid of everything offending, which only included Norton Ghost (NOPDB.EXE), but no go. And I have no image drives. BTW, just out of curiosity, when a modern game requires a CD to run, is it always because it needs to pluck info off the CD, or is it just so that you can't play the game without a physical copy of it?
  2. I've got the "CD emulation software detected" error, and I've uninstalled everything that has anything to do with CD burning/emulating/ripping, which includes Clony XXL, Clone CD, Nero, and dBpowerAMP. But after rebooting it still complains. I've heard two solutions: First, uninstall Norton Ghost. To do that I'd have to uninstall my whole Norton SystemWorks, which means I'd have no virus protection or decent defragger, and anyways I paid good money for that package. The other solution was to clean my registry to make sure that every trace of my other apps are gone. I found a Clone CD folder in RegEdit, and I could probably find more stuff, but I have no idea what I'm doing in there, so could someone either help me clean my registry or offer a way to run the game with all my nice apps intact (which is what I'm hoping to accomplish ultimately. Right now I'd be happy just to play the damn game though.) I've heard talk of a no-cd crack. What is this? If it involves running everything from my hard drive (as in basically copying the whole friggin cd over, like a cd emulator) I'd be hesitant to do that. Thanks for any help!!

    Hexen 2 source port?

I installed Hexen 2 with both normal and GL versions. The GL version gives me glide errors that I am discussing in another forum, and it looks like I would need a VooDoo card to fix them. The normal verion, however, gives no error, but it does have scary flickering visual problems. Is there a source port out there for Hexen 2 that might fix this? I am using XP Home.

Final Doom: Divide by Zero error

Sorry, I'm kinda quick to post on forums when I have a problem, but after looking through READMEs, etc., I simply can't find an answer to this, yet another of many troubles I am having with all my new Id stuff. The problem is that when I run ZDoom in full screen mode, the screen bounces around like a TV channel with bad reception. Sorry for my continuing idiocy/horrible luck, but once I get all my nice Id games up and running I'll be happy.

Final Doom: Divide by Zero error

ZDoom worked nicely, except for a couple of things: Can I get it to load my Doom II and Final Doom save files? Also, the resolution seems very fuzzy, but that may just be becasue it starts out in a super tiny mode that I have to maximize. How can I get it to play full screen and normal resolution? I tried putting width/height flags on the shurtcut to match my computer's resolution, but it just made the HUD on the bottom tiny.

Final Doom: Divide by Zero error

I am using Doom95. Is there a source port you can recommend that does nothing but fix bugs and things like that? I don't want the actual game changed in any way. I have the same source port problem going in my Hexen/Heretic topic.
  7. In the middle of playing Final Doom, on the last level of Plutonia Experiment, my game stopped and an error came up that talked about a divide by zero problem. The same error now occurs about 5 seconds into all of my saved games (All of which are on different parts of that same level). Let me know if you need the exact message. I assumed it was the runtime error 200 thing, but it's happening in the middle of game paly (Far into it, actually) made me think that that might not be the case. If I need a Turbo Pascal 7 or whatever patch, let me know, but also, if you can, tell me where I can get a good one of those patches. I got a German one already, but it tells me that it can't open the file I specify when I try to use it. Thanks for any help!
  8. I have now tried a few Hexen/Heretic source ports, but they all seem to do lots of things I don't want. Not just mouse look or jump, but things like enhanced textures and new sprites. The feel is different, too, like the game was made on a different engine. I want a source port (or something) that purely and only makes my sound work. I even wouldn't mind too much if it gave me 3D sound, but I would like to just have my sounds fixed so that the SFX don't stutter and make the gameplay jumpy. Anything I can do?
  9. I just got a "new" copy of Hexen online (It was still wrapped, I don't know how new that makes it). The DOS installer gives me sound card options that I don't understand because I'm stupid, but I do know that if I configure it so that the sound effects are active, it plays slowly and the sound is slow, too. If I configure it so that the SFX don't even play, it runs fine. Someone told me to get a source port from this site, and I had never heard of a source port before. Which should I get for my problem? I'd just like to fix my SFX performance, and not have new anything else, like it looks like most of the source ports offer (If that's possible). Thanks for any help!
