    General structure ideas

    How about a flooded area? flooded storage area flooded reactor area flooded laboratory flooded living quarters flooded computer area Maybe a pipe or a dam burst and the whole base just filled up with water... or maybe it was the sprinkler systems like in that Resident Evil movie? I dunno. Somehow though, water has ended up pooling in places where water ought not pool... like the computer room. Maybe all the computers short circuited from the water so you can have lots of blinking lights and malfunctioning doors and whatnot?

    Alright, so here's what I want: When the player character walks over a certain linedef, some words appear on screen, saying something like "One of these doors is not like the others." How do I do that?

    OK, so I tried it out and it sorta kinda worked. 1) You have to be standing in one place where the imp can try to aim at you. 2) The corridor has to be as narrow as possible so that the doll doesn't get pushed out of the way and allow the imp to miss it. 3) It takes a while for the doll to be pushed. Maybe put the switches closer together?

Is there anything I should know before I proceed? Am I getting a little bit better?

    Question: Ok, so monsters won't target your voodoo doll, but they can still hit it if it gets in the crossfire. So heres an idea: You set a monster and your doll at one end of a narrow corridor behind an invisible wall. As soon as this monster hears you outside the corridor, it will start shooting, but because your doll is in the way it hits that instead. As your doll gets hit, it gets pushed through the corridor over healing items and multiple switch linedefs. Put an acid floor and specters in the area the player is at so they won't be wondering as much why their screen is flashing red. Should I bother attempting this? Could it work?

    I'm thinking of doing that in my mirror themed wad. You have to shoot your own reflection to progress through the level. I'm still trying to figure out a way to throw yourself into an oven...

    OK, so I know that monsters can teleport when they walk over certain Linedefs. My question is, can monsters cause other events to trigger when they walk over linedefs? For example, can a monster cause floors and ceilings to rise and fall when it walks over certain areas? I also have another question. What happens if monsters are able to pick up items? If a demon picks up say... a berserker sphere or even just a stim pack, what happens?

    Mirror Mirror on the Wall

    Well, I have a Doom 2 map I made but haven't released yet that has a doll on the other side of a 'mirror'. To obtain the red key, you must pull a switch to raise the platform that you and your doll stand on, and you must shoot at it to knock it backwards into the red key. I like the idea of having to shoot yourself as a solution to puzzles. I think it would be cool to have the words "The Only Escape is Suicide" scrawled on a wall in blood somewhere, and to fight against a monster that looks like you as a boss fight. I'm wondering if there are other ways I could convey this idea besides just shooting at yourself. So far my map has an oven in one part. I'm wondering how I could work in a puzzle where you have to somehow get your voodoo doll inside the oven in order to open a door. I mean, the game is all about fighting your way out of hell, right? And people who commit suicide are supposed to go to hell according to judeo-christian beliefs, right? I think that whole idea, plus the connection with mirrors, could make for an interesting theme for a wad.

    OK, so I'm thinking of using a voodoo doll to represent the players 'reflection' in the mirror. What are some different puzzles that can be solved using a voodoo doll?
