    dsda-doom source port [v0.23.0]

@kraflab Just to follow up on those few Hexen bugs I reported earlier, I've done a bit more testing and discovered that the two relating to widescreen assets (improperly displayed extended status bar and glitching to the fighter's punch animation) only occur in software rendering mode. I usually use software mode as I prefer the lighting, but I tried with OpenGL and both bugs disappeared. I also checked the bug with the fighter's fourth weapon graphics on the status bar, but this occurs in both software and OpenGL modes.

No problem. One other thing I'm sure you're already aware of (although I couldn't see it mentioned anywhere) is that in Hexen the title screen music doesn't play. All in-game music seems fine though. This is true in 0.22.5 and 0.21.3 at least.

    dsda-doom source port [v0.23.0]

@kraflab I understand that there's probably a lot more work to do for Hexen support, but I just wanted to point out a couple of small bugs I've noticed during my own testing that you may or may not already be aware of: - Picking up pieces of the fighter's fourth weapon cause the graphics added to the status bar to appear in the wrong place (located to the far left of the bar instead of as part of the picture of the final weapon to the right). This does not occur for the cleric or mage's fourth weapons. The following two are very minor in the grand scheme of things, but I created some simple WADs to load in nash's widescreen assets and noticed a couple of minor bugs when including these: - The extended status bar works, but doesn't display properly until the bar is is either increased or decreased in size, and then returned to normal. - In the final few frames of the fighter's final punch animation (the third punch that extends out further), there is some glitching to the far right edge of the sprite. The actual sprite within the WAD extends much further than the point the glitching occurs. This doesn't happen when using the regular 4:3 cut-off assets. I've tested my widescreen WADs in GZDoom and the above problems do not occur there, so I don't think there is any issue with the WADs themselves. The first problem with the fighter's fourth weapon graphic happens whether I use the widescreen assets or not.

    dsda-doom source port [v0.23.0]

I've been away from the community for a little while but have been doing my annual "what's new in source ports?" review, and am really excited by DSDA-Doom. Once the Heretic and Hexen support matures a little more I can easily see this being my go-to for everything. Apologies if this has already been asked, but I was wondering if there are any plans to bundle the widescreen assets from Widepix for the supported games at any point? Would be fantastic to have Heretic and Hexen weapon sprites that aren't cut off in widescreen resolutions, assuming this wouldn't mess with anything.
  5. Thanks both - that explains it!
  6. Just finished playing through this with PrBoom+ and loved it. One small question I had, and apologies if this has been mentioned somewhere I've missed, but at some point was the attack of the new lost soul enemies changed to a cacodemon's fireball? All the references to it I've seen (including YouTube videos) mention/show it being a hitscanner, but for me they were shooting caco fireballs...

Ah I see - I thought you meant it was being sold digitally somewhere.

The Top 100 Memorable Doom Maps of All Time

Edited for stupid. Disappointed to see that UAC_DEAD wasn't included. I know it's ancient, but as a Doom-playing kid back in the '90s I thought that the overturned truck with the spinning wheels was the coolest thing ever. Still sticks in my mind today!

Is there actually somewhere selling the original version?

What Enemy Makes You Most Vocal?

This is very true, but then again they're only annoying because they're a vector for more damn Lost Souls. Definitely the foremost "kill it immediately" enemy though, alongside Arch-viles of course. Imagine how annoying it would be if Viles could resurrect Pain Elementals...

What Enemy Makes You Most Vocal?

Bloody Lost Souls. They’re never not annoying, have too many HP, and frequently cause rocket-related accidents. Also when you think you’ve cleared a load of them, but there’s one lurking somewhere behind you to chip off a bit more of your health.

    Crispy Doom 5.10.3 (Update: Aug 17, 2021)

Also missing are the binaries for Heretic/Hexen/Strife, although I think I'm right in saying these don't change from version to version...

    Crispy Doom 5.10.3 (Update: Aug 17, 2021)

Got back into some serious Doom-playing after a bit of a hiatus and I have to say I'm absolutely loving Crispy Doom, which has now become my main source port as I'm really just into classic vanilla-style gameplay rather than crazy mods. As great as Cholocate Doom is, the low resolution and capped framerate are just a bit too much for my taste these days, so Crispy is absolutely perfect. Did however just want to report a weird issue I had last night with 5.4: I was playing through Icarus: Alien Vanguard (map 20 to be specific) and experienced a crash where initially the music got "stuck" and just repeated the same couple of notes over and over, while the rest of the audio completely disappeared (although I could still actually play the game). I then hit esc to open up the menu, and the game crashed completely (albeit with the split second of music still repeating over and over). I wasn't even able to Alt-Tab out or end the program with the task manager (Windows 10), and eventually had to perform a hard-reset of my laptop. I've played through the entirety of Ultimate Doom, Doom II and Memento Mori over the last couple of weeks with Crispy, and this was the first time I've experienced the issue (or indeed any issue). Not sure if there's an obvious problem here or not but thought I'd mention it!

Fog in specific sectors in zdoom?

I'm currently working on my second WAD ever (first was a terrible Doom map I made back in 2004, which was rushed and utterly sucked); a map (or possible map set depending how this first one goes) for Hexen (in zdoom). I want the outside areas of the map to be foggy ala Hexen MAP08, which I've managed to do using MAPINFO. However, I have some sectors which are technically "outside", but don't have a sky texture, and subsequently aren't foggy. My question is: is there a way to define fog on a sector-by-sector basis? I don't want the whole level to be foggy, but only having the sectors with sky texture foggy makes some areas look a bit odd.

Fog in specific sectors in zdoom?

Yeah, this does belong in the editing section, which I only realised after I posted it. Could one of the mods move it please? I understand that you can specify colour in the Sector_SetFade script, but the ZDoom wiki article says: "By default, this is whatever the level's fade is specified as being in a MAPINFO lump, or black, if it doesn't specify a fade." I was wondering whether ZDoom will take the default colour from an "outsidefog" value in MAPINFO, or if it only creates a default if you've used "fade".

Fog in specific sectors in zdoom?

Great! So if I'm using Sector_SetFade, the fog will (by default) appear in the same colour I specified in "outsidefog" in the MAPINFO lump?
