Nice pic of the plane. Aren't they magnificent? We used to engage in "extracurricular activities" and then hang out at the airport to watch planes take off and land. You could go out on an observation deck or park your car at the end of the runway (which was thrilling). Probably get thrown in prison by the TSA now.

  8. Okay, so I can make out with random girls in a night club, but in the middle of the street in broad daylight??

There are a bunch of videos on yt of a guy going up to random hot girls, making a stupid game where the outcome means he gets to give them a quick kiss. He then proceeds to have long, hot make out sessions with them, in the middle of the street, in broad daylight with people around them going about their business. He doesn't get their numbers, he just has a hot make out session with them on the spot. And most of the girls are really hot. Can someone explain to me how this happens? They seem to genuinely be into him, so even if he is paying them or it's somehow a "setup" (which I really don't think it is) it's still damn puzzling to me. I am genuinely curious how he pulls it off.

  10. So my friend likes to troll Boxing Forums (well, argue on them, anyway). And his current ex wants to get back together with him, but tells him he has to eliminate going on forums. This is a great dilemma in the life of my bud. I don't see him making this level of sacrifice, but we'll see. His last girlfriend; college sweetheart, wanted him to cut back on forums and hang out with her friends and visit with her family and stuff like this, and they broke up over this, so I don't see my bud agreeing to full elimination of going on the forums in order to get back with her (though he has been distraught over both breakups).

  11. So I went to New York City in August to see the AVGN movie. I saw it (it was very good, go see it if you like the series). I even got to briefly talk to James during the Q&A sessions (and Kyle afterward), and NYC itself seemed very cool in general, so that was a pretty awesome part of my life in 2014 (even if the rest of it has been largely uneventful, boring and even some shitty low points like my favorite cat dying).

However, I just simply don't know what to think of NYC in general a couple of months after I visited it for only really two days. It seemed so enticing, controlled chaos, make your own way, always something to do. When I was in NYC, I wanted to live there. I didn't even care if I had to put up with all the noise when trying to sleep. Then, only days later, I was like "wait, maybe this is TOO hellish of an existence?". I wondered if it was all just too much, with the only opportunity available for those with preexisting connections to the industry or craft of your choice, and getting screwed otherwise.

I dunno. It was a unique experience and I'd love to visit again, but is it worth living there? So many contradictory stories of what it's like. "Oh, yeh. Totally same living here as it is to visit" while simultaneously hearing others say "Nah, man, completely different than just visiting". Which is it, dammit? It seems to me that both types of people are projecting their successes and failures onto the city that provided them with those experiences.

Should I hate the city or love it? I don't know! I'm so confused and cannot think of what to make of my experiences as a brief visitor.

It was like driving into another country. I felt so odd, like everybody knew I was from another state.

Groups of taxis driving like maniacs trying to get in front of one another. Heroin addicts nodding on the corner. Everyone spoke spanish where I stayed. We were on a street at 3am and it's wall-to-wall with people and there's these guys standing in front of the strip-joints advertising drugs like carnival barkers. "Come inside, come inside!"

The view from the top of the World Trade Center was one of the most awesome things I've ever seen.

It was a fantastic visit but I was glad to go back to Ohio.

  13. I know it's not the best help, but the song starts off with an electric guitar sounding quite common with recent English rock bands (I believe the band is English too), going like this: na na na na na na boomp na na na na boomp na na na na na na boomp na boomp boomp. I'd use one of those websites that try to identify a song by humming into a mic but I don't have one at the moment. Also, I'm fairly sure the band has King or Kings somewhere in the name.

Never mind, found it again today.

  14. Has this ever happened to you? Suddenly you realize that you're breathing "automatically", without putting any effort into it, and then it stops working and you have to breathe by yourself. How do you get out of there? Took me forever to fall asleep last night because of this.

An overdose had me fighting to stay awake one night so that I could "manually" breathe. Couldn't move and couldn't breathe. IIRC, that was Talwin, which is a muscle relaxer.

  16. I went and saw these guys live last night with my older brother at The Orange Peel over in Asheville, NC. I have to say, these dudes bring it. If, for whatever reason, you didn't know who Led Zeppelin was and had never heard any of their music, recorded or live, you might be tricked into thinking these guys were the Real Deal. Excellent show. I would say the only downer was the fact that Stairway to Heaven wasn't played, but to make up for it, they DID play No Quarter, which is one of favorite Led Zep tunes.
Also when the drummer walked up to the front of the stage at the end of the show I caught one of his drumsticks :)

  18. NOTE: This isn't an actual tutorial on robbing yourself but there are steps that you can take from this which was demonstrated by my uncle.

Last week we received a call from my uncle whom I haven't seen in a good few years. He requested that we come down on Saturday as we hadn't seen him since he last moved house. The journey was long and consisted of a few train journeys which so happened to include the typical poncy workers going to work with their ties done up to 11, toilets that were disgusting and of course windows that wouldn't shut because that's First Crapital Connect for you. Anyway, we made it to his house in South East London, had the BBQ and I was offered a chance to stay to which I accepted.

And what a fucking night it was...

We had a few, it's true and my uncle gives Nick (his partner), who so happens to be in the same state as a typical bus shelter dweller, the keys to his house with one request; put the keys in the lock box. Me and my uncle stay down the pub for a few more then head back at 1:00 in the morning and what happened? Keys weren't in the lock box. My uncle bangs on the door for a good half an hour then we give up and back to the pub we go after that, we go back (again). Same thing happens so he knocks on next doors door goes through into the house and climbs onto the roof, attempts to climb through the bathroom window (which so happens to be extremely tiny). His neighbour (some old twat with crutches), rudely lets me in so I am stood in their garden pissed as a fart and what do I see? My uncle half way in (or out) of the window to the bathroom, wriggles a bit and finally falls in and proceeds to let me in. In the house now and Barry tells me he found the keys, he goes upstairs and all I hear is "I told you to put those BLOODY keys in the lock box!"

To summarise; put your BLOODY keys somewhere safe, don't end up giving them to a friend and/or family member when they're in a state like that. As funny as it was, I am just glad my uncle's partner got home safe.

  19. Here's a video showing peoples' reactions to the Doom ***4*** reveal at Quakecon that was posted today:

I thought it was interesting and I have some thoughts about it.

First of all, what's the current state of development of the new Doom game? It's hard to tell of course, but all signs so far have pointed to it being stuck in development hell: in the past few months we've seen Carmack's departure from the company along with several negative comments about the company on Glassdoor.com that went viral. Here's another article from last year with some more info.

Recently we've seen what on the face of it looks like more positive news: the teaser trailer, the news that Wolfenstein preorders would get beta access to the new Doom, and now this reveal at Quakecon. But is it just a clever PR strategy to build up hype? "the DOOM beta won’t begin until a later, yet-to-be announced date" says the Wolfenstein: New Order website, and the teaser video only showed what amounted to a few model close-ups and no actual gameplay.

This reveal is the first time that id have shown actual gameplay to outsiders. But a few things make me skeptical.

First of all, the lack of any public showing reeks of a PR attempt to build social media hype by making people talk about it. If the game is almost ready, why not just show it publicly or better still, let people at Quakecon actually try it out? Why all these silly games with closed theaters and the strict no-photography rules?

Secondly, I can't help noticing how they kept the fans who did see it waiting for several hours before they were allowed to see it. In the video above you can see one of them say how he waited for two and a half hours to see the reveal. If you think about it, this again seems like a clever marketing tactic to get lots of positive "reviews": the only people who have seen the reveal are the biggest Doom fans, the ones eagerly anticipating this game who were dedicated enough to hang around long enough to see it. And they got exactly what they wanted: a crowd of people all too eager to tell the waiting journalists how awesome the new Doom game looks.

The PR story that Id seem desperate to play up is that Doom is almost done, and its release is only just around the corner. But I don't think those beta testers will be seeing this for at least another year, probably at least a year and a half - and maybe even longer. We're even seeing admissions to this effect - that the whole thing was a PR stunt to try to restore some "confidence" in the game's development.

On the positive side we do at least have some details about what the game might be like when it's done. One thing that seems abundantly clear is that the gameplay is very similar to Brutal Doom: we've heard talk of spines being ripped out, hand-to-hand combat and intentionally excessive gore. One tweet I saw described it as "Brutal Doom in HD".

Brutal Doom is controversial among classic Doom fans; personally I'm on the fence about it. Classic Doom to me was always a spooky and atmospheric experience rather than a horror/gorefest, though certainly there are aspects of both in the game. Games like Serious Sam and Painkiller have been called spiritual successors to classic games like Doom, but personally I just found them tedious.

That said, it wouldn't be very interesting if they were just doing Doom 3 again, with slightly improved graphics, so maybe this is a good thing. Things that aren't changing are usually dead, and perhaps what FPSes need more than anything is something different, more light hearted and fun rather than just another straight-laced military combat simulator. God knows we have enough of those on the market already. I just hope all those "finishing moves" don't become repetitive and tired after five minutes of gameplay.

EDIT: Corrected a couple of errors and added a couple of details I found in this thread.

Wow. People walked out of there pumped! I didn't catch any mentions of weapons other than the chainsaw and they seemed impressed by it. Gooood. I wonder how long the gameplay footage was.

  20. Told my close friends here this already, but why not vent it further.

So, today I was assaulted in my own home, in my own room, by my mother's drug addict "partner" (I use that term very loosely, there is no love, obviously) and were it not for my mother's intervention, I could have been killed.

I'm pretty lucky to (not only be alive) only have some minor bruises and grazes by the time she forced him to get off me, as well have a computer that SOMEHOW evaded total destruction despite being on my lap when he grabbed me and tried to choke me by forcing liquid soap down my throat (yeah, wtf?). Its entirely unscathed aside from a bloodstain on the lid from my finger that was cut from stray glass when I furiously smashed my desk lamp into his head repeatedly to stop the choke thing.

This is his sixth assault on either me or my brother (Ive been attacked five times, because im the smaller weaker nerd brother, my brother is large. He only got attacked when he was recovering from knee surgery, coward)

The saddest thing is that its a typical domestic abuse cycle; the type that cannot be easily left. He is the kind of slippery snake that dodges all charges, weaves his way through any and all loopholes and generally cant be dealt with legally without some huge carefully laid out plan.

My stepmother had two people like this guy in her life; one during her teenage years, and one that was her best friend's partner. Her best friend was murdered in a similar situation to mine. So I know how much worse things can get and moves not to do at all cost.

I know you guys cant really help with it (and would probably force his hand if someone did attempt to, he's deathly afraid of the cops actually busting him for real) but still, posting because it makes me feel a little better.

HEY OBSIDIAN, I should sneakily move in with you. We can move to Mt. Doom and take over the words Dooming from there! No? Worth a shot.

This individual should be held solely responsible for his own actions. He is not a child. She does need to get away from him.

Exactly. Ragnor, your Mother has some serious issues, too. They (Mom & boyfriend)enable each other in an abusive cycle. Self-esteem is low or she wouldn't be with someone that acts out like that. As unhealthy as it may be, she is getting a perceived need from this relationship. Have you talked to her about getting help from a mental health professional?

What about you? Were you raised in this type of environment? Should you seek help before it manifests? Do you have anger, self-esteem, victim issues?

  25. My rabbit died.
Now I always feel something is missing when I enter my room, it's like dead and dread now.
It died this morning at 6:00 AM, it wasn't very active the past month and now he's finally out of his misery, he has cancer infections twice, but my family couldn't afford for the second operation so they just left him like this.
He had poop stuck in him that he could get out because of the cancer bubble. When he died, his body started leaking crap from not the place it needs, he shat all around with soaky crap when he died. He started jumping in pain, and he died in the middle of a jump, and just bumped onto the floor, I literally saw it all hapening, it was terrific.
First time I saw something dying.

We never let her go out into the yard so we didn't worry about injections for infections. We wiped the infections from our shoes upon entering the house. I'd hose the yard down every now and then, too. It had a good thick grass that felt like carpeting. IIRC, I had deduced that it was Zoysia. It was a good yard. I loved that yard.
