  1. Hey Doomworld it's been a while I know.

I got back into the computer building game for a little while but decided to go ahead and just buy what I had before I let myself lose motivation and put it on the back burner again. I know this made for some probably poor choices but whatever. It's built.

    PCPartPicker part list

Storage: Crucial M4 256GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 680 2GB Video Card
Wireless Network Adapter: Rosewill RNX-N180UBE 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Wi-Fi Adapter
Case: NZXT Phantom (Black) ATX Full Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair Professional 750W 80 PLUS Silver Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply

    Not listed:
Keyboard: Filco Majestouch-2 Cherry Brown keyboard

    What I already had:
Dell U2312HM for the really low input lag
I've got a G400 with a MX518 shell put onto it (the G400 surface slips out of my hand).

    Pics:
    - I got the DirectCU II version of the 680. It takes up three expansion slots in the back.
    - No one told me the case was this big! Next to a slim Xbox 360 for comparison.
    - Overall view

The cherry brown keyboard is awesome but I'm not liking the tactile bump as much as I thought I would. It makes typing great but I just feel that double taps are kind of annoying with it. Might try a red at some point.

I've still got stock cooler on the 3570K. I'm a terrible person I know. I'll overclock in the future but didn't want to worry about it right then. This guy at work is trying to convince me to get a Corsair closed loop water cooler. I'm considering buying a Corsair H100i. What do you guys think?

Go ahead and joke on my choice of Windows 8. It's not terrible after getting used to and with the SSD the system boots up in 5 seconds flat.

I know my cables are a mess, but what's pictured is cleaned up from the even worse mess it was before. If I put the 24 pin bundle and the one that goes to the CPU through the holes, I can't get the back panel back on. Any ideas?

I just know this thing better support the damn shaders GZDoom needs to do the lighting right.

Everything collects dust and dirt, but I've yet to see a black keyboard that develops that yellow-y nicotine stain colour after years of use. You can always clean up a black keyboard to make it look brand new again, unless you've spilt paint all over it or something.

      AHAHAHA LOSER

But seriously, fix the start menu so it doesn't look like a baby's toy, and Win8 is basically Win7 with a few extra bells and whistles, right? I haven't heard many vehement complaints about stability issues and such.

Really, I saw one, the keys were brown on the sides. I don't feel like taking photos just for this (it's not my keyboard).

I like the start screen, it's like a dedicated desktop for launching apps. Too bad you can't pin arbitrary files to it unless you install a utility (which I've never tried).

As always, black keyboard :| When will this blackness trend end? They become every bit as dirty (brown) as beige keyboards. I'm glad I still have a 9-year old beige one.

I like black. I don't see beige keyboard anymore.

I've mostly gotten used to all that stuff. The new start screen isn't too horrible, but I don't use it much. There's a menu that comes up when you put your mouse in the bottom left corner of the screen and right click that takes care of most of my needs

Oh yeah i forgot, as far as performance goes, I can't really talk to Windows 8 performance because my first time using it is also on my new SSD so I don't know whether the snappy performance is 8 or the drive though I'm pretty sure it's both, but I don't know in what proportions. Like I said it starts up in 5 seconds or less and if you click around in your file system the transitions are instant. Games and stuff load up immediately. Take that as you will.
