Doom 3 playing style

I've seen people talk about whether Doom could be like the first, where it's a big slaughterfest, or whether it could be more Half Life-like, where you're creeping through trying to survive, but what if it was both? What if you're walking along when you receive a message to haul ass back to your dropship in five minutes across the entire length of the map(should such a scenario be the case) when you see a massive wave of demons charging after you, and you have to run through small corridors and pathways dimly lit wondering if you should look behind you to the chasing horror, wondering if they're catching up? Or even, for instance, you're sent in to exterminate whatever just overran an outpost, but the power is out in most of the compound, and you could be creeping through the darkness only steps away from some hellish freak, and the whole place could be crawling with demons. I think id could make the game dark, scary, suspenseful, and a mass ass-kicking game, too.

I hope and pray that Doom3'll be like its predecessors-fast, fun, and tense, and scary.

Duh, you just described the Holy Grail of FPSs. All of them aim to those specific points.

I dont want to see another goddamn HL remake.

When i say this, i am talking about gameplay - HL is too much of a simulator to be a game as far as im conserned. If some lousy trooper guy can put about 5 bullets in you dead... then it is too real, and cannot be any fun.

On the other hand - Things can't be too weak either, Quake2 made a horrbile mess with this one - even the enemie's railguns only did 50 damage to you (whereas yours did 150 and you both used the same ammo [it only did 100 in DM but it should did even less there]). I mean, the soldiers that had machineguns must ahve been shooting needles or something because they only did aobut 2 damage per shot (and your machinegun used the same ammo as theirs, yet yours does 8 damage?)... THe player's weapons and the enemie's weapons should both be just as powerful as one another... and the enemy shouldn't be able to hit you every freaking time they shoot at you either.

Basicially I want another doom - Your enemies aren't lethal to you unless they are some kind of big MF that is supposed to be lethal. Shooting point blank with your Rocket Launcher should kill you and whatever toy tried to kill (unlike Q2).

With all of this being taken into consideration, since there will be less enemies, the enemies will have to be smarter... But I still want at least half as many enemies as doom threw at you, I dont care aobut the loss in quality of models... (heh, just reduce the polycount waay down on areas that you wont see very often, and leave the polycount high on areas like the face and smoother areas like sohulders or arms... also, dont render any polygons that are obscured by other polygons - it's a waste).
