Palettes

Recommended Posts

Doom and Heretic use different palettes, and I'm trying to incorporate Heretic weapons in Doom (zdoom). Is there an easy way to convert graphics from Heretic to work right in doom?

use paint shop pro (or another gfx program that's not mspaint) and save the doom palette via opening an img that uses it, then load up the heretic image and load the palette

But you will still lose colours (particularly shades of yellow, as Heretic has more shades of yellow in the palette than DooM has) causing some weapons not to look right.

DeePsea can copy sprites from one wad into another WAD. You can then use DeePsea's ability to change the palette of the graphics in a WAD from any of the games DeePsea supports to any of the same games. (ie all the Doom engined games.)

Because this is all done by moving lumps around in WADs rather than exporting graphics and reimporting, you don't have to worry about getting graphic offsets and so on correct when you re import them - ie the graphics keep their offsets.

The comment about colours still applies, however. The palettes in the different games are different so you will get slight changes in appearance when changing game palettes - by any method.

after you export any non-Doom image, I suggest you to get the windows version of The Gimp (http://www.gimp.org)

load that image under The Gimp and change its mode from Indexed color to full color
