Possible to map for GBA Doom (II)?

Recommended Posts

I take my Gameboy Micro everywhere with me and I enjoy playing the Doom ports.

I would love to be able to play or create custom maps for either Doom or Doom II.

Is it remotely possible to create maps and inject them into a GBA ROM?

I know that both games use different engines so maybe there's some way to get one or the other 'hackable'?

From what I know, you can't ADD anything to a GBA ROM, but you can modify existing material. In theory, you might be able to replace the maps, but I am not sure if that is even possible. One guy found a way to change the blood color on the original DOOM GBA, and that's the only know mod for the two games I have heard of. If there is a way, I'd be gald to help you, as I have a copy of DOOM II GBA.

Doom II GBA uses the Southpaw engine, and Doom I GBA uses the Jaguar port as a base, so the limitations are similar to Doom version 1.2.

You can extract the wad from the ROM, but I don't know to modify it, but it is possible.

Thanks for replying guys. I've Googled around but can't find any living links (so far!).

I'll keep trying though. I've got a bee in my bonnet about getting some maps onto my GBA now.
