the prefabs, (the moth ones) worked in doombuilder 1 but they wont open when i try to instert them in doom builder 2. why no? same with all other prefabs

Doom Builder 2 is a complete rewrite of DB1. None of the code is the same, so I'm pretty sure it's a compatability issue.

I'm no computer genius though, so don't take this as complete truth, it just makes sense to me.

Create maps with DB1 that each contain a single prefab. Then you can open these maps with DB2 and turn them into prefabs in DB2's format I guess.

I actually never used DB prefabs.
