Recommended Midi Notation program

I really need a notation program that is good for making doom music. I tried to make a song on Finale notepad, and it sounded way more off than I wanted it to be. Mainly it's the way the instruments sound on that program. If you know of a free notation program that's good for making grittier and more metal-like please let me know.
