New PSX Doom music tracks up:

Recommended Posts

I have to disagree with Elbryan as I simply looked at the wave sign. It is impossible for the wave sign to be identical and yet have different sounds. I'm positive you did over-shoot the loopback on track 12, because I recorded for 10 minutes to be sure. I will create a demo mp3 of how it sounds on the loop backs and the beginning.

If I am wrong, I will change them. But I'm going to investigate further.

Just checked track 12 and I am 100% correct on the loopback. It happens every 1:35 in the track (YES, IT DOES). I'm about to upload demos that conslusively prove this beyond all doubt.

Okay, now to prove my case. What I did was record 20 seconds of the track at each loopback section, starting with the very first 20 seconds of the song.

Here's the first 20 seconds:

http://www.twingalaxies.com/firebrandx/temp/000demo.zip

Now lets skip to position 1:35 and record 20 more seconds:

http://www.twingalaxies.com/firebrandx/temp/135demo.zip

And 20 more seconds at 3:10 (notice that is another 1:35 added):

http://www.twingalaxies.com/firebrandx/temp/310demo.zip

And another at 4:45 where I ended it (3 x 1:35)

http://www.twingalaxies.com/firebrandx/temp/445demo.zip

And one more at 6:20 (4 x 1:35):

http://www.twingalaxies.com/firebrandx/temp/620demo.zip

Pull all the demos out a play them one after another... IDENTICAL! The only difference between the loopback demos and the first 20 seconds is the 2-second bleed-in from the previous loop. Case closed.

Do I need to do this on track 11 as well?

I wonder where track 12 ends on the Saturn version. I think the order of the songs is mixed too, so my track12 maybe different from the PSX version.

Edit: Okay i dug out my disc and searched for that track 12 that FirebrandX posted and i can't find it! I'm positive some of the songs are the same, but does the PSX version has cool music for the intermission/title screen? The saturn version has very sweet instrumentation on those tracks that can't be streamed like the psx music. Maybe the two are different. Maybe Elbryan knows? At any rate the Saturn version soundtrack is excellent.

Edit2: Duh, i checked Elbryan's site and confirmed the two versions share some of the same tracks, but there are differences. that's cool. But i still not sure what kinda title or endmap music psx version has.

The PSX uses CD audio for the titles and intermissions, which you can pull directly off the disc. I'm betting the Saturn uses the same ones.

All of the PSX tracks have definite ends. Some Doom 64 tracks, however, like Map03, don't have ends, and required editing. I regretted having to do this, but some Doom 64 tracks went on for 45 minutes without stopping and starting exactly at the beginning.

Just listened to track 12 (Deimos Lab) right now, and I don't hear looping at 1:35... I think you'd better listen to yours again. And listening to track 11, and it doesn't repeat FOR SURE until the 5:38 mark, where there's a distinct pause (at least a second) and then you hear the start of the track.

Okay, as you've seen in my posts above, I have proven the loopback points on track 12. I just went back and listened to track 11 and it also repeats forever WITHOUT pausing, just like track 12. MOST of the PSX tracks do have a pause before looping, but tracks 11 and 12 do NOT.

I just checked track 11 and I'm 100% correct on that one too. The loopback begins at 1:19.3 (assuming you edit out beginning silence). 1:19.3 x 3 = 3:57.9, which is exactly where my mp3 ends.

To futher prove my point, here's a 15-second section starting at the 5:30 mark, which covers the 5:38 spot where Elbryan claims there is a 1-second pause. You will notice there is no pause at all. The music keeps playing right on through:

http://www.twingalaxies.com/firebrandx/temp/530demo.zip

Starts at 5:30 and ends at 5:45.

Tacks 13 and 16 are now up:

cycled out
cycled out

Another minor error by Elbryan in that he ends his track 13 too early by 11 seconds. Trust me, I've triple-checked the wave signature on this to be absolutely sure. The exact loopback starts at just past 5:19.

Cool. I hope the issue over tracks 11 and 12 are resolved for you. I studied each of the wave signs on them for several hours and could find absolutely no deviation from the loop-points I marked. The wave patterns matched up identical when I overlayed them. I even listened to each track over and over to be sure.

Moving on to the next 2 tracks. I'll have them up in an hour or so.

Tracks 17 and 18:

cycled out
cycled out

Track notes:

17: Track time is 6:23. Elb missed the last 10 seconds (confirmed).

18: Track time is 5:56. This is two complete loops. Loop starts at late 2:58. I spent an extra 30 minutes confirming this since Elb's ends at 4:15. (triple stamped, anti-quitzies, no erasies).

Thanks for taking all the extra time just to check the tracks for us.

Let's call a truce and agree to disagree. :) Don't want to fight with a fellow console Doom lover. :P

Ok, so you were right about level 11, I spent the night listening to the PSX music while bleaching the floors at work. Fun. :P

When I have time, I'll re-rip the tracks. Could've sworn I had the complete ones. It was so long ago.

Off to bed again.

I think you should just use FireBrand's versions instead of making your own again. They seem pretty good to me. I could even put them together in a giant WAD file for you if you want. I noticed that the PSX Wad files you currently have on your site contain Mp3s that are only 32 kbps. Even though the file size would be big, I am going to compile a PSX Wad file that contains FireBrand's 160 kbps files :)
Tell me if you want me to send it to you when I compile it...

But I'm not wrong. All I ask is that you record a section you think differs from my findings and post it to show my mistake. I'm using a program to find the loop-points and then I re-check it with my ears over and over again to be sure. The program has never been wrong every time I double-check it. The wave pattern works exactly like a fingerprint does. There's no disagreeing where one line of the print meets the other.

For example, find any spot on track 12 that differs from the first 1:35 and post it. The wave pattern replays exactly the same after the 1:35 mark and does this forever. Same thing for the 2:58 mark on track 18. I'm not just talking out of my ass on this. I'm very obsessive-compulsive about microscopic details like this, and I want to be sure more than anybody else about my work. In fact, I'm willing to bet my life that my track marks are spot-on thus far. But don't take my word for it. Feel free to confirm it yourself. Again, if you find any mistake, post the audio section in mp3 form and give the exact details on where the spot occurs in the track.

Okay, I'm almost done converting the last of the Doom tracks. I just finished track 22 with two exact loops at 4:41 total time. I know this differs from Elby's 4:58 for this track, so I'm posting the image below to explain:

This is a small window displaying the wave pattern of track 22. You can easily spot how the pattern repeats right at the 2:20 mark. To make absolutely sure, I can zoom in to any microscopic section of the track to compare every tiny curve of the wave sign. The program I use allows me to zoom in to 1 MILLIONTH of a second. This detail is so tiny, the human ear cannot detect it. Even with this, I still go back and listen manually to make sure for myself.

So what I did for this track is find the second loop spot at the 4:40 mark and add a fade-out. Viola! Two perfect playthroughs of the song with a fade-out at the exact 2nd loop spot.

Here's the rest of the level tracks for PSX Doom:

http://www.twingalaxies.com/firebrandx/temp/psxdoom20.zip
http://www.twingalaxies.com/firebrandx/temp/psxdoom21.zip
http://www.twingalaxies.com/firebrandx/temp/psxdoom22.zip
http://www.twingalaxies.com/firebrandx/temp/psxdoom24.zip

Track 24 was a bit of an enigma in that I was forced to wait several seconds past the loopback due to bleed-over. This is the only track where I had to do this to keep integrity of the first loop.

Now I must rip the CD audio tracks of the opening title, credits, intermissions, and "Club Doom". These will be up this afternoon.

That about wraps it up for PSX Doom. I've decided not to do all the Castlevania tracks. Those can be ripped directly using Psound and then resampling them to 44100Hz, so I leave that for people to do on their own time.

great! Thanks for uploading all of those tracks for us :) I think it took 3 days. I am currently compiling them into a WAD file so I can use them in Jdoom. I am actually going to start up my old Playstation Doom and properly name all the music files you sent me so that they correspond with the same levels. Tell me if you want me to send you the WAD file when I'm done.

OMFG!!! I can't belive what just happened to me... After 4 days of work downloading those Mp3s you put up, and I got them all set to the proper levels in the game and I compiled them into a WAD file and everything.... Then I delete the file by accident and I don't have a backup copy anywhere!!! To make things worse, I deleted the tracks off my hard drive!! I don't have anything!

:( :( :( :( :( :(

Do you have ANY sort of instant messanger that you could send me all the tracks through again zipped up in a giant file or anything? I don't need the title music and stuff because I can just take that directly off the playstation CD myself. But the rest of it is all gone...

grrrrrr....

edit: I just downloaded tracks 20-24 since they are still up, but the rest are still gone...

EDIT2: PHEW!!! nevermind, I found a backup copy of the WAD file... I nearly scared myself half to death there... lol

Hey no problem. I don't mind putting them back up just in case.

You don't have to anymore, I found a backup copy of the WAD file I made "hiding" in another folder :)
Thanks for the offer anyways though! It was nice of you to upload them for us in the first place.

All the links are dead now, could you put the songs into one huge zip file and put them up again or something?! I only have tracks 5 and 6 because I didn't check the tread often enough :( Cheers if you can put them up.
