As deductive logic will teach you, when someone "kills himself by jumping into a river", it usually means he deliberately jumped in and came out with two lungs full of cold, polluted water. As in, suicide.

So he drowned himself purposely. You just said "jumped in" as if that would do it.

Also, if you fall far enough, and land flat on your stomach, water is hard as concrete....
