The Generations Arena mod actually wasn't half bad. I expected Doomguy to suck... But they pretty much got the speed and rocket shit down, the single barrel shotgun looked wank though..

In terms of what makes a DM level great, I really don't think the first level of Doom II qualifies. It was basically 3 rooms connected by one hall, with an outdoor area tacked on at the end.

Either is this supposed to apply to Q3 levels only, OR the reviewer is an idiot =]

The single barreled shotgun in Doom remains my favorite single-barrel shotgun to this very day. The feel of it is perfect and the sound is great (but the sound can always get better)
Quake1 - now THERE was a shotgun that sounded like shit!

I played a Quake 2 version of some of the old Doom levels. It was okay, but the textures looked a little superficial and the ending sucked (just an ugly ass level with a Makron).
