id Tech 5, Still Alive!

I'm sure most people who say that said the same about XP when it was released. I dare say that in two years, most of us will be using Vista and looking back on XP in the same way we do Win95 today.

I certainly won't install Vista on my current computer - and I still see some life left in it.

I was under the influence that DX is the ruitines for D3D, and isn't really necessary for OpenGL. And I was told somewhere that DX9 only were used for something regarding the sound in Doom3.

But I'm no programmer.

Or Windows at all. Id Software wouldn't do that, though; at least not with Carmack still in charge of the engine. Name one id game since Doom that hasn't had a linux release.

You were told wrong, probably by some ignorant fanboy. Doom3 can work on DirectX 6.1 with sound.
