Support for transparency map for sprites?

I figured that if tranmaps can be used on middle textures to achieve arbitrary effects different than translucency or additive blending, why not give support for them on sprites as well? This could produce some strange spectres for example.

essel is also waiting on this ;) There really isn't any technological reason it can't be done. The one difficulty is intelligently changing the tranmaps between PU_CACHE and PU_STATIC status when done with them. At least, I think that's done for tranmaps o_O
