Hosts file

Does anyone have any experience mucking around with the Windows Hosts file? Can anyone give me advice on getting this puppy to work properly?

I think my wireless provider's inability to access an IP directory service is the reason the accursed thing doesn't work.

the format is

ip hostname hostname hostname hostname

for example

127.0.0.1 ads.doubleclick.net mediamgr.ugo.com goatse.cx

New question: If there are multiple sites with different prefixes on the same server with the same IP, is there a shortcut so that one entry will get to all those sites? For example, River City High is on rivercityhigh.keenspace.com, and Sexy Losers is **********.keenspace.com, and I know they're at the same IP.

You can't really do that. The closest you can come is:

ip        rivercityhigh.keenspace.com sexylosers.keenspace.com
