Captain Red

Censorship = wired

Recommended Posts

I was recently messing around with duke nukem 64, and one thing that caught my attention was what they had decided to cut from the version. In the PC version, on the second level, called “the red light district” there’s a strip joint and an adult bookstore. However, on the Nintendo 64 version, the second level name has been changed to “gun crazy”, the strip joint is now a duke burger, but what I find really interesting is that they replaced the adult bookstore with a gun shop!!!

That’s right kiddies, the adult bookstore was wrong, but a guns are OK. While this is mostly due to Nintendo’s censorship policy (for example, on the next level, the chapel has been removed as Nintendo’s policy also disallows and reference to any real world religions or something like that), it’s a funny world that says that we’d rather our kids be exposed to violence instead of sex.

Now I do see a place for censorship, and I full admit that there are things in this world that we probably should hide from the kiddies. I don’t intend to turn this thread into a debate about weather or not censorship should be enforced, but instead I ask you, have you seen any unbalanced examples of censorship like the one I just mentioned? I’d like to here about them.

Conker 64 has the same rating (M) and they basically let all of what you mentioned go through uncensored in that game.

Guns are okay. I'd rather have my kid in a gun store than a porno shop.

Actually, I came up with a conspiracy theory that the powers that be are using Censorship to encouraging violence and hiding sex as a from of population control! Think about it...

But there's SO much blatant sex and sex related things going on - have you watched TV lately? Guns, Sex, Drugs, and Profanity, welcome to this world.

Heh, lets say the world's population doubles every 20 years, now, in 60 years, just imagine how many people there will be. hundred of billions. :D

Now our hand-held friends also known as "guns" help keep that number...lets say... "in moderation". :P

Sex >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Violence

But violent sex is kinda kinky if you ask me.

Some of the altered levels for Duke 64 really sucked. On the other hand some were an improvement.

Like the last stage, is more convincing as a stadium in Duke 64 than a football field and some sloped bleachers in the PC version.

It used to be that sex related stuff was rarely released on console versions (in N.America at least), while extreme violence was only followed by a warning.

Well in Doom for gba (not doom 2) the blood is green. But tons of other games have blood in them ( Wolfenstein was released a bit before doom and it had blood in it). I think the whole green blood stuff is stupid.

On the same token though, what does it matter either way? Sure it's pointless to change the color of the blood. But at the same time it's still blood. So is it really worth complaining about.
Im not directing this at you specifically. It's just a general statement.

Here in Europe, it's pretty normal to see plenty of nipples in commercials or in prime time television shows. God bless the Old World.

yea i know, man i miss those. some of them where classic. but hey nintendo sucks ass because of there ass-o-rific standards. I mean the game cube is alright but there are so few games for it and most of them are kiddie games, nothing wrong with that. except for the fact i like big boy games too. i will have to try 'bad fur day' for the hell of it, sounds like a game that is a blast to play.

What about the green blood in doom? even funnier is the green slabs of meat replaceing dead bodies.
