No love for Rush?

Although I'll step even further out and say that 1980-1991 produced their best works. Signals is my favorite record of all time.

Dare I say, Neil Peart is an incredibly overrated drummer? I dare. He's painfully pre-rehearsed, which is most evident in the Buddy Rich tribute. Boring, stiff, not much better than what you'd see at a high-school talent show. Compare to the man himself or Aaron Spears. Neil doesn't have anywhere near the fluidity of Buddy or the musicality of Aaron (or, gospel drummers for that matter). I never saw what the big deal was with Peart. Cowbells?

Don't get me started on death metal drum Olympics..

I'll have to agree with you on that. I've never quite understood just what the big fuzz about Peart as well as Mike Pornoy of Dream Theater was about. They're both great drummers, but I've always liked drummers that have a simpler, more musical approach to drumming as opposed to pure technical skill. Gavin Harrison is one of my top drummers for that reason.

Well it's understandable you'd detest Pink Floyd from hearing The Wall day in and day out, considering it's a terrible (or at best, terribly boring) album, and marked the sharp decline in the musical quality of Pink Floyd's output since.

i agree. The Wall is waters' ultimate wankfest. it's supposed to be 'conceptual', but it doesn't work, because most of the album is just filler. on the other hand, the most famous highlight, Another Brick in the Wall pt.2, is being given too much attention. pt.1 is imo better for setting a mood and Comfortably Numb is by far the greatest track of the album, almost to the point of redeeming the mediocre rest.

just so you know where i'm coming from- my favourites are Wish You Were Here (much, much better in both the music and concept department) and Meddle (there's no words to describe the awesomeness of Echoes)

Stuff about Marilyn Manson

I will admit, I am a fan of his early work for the most part (Portrait of an An American Family, Smells Like Children and Antichrist Superstar) mainly because Trent Reznor (NIN) produced it and gave a pretty good sound IMO. His other work is o.k., but I just can't get into it too much.

I do credit you on hating the "disney pop" and emo rock that seems to be flooding radio's here in the U.S. all too much.

What I'm amused by is how saying something as simple as "I like Rush" is met with "Neil Peart is over-rated!"

I don't remember saying anything about drumming. Certainly we must all be objective fans of music, right?

Lots of altie rockers here but not too many metalheads here (unless they speak up).

If you say you like Rush, or even mention Rush, somebody is guaranteed to pop in and either comment about how Neil Peart is a godly drummer that is unmatched in the realm of rock music, or some angry drum nerd will comment on how he's highly overrated. Their drummer gets more attention than the rest of the band does, which is usually pretty uncommon.

I have to say though, Alex Lifeson is one of my favorite guitarists, even though I'm not the biggest Rush fan (have to be in a certain mood to listen to Rush). It's kinda funny, because one of my favorite Lifeson guitar solos isn't even on a Rush song.

Are you crazy? Most Doom fans are metalheads, that is a given!

I love pretty much everything from blues to metal and beyond, but I also enjoy things like techno or classic music now and then.

In no order:

Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
U.D.O (especially their newer stuff)
Halford
Fight
Dio (and all the old stuff he made with Rainbow and Elf)
Zakk Wylde
Gov Mule
Sodom
Iced Earth and Primal Fear are pretty good too, but I hate it when their melodies (mostly in the chorus) get too cheesy and happy, but I think that`s common in Power Metal \:

After looking at my list I feel like such a stereotypical metalposer...

Yes, Mr Chris suffers from some sort of brain dysfunction that causes him to think that anything with clean vocals or melody can't be classed as "proper" metal. Crazy sounds about right.

Too much effort to list them all. I don't think any of you care what i listen to anyway.

I skimmed through these lists to see if anyone listens to what I listen to and the number is very few. I don't really have much music compatibility with other doomers.

It isn't as mainstream as it was a few years ago, but it is still around though, much to my dismay.

Me neither, while I do like a bit of metal I'm mostly a dance-type person. I wonder if I'm the only drum'n'bass head at DW... (Pendulum-loving metalheads aside)

Actually, you are wrong on that. I have a fair amount of artists that have clean vocalization.

Yes it does, but I don't think it's as prominent as it was earlier this decade. I believe the metalcore and deathcore fads have taken over their popularity right now, as they have since 2005.

I tend to listen to quite a bit of darkstep and techstep on youtube, I have a couple of mixes on my computer. Pendulum piss me off. There are so many people who think they're DnB experts just because they listen to Pendulum and newer SubFocus. Twats. Basically I'm a metalhead who loves a bit of REAL DNB from time to time haha. Went warehouse project this month to go see Noisia, DJ Hype and some others. Insane night.

One of my friends is a massive DnBhead though, he's awesome.
