DooM_RO Posted September 30, 2011 killer2 said:Gameplay looks really fun. Graphics are good, but not great (Hard Reset has much better graphics, and while this doesn't matter that much,ID has pretty much always had the best graphics games at release). The explosions look kinda lame. Driving looks fun, and the landscape is nice. The sniper rifle looks a bit cartoony, unlike the other weapons. Overall,I have high hopes that this game will bring a good deal of very fun gameplay, just like Hard Reset did. PS:Will it only have regenerative health? I know there was a debate about this on some other thread, but there wasn't a conclusive answer. You can use food or create bandages from rags and antiseptic to regain health. The regenerating health system is an UPGRADE.In conclusion you don't have to use regenerating health if you don't want to.This is a very good decision because it will make everyone happy. You can find proof of this at around 6:30 http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/rage-gameplay-footage-from-e3?size=hd 0 Share this post Link to post

Wasn't a bad game, but for id, I wasn't impressed. I was kind of expecting Quake 2. As in, more Quake. Not random space marines pissing around in orange moon bases and fighting off guys with metal legs. Plus when it came out, I had just gotten Goldeneye for N64. 0 Share this post Link to post

So basically you meant "the only good game id made that I liked was quake". If you don't like cyborg enemies and sci-fi settings that's your problem, not the game's. 0 Share this post Link to post

I was being sarcastic and pointing out the crappy logic many Doomworld members like to spew about Doom 3 being "bad".Since I know your referring this partly to me I'll bite. It's not so much that I wanted Doom 3 to be Doom 2 with 2004 graphics as much as it is that I just don't enjoy playing a linear and dull one way unimaginative corridor shooter that has no contrast in texturing, that gets it's "atmosphere" from monsters jumping out from dark rooms where you can't see shit, with repetitive gameplay and a theme that gets boring after the first 20 minutes. There really are just so many monotone flat corridors and so many rooms that all look the same that I can run through before I get bored. If this really is evolution in level design, then whatever it is that your seeing, I am not. 0 Share this post Link to post

Pretty much yeah. I remember one of their chief complaints about Brink, and probably one of the ones that pissed me off the most, was that you couldn't spam grenades and that they had a small kill radius (And they neglected to mention that the grenades also have a decent sized knock down radius though, which is their primary purpose). 0 Share this post Link to post

killer2 Posted October 1, 2011 Mogul said:*There're. Fixed that for you. Err,no. That's not how you say it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mogul Posted October 1, 2011 "There is lots" is incorrect. The only time that sort of occurrence works is when you're talking about a plural, proper noun. Darksiders is a good game. Physics is an interesting field of study. "There's lots/there is lots" doesn't work the same way. A lot is a measurement of weight, and "lots" would describe a pluralized "lot." So it follows the rules the same way any other plural word would. And surely you're not challenging the validity of "there're," are you? 0 Share this post Link to post
killer2 Posted October 1, 2011 I have not seen this "there're" form anywhere, and I've read quite a lot of English. Even DW's spelling corrector says it's wrong! 0 Share this post Link to post
Blastfrog Posted October 1, 2011 killer2 said:I have not seen this "there're" form anywhere, and I've read quite a lot of English. Even DW's spelling corrector says it's wrong! That would be your browser underlining incorrect words in red, not the forum software. And those aren't always accurate. (for some reason Firefox considers "teleport" as incorrectly spelled) And "there're" is obviously a compound of "there are", so it's not necessarily incorrect, just uncommon. -------------------------------- Anyway, I'm not going to form a concrete opinion on it until I play it, but am I the only one around here that's hopeful that it will actually turn out to be a decent game? Seriously, from the previews, and how they've talked about the gameplay in depth, signs are pointing to this being a well-made, creative game. They're returning to focusing on creating fun experiences for the player, and not as much on the engine. It's true that idTech5 is a large part, but it's not the primary focus of the game itself. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mogul Posted October 1, 2011 It's an informal contraction, something that exists in plenty of literature. It's no-less valid a contraction as any other contraction that follows the rules. Firefox's spell-checker frequently fucks up very common spellings of words, so I wouldn't put much stock in a website's spell-checker. Not that Word is the final say in matters of grammar (at all) but it doesn't have a problem with "there're." 0 Share this post Link to post
Scripten Posted October 1, 2011 Anyway, I'm not going to form a concrete opinion on it until I play it, but am I the only one around here that's hopeful that it will actually turn out to be a decent game? Nope. I'm looking forward to the game as well. Not quite following it as much as I am other games, but it's interesting, and I'm impressed by what I've seen so far. On another note, what's with all the negativity toward the animation? It's significantly more fluid and life-like than most games. Really, as long as people actually look at you when they're talking, it seems like it'll be pretty impressive. (Seriously, why can't game devs do this any more? It can't be all that hard, and it totally breaks immersion when the characters don't bother looking in your general direction when they speak.) 0 Share this post Link to post
Mogul Posted October 1, 2011 I pre-ordered Rage which is something I almost never do. Very much looking forward to it. I have become skeptical though, as the more I learn about the game once touted to feature "RPG progression," the more I learn that it looks like it's pretty much going to be any other id game (minus the driving). That's disappointing, but I think most people here will agree that a "standard" shooter will be fine, coming from id. re: art direction This game does not rip off Borderlands' art direction. Period. This game has been in the works for roughly six years, and has been publicly shown over the last three or four years. Borderlands, from conception to shipping, isn't even that old. And let's be real -- Borderlands' art direction (as far as characters, architecture, general world vibe, etc) isn't even close to original. Both Rage and Borderlands (and Fallout, for that matter) share common visual influences, namely Mobius (Heavy Metal) and Mad Max, though I am sure there are others. I guess my point there is that it's moot to say one ripped off the other. If you really want to give credit where it's due, look up Mad Max, et al. Of course, even Mad Max's creator would cite prominent, direct influences, I am sure. 0 Share this post Link to post

No, you are not the only one who hopes it will be a decent game and yes, the previews do show that the game is well made. But we shall see how it is once it comes out. TheEndOfUs Posted October 2, 2011 From what I`ve read by people who`ve played it: Rage is not a revolution, just a "very, very good, polished game". Beautiful, tight & smooth... Im hyped, but not super-enthusiastic. And Oh, the audio is supposedly unbelievable. 0 Share this post Link to post
DooM_RO Posted October 2, 2011 John Carmack said on twitter that he is going to be present at Mesquite, Texas at Gamestop for the midnight release. It would be cool if someone from Texas or even Mesquite could ask some questions on behalf of Doomworld.I would have done this but unfortunately I live on the other side of the world... For instance you could ask what Id software thinks about the criticism regarding Doom 3 and what they have learned from Doom 3 or what Matt Hooper meant when he said that Doom 4 will make doom fans happy. If someone plans to do this we should make a separate thread where we can discuss what to ask. http://twitter.com/#!/ID_AA_Carmack/status/119916499849854976 0 Share this post Link to post
Captain Toenail Posted October 2, 2011 Looks like a fairly solid game to me, don't see any reason not to get it myself. Plus, once Rage is released we will start seeing some Doom4 details. 0 Share this post Link to post
DooM_RO Posted October 2, 2011 So?No one will be present at the midnight event? 0 Share this post Link to post
Xaser Posted October 2, 2011 I dunno. I live nearby but I seriously doubt I'd be able to get a chance to ask anything considering the crowds that are likely to be there. Regarding Rage itself, it's on my backorder-list. I'll grab it when it gets closer to the $20-$30 range. 0 Share this post Link to post
DooM_RO Posted October 2, 2011 ^ Well, for some reason the game isn't very hyped, so perhaps there will be fewer people? Regardless the guys at Id always said that after RAGE ships they will start giving away doom 4 info and think about it, the game is still early in development so our questions could influence how the game is made. For example if we ask whether the game will be less linear, have secrets and alternate routes they MIGHT discuss our questions when they actually make the game. Also people who played RAGE said it's REALLY good and that it is not repetitive and that it's always fresh http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/942657-rage/60487506?page=1 0 Share this post Link to post
Bucket Posted October 2, 2011 Let's just hope the industry is moving away from the cycle of (1) releasing a game that's little more than a pitch to sell the engine and (2) releasing games based on those engines that use general-purpose tools and aren't as optimized as they could be. 0 Share this post Link to post
