The dreaded "S" word!

I can't be the only one here that practices abstinence. Mind you, full celibacy is much more difficult, and inevitably I make the stupid decision to go porn surfing, although I have recently been forcing myself to spend less time doing it, while viewing less explicit material and with less overall frequency. It is a form of suppression, yes, but I find it liberating at the sane time.

There is so much wrong here...

With enough probing, science will likely discover how to turn off the libido.

Or you could listen to your body telling you to go out and fuck, as it was designed for. You're not just a mind, you know.

sexuality as a pastime will be obsolete.

But what would we do in Winter?

I swear there was a thread exactly like this where some guy said he'd get a vasectomy or something like that and then Us3d got all pissed off at him because he had some issues which I won't go into. Then there was another thread even more similar to this one where some guy was arguing that sex was purely for reproduction and nobody should have sex and it was really depressing. Argh, I wish I could find them.

EDIT: I found one of them! And you would never guess who started it!

Really, the only controversial parts of sex are that A), sometimes babies come of it, B) sometimes infections, and C) it can be socially messy. Other than those main points, there isn't a lot to get hot and bothered by.

Heh, appropriate typo. Yes, well, the most important thing is that your choices leave you mentally healthy. I'd say a lot of people would feel better if they abstained from consuming too much porn, or engaging in too much sex. But then, it all depends on one's psych profile. My "too much" is someone else's "just right." Some people engage in more sex than I would ever feel comfortable, and as long as it doesn't chafe (heh) with them, and they take precautions, then there's nothing wrong with that.

I really didn't want to post here but that doesn't sound like me. I typically will spout off for little or no reason but I actually endorsed AndrewB's vasectomy and would gladly support anyone else in that decision.

Oh. Well, at least I know it was AndrewB who started it. I can't remember who got mad at him though. It was something about hormone problems.

Krispy, thanks for pointing out that I'm the forum weirdo. I don't feel awkward at all. Actually, this entire thread has been awkward. I'm a mess.

I'll argue that it seems sex has been evolving/has evolved into something more complex than just procreation. I believe there is a natural reason for the way people behave. Lust inspires people to do certain things (sometimes good and sometimes bad, but so does hunger). For example, you want to have an active sex-life, therefore you strive to make it so via personal success. As social animals, human beings need incentives like sex in order to be motivated to do our part.

Moreover, other than just the gratification from climax, many people (myself included) enjoy the thrill of the hunt. I find that it's equally gratifying to have a good night out bar hopping with a girl you're attracted too. To then find that perfect opportunity to make a move and kiss her, and have it succeed. And then to coast through the rest of the night feeling positive, until you finally seal the deal at their house.

You make it sound so easy.

Same as we always do - community mapping projects.

Is this really necessary? I used to worry about such things but only as a kid. Nowadays I just enjoy the hell out of my hentai manga collection. Reading this stuff and doing the respective "procedures" is like the happiest part of my life lol: nothing but pure pleasure. I think it's awesome that I have these urges.

It's part of a peculiar form of OCD which demands that sexuality not exist within my individual, so systematic elimination of it feels logical. Quasar seems to find this depressing. Why, I ask? I have a girlfriend. We have our intimacies, it goes by names like "snuggling" or "spooning" and it's extremely emotionally fulfilling. We love each other. We're both virgins in a committed relationship. Sure, it's weird, but it's not depressing.

On a scale from 1 to 10, how weird is it to be a virgin at 21? (Please don't use Doomworld standards)

Probably 2 or 3, it's not really weird at all. I was at 21 :P

Really? I get a lot of subtexts from the few friends I have how much of a loser it is to be inexperienced at this age. Don't really know how serious they are.

1. Doomworld standards are irrelevant. You're barely old enough to drink alcohol in America, and you have a long way to go before you need to worry about what you have or haven't done relative to your birth date.

Late 20's/early 30's are when it starts to get unusual, if not weird. But by then, you have a little more maturity and wisdom on your side, allowing you to cope with it one way or another, and see it as not a big deal.

heh the joys of popular culture. In Britain it seems uncool if you haven't had sex before the age of consent (16). I vowed a long while back to lose my virginity with someone I loved, which I did at the age of 22 with my first love (not first girlfriend but the first person I found a strong connection with physically and emotionally). But hey that's my view and it might seem old fashioned.

I didn't mean it in a snarky way, I actually meant it as a joke, sorry if anyone got offended. Maybe it's a cultural issue. Then again, my country is very westernized (not a bad thing) so things are a bit blurry. But yeah, things definitely get awkward when my friends start "talking" about their experiences and I am next in line.

Well...maybe it ISN'T such a big deal after all. I just hope I won't regret all this wasted time hating myself for it during my prime years.

Part of my problem is that I fell in love with a girl from my class really hard. I thought of her almost constantly throughout high-school and still do from time to time. For that reason, I began to loathe myself more and more and also developed a fear of women. Nothing too serious but enough to make me hesitant of asking one out.

It's not too hard, you just need to be able to converstate, and act like you don't need them, yet not rude or stand-offish. If a girl likes you, she'll give you a green light. I find that its usaually a kind of look that they give you with their eyes, along with a smile. After that, you need to be decisive and show that you're interested too. That's when you can start grabbing their legs, and try to kiss them (try the kiss first). If you're out drinking together, I think this is usually around the time you are about the leave the second bar of the night.

I'm 28, so I guess it's "unusual." It'll be the same when I'm 30, 40, 70, and so on. It's a lifelong vow.

Well, it's certainly possible to go too far in other direction.

A few years ago, I had a colleague who was a full-blown sex addict. He'd regularly frequent orgies, have sex with both men and women (not that he was either gay or bi, he just liked having sex with more or less anything). He auditioned for porn once, got a the callback, but, for various reasons, decided not to go through with it. Hilariously, he once bought expensive porn blocking software for his PC - since he was unable to get any work done if he was alone - and got one of us to set the password for him. Then, on his own, he set about circumventing the porn blocker, succeeded, and then called the company to complain!

That's quite a story. Still better than being sexually frustrated.

Well most people have been there. it's not a nice feeling. I don't think I could say anything useful to this issue myself, because I joined a dating website to find a girlfriend. So can't use the phrase "enjoy your life and the right person will come"

Are you saying that being hopelessly in love with a girl for about four years and thinking about her so much that it affects your life is NOT uncommon?I imagined most people got over their first love in about 6 months max. Maybe I'm not such a loser after all.

Occasionally, I still think about this girl I fell for in school, 15 years later. Even if I wanted to be stalker-y and look her up on Facebook, I doubt if it would be successful since she's probably abandoned her maiden name by now. I'm left with only memories of those feelings.

So no, not really.
