What was your first M rated game?

Recommended Posts

Doom, then Diablo.

I drew so many crude pictures of scenes from those games (and later, Quake, and Extreme Assault) when I was ages 5-7

Mine was the PC port of the first Mortal Kombat. The port was released in 1993 if I remember correctly, but I got my hands on it probably in 1994.

The PC version of Doom predates rating systems. It was only retroactively rated in later releases for other platforms. Should it really count? :P

Gals Panic at the arcades, when I was like 11 or 12 (for those of you that don't know about it, it was basically a Qix clone with softcore pornography backgrounds). Then again there were softcore porn versions of Puzznic and of the various Mahjongg and videopoker machines since forever, but I wasn't really interested in the gameplay...

I played violent games before there were ratings. I remember a particularly bloody arcade game called Chiller.

Maybe The Immortal (1990) they had some gruesome death sequences like MK.

I remember you could cut a troll in a half, was pretty gory for that time, indeed.

While I say my first game was likely Mortal Combat on the MAME emulator when I was a wee thing, I definitely do remember playing Turok: Evolution. It was just a messy game, and back then it was the best thing ever. Now, I laugh it off with games such as Doom, obviously, and others such as Borderlands 2, GTA V, and even Sleeping Dogs. Turok: Evolution will still have a little place in my heart for it, though.

Probably some strip poker on old Zenith computer with black&white monitor, but that really wasn't my game.

Bought Shadow Warrior when I was 8 or 9, it was 300 finnish marks back then, which is 50 euros, not taking inflation into account. Back then nobody questioned when a little kid bought game, which casing had a picture of Lo Wang cutting monster's head off with a bloody katana.

This makes me wonder what games from before the current ratings system was in place would have gotten an M. I remember a few games having unexpected violence in them. Loom, for instance (a wonderful Lucas Arts game that would have made for a terrific film), had plenty of conflict but was relatively free of gore, and then in one very morbid scene, some high priest gets gutted in a spectacular bodily explosion. Very unexpected. But this was in 1990, so it was still sold as a kid-friendly game.

This. I don't know if it was rated, but should be, anyway:

I think this should rather be in insanity pit, What is purpose of the game anyway? I do not get it.

for me it was most likely Worms.. or maybe Doom.

I guess it is not a good idea to let your child start with games like DooM3, Jericho, Diablo 2, etc.

Most Atari games don't go much farther than that, avoid attacks, go to objective ;D

Also: Worms is a M rated game???? Why?

The purpose of the game is to hump a native women on a pole and thats it. It caused a bunch of shit back then which is no surprise.
