Hooray for stupidity

Pfft. Britney Spears, N'Sync, and teen magazines do more damage to adolescent psyche's than anything else, but forget them. We'll just ban video games all together. The system sucks.

As was so well put in the Music Man:

You know, there's trouble
Right here in River City!
With a capital T
And that rhymes with P
And that stands for Pool

<rant>I live in Missori, and I think this is what is called fascism, or nearing to it. Hell, my dad thinks its pure bullshit aswell. I heard that, in New York City, a new city ordinace that prohibits smoking in your own house. I for one dont like the smell of cigarettes, but i think non-smokers have not the right to tell smokers what to do. So what if it isnt the nicest smell, what if people dont like the smell of cooking garlic? are they going to make that illegal? What if someones shit stinks bad? when he comes out, are they going to 'cuff him? At anyrate, my country is ruled by morons who have no idea what they are talking about, im sure you will agree. say if a guy is walking down the street with porn in one hand, and a game that was supposed to be censored but wasnt(i know its not very realistic, its an example). What are they going to bust him for? hell, they call nude pictures of little kids 'art', i dont mean like baby photos your mom or dad took, if they took any at all. heh, so what if its possible some one may have better aim if they played FPSs a lot? you can practice your aim at a firing range. I play Doom and host of other games. I am a demented blood thirsty mass murderer</rant>

Wow, my first thought upon reading the judge's name was like "Another ultra-conservative fuckrat named Limbaugh. Must be related to Rush."

I'm good.

I fucking hate Rush Limbaugh. What makes me even angrier is that one of the only two radio stations worth listening to fucking bought the rights to air Limbaugh's radio show on their station, so from noone till three PM on weekdays it's "BLAH BLAH BLAH CONSERVATIVE BULLSHIT BLAH BLAH BLAH"

Rush Limbaugh should have his balls cut off and fed to him.

Hell, if computer games with violent content ever got banned in my country, I would acquire a gun illegally and shoot myself - just to show my distaste towards these losers who decided to ban them.

"The court fails to see how video games express ideas, impressions, feelings or information unrelated to the game itself. ... The issue in this cause of action is whether ... video games are a form of expression, not whether ... 'scripts' are a form of expression," Limbaugh wrote in his decision. "The only video games given to the Court were those presented by the (county), and the court simply did not find the 'extensive plot and character development' referred to ... in the games it viewed. "

You'd think that with the gaming industry making so bloody much money they'd be able to hire lawyers with brains.

The fact of it is, is that you can't escape violence. I don't understand why anyone would want to rail on other people's work. I absolutely despise practically every legality in this world. Especially the United States. The United States is a big pile of crap. Then again probably every country is about the same.

You have to remember that these are the people who blame TV, video games and music for their children killing each other but at the same time say lets go and nuke some god damned Arab bastards and hold up the bible claiming God justifies us. Everyone is so god damned blind. To actually think that these people are running our country.

We should tell the judge to open his fucking eyes to the world around him. There is probably more thought put into some video games than put into our constitution. And you know what really pisses me off, if the god damned game says MATURE on it, and you're not 17+, then you play at your own risk. I absolutely hate those morons who say "OH...Look little johnny killed 20 people and Doom or Mortal Kombat made him do it." Well, little johnny probably shouldn't have been playing that game in the first place and since he was, don't be so stupid as to follow the flock, find a scapegoat and sue someone who had absolutely nothing to do with it just so you can justify your meaningless message in life.

Heh... You never hear the people blaming the bible for teaching little johnny to go kill those 20 people. After all, the bible is nothing but violent stories so it's all the same. And even so, you have to be a moron to think 'because I played Doom I must automatically be someone who is going to gun thirty people down' or 'because I listen to Ozzy Osbourne I must have to bite off the head of a bat.' Fucking morons. Nothing but fucking morons. Oh well. Maybe I was a little off the topic. : )

If video games cannot be used to express feelings, ideas, or information...THEN HOW THE FUCK CAN THEY BE TELLING KIDS TO KILL THEIR CLASSMATES?

GAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

black: THANK YOU!!
WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE???
In australia, there are four raitings for games G G8+ M15+ MA15+ thay are printed on shiny stickers on the front of the box for all to see. Why do i see a four year old children playing GTA3? Because people are stupid. Every time i see a mother buy her 8 year old child a copy of SoF, I want to grab the box out of there hands and smack here around with it. sure, we all snuck into movies and got games that were above our heads when were young. but it was limited. we coulden't just sit down and wach/play when ever we wanted. if a child is exposed to enought vilonce at a young age, it will have an effect on them. but nooooo lets ban all of them! after all, only Kids play games. I feel sick.

Games don't make kids killers. The kind of person who walks into a school and kills a bunch of people is mentally disturbed and no amount of violent imagery or hugs and therapy is going to deviate them from their eventual act. Sooner or later the mental dis-function would catch up to you.

Here's a question, do games make killers better killers?

I don't think so - hitting something with a gun is harder in real life than in a computer game, due to a lot of factors like the gun's weight, gun jams etc.
It might make you more "used to" the thought of shooting people, but I don't think it enhances your aiming skills.

Hell no. There's no way that playing a game could train you to do something in the Real World(TM). Even killing people in an FPS, even the most graphic, sophisticated FPS engines (SoF), couldn't do reality justice. There's just too many things that go on that no game could hope to emulate. And personally, when any sort of 'professional' or 'expert' implies such a thing, I take it as a personal insult.

(It doesn't help that all the weapons in SoF seem to be firing .75-cal mega-power ammo. But I suppose they didn't wnat to or couldn't make it really realistic.)

Although I agree Rellik, I also have to say that although these entertainment factors aren't (in my opinion) responsible for the school shootings/other acts of violence, you also have to look at what people like to blame. It just so happens that we have every asshole in the political system and the only reason these people didn't ban these games years ago is because of the business side of it. Business is business. Do you really think that the business people care if they may be even partially responsible for kids killing each other? I doubt it.

Anyway, back to the assholes... like I saying everyone likes to blame something else. It's easy to find a scapegoat and become a missionary without a mission. But people (refer to what I said before)are too stupid to realize that these things aren't responsible. I never said that video games make people better killers, but hey, how hard is it to get a gun, walk up to someone and shoot them in the head. Obviously (refer to any school shooting) not that hard if you have the motive to do it.

I personally think that there are no right or wrong answers to anything controversial and this is no exception. As long as they have their statistics they will keep arguing. Common sense...Something that was lost so long ago...

Also note that these fuckwits who committed those shootings all had access to real weapons and possibly knew how to handle them.
A regular person with no real knowledge on how to handle guns wouldn't be so "effective" at shooting people as these cocksuckers.

There's more to it than just "point the gun at your target" - you have to hold the gun firmly, place the butt firmly into your shoulder (and do it the right way), press your cheek into the side of the gun and look through the sights so that the backsight and the foresight align - and that's just part of it.

Not if you have a handgun, not to mention that anyone could get used to shooting a gun (for the sake of shooting a gun) very easily. It's not that hard... Unless you start with a 12 gauge or something. Maybe that's just me.

I think that parents like to blame things like games and movies rather than face the fact that it's really their fault. If my kid shoots up a school, it's because I failed as a parent. heh, I've had a fair bit of experience shooting guns. I even got to fire an AK-47 once:

We used to play paintball with a bunch of teh Canadian border guards just across the border in Montana. It was an awesome field, all sandstone carved into what we call "hoo-doos", lots of towering walls and deep trenches to run through. There's about 10 of us canuks and 1 American shows up. He doesn't even bother playing and spends the whole afternoon shooting his guns. Shotgun, .22-250, AK-47 (semi-auto) and a 9 millimeter handgun. Guy was a total nut-job too. :) Then again, Montana has more than a few of those.

I know the following thing isn't about video games, I'm going to talk about my drawings. The things I draw are pretty violent. When I draw my Lizards killing each other, people think that I'll be the next Columbine killer. Ok, first of all, the things I draw are all illegal weapons that only Law Enforcement Officers carry (HK-MP5, M-16, etc.) and second of all, can you imagine someone like me, a short little kid, weighing 110 pounds carry those kinds of guns? I HIGHLY doubt it! Think about it, the recoil would probably send me flying around, the guns would be heavy, and also I probably couldn't afford the ammunition and of course the guns themselves because they'd cost hundreds of dollars.

This whole thing about video games making kids into killers is bullshit. I've played dozens of FPS games and I haven't killed anyone!

Well it seems that's only because
a) you cannot carry the weapon
b)You are too slightly built to fire it...and
3)You cannot afford the price

Don't underestimate yourself like that.
When I was in the army, I was an LMG gunner (light-machinegun gunner) - I carried a 122 cm long gun weighing above 10 kg and I was the smallest AND lightest member in my whole damn platoon. I didn't have a problem carrying and firing it (I was a little slower than most of the boys - but mostly because of my short legs).
