D_OPENIN is a weird song to use. It is very positively scaring and excellent to build suspense but it is so quiet and lightly instrumented that even the most casual combat will drown it out.

Now, Im quoting myself! Meh..

Well, I played the updated version of your wad and I must say that it is an appropriate choice. The map does also seem a bit light on action though.

TechnoDoom is "happy"?

Well, if that music track you linked to is "TechnoDoom" then yes.

I've found that heavy-metal midi tracks work VERY well in wad files. Here's our midi tracklist for our wads so far...

Dead Souls (Nine Inch Nails)
Hollow (Pantera)
Sanctified (Nine Inch Nails)
I, Zombie (White Zombie)
Black No.1 (Type O-Negative)
Coma White (Marilyn Manson)
Falling Away From Me (KoRn)
A Warm Place (Nine Inch Nails)
Tier (Rammstein)
Sweet Dreams (Marilyn Manson)

...anyone else prefer metal midis?

Huh, I thought it was pretty good. Sure, it's not Oh-My-God-I'm-Going-To-Shit-My-Pants scary, but that's not necessary for a good Doom song.

Sweet Dreams is not a Marilyn Manson song! (But he did a cover of it).

Somehow I have an idea about exactly these songs showing up in your Underworld project.

Heh, my single crappy DM map for UDM1.wad had a midi of Tool - Sober =\

Yeah, i know 'Sweet Dreams' was a cover - along with 'Put a Spell on You' and 'Rock'n'Roll Nigger' on the 'Smells like Childred' EP. The original was The Eurythmics.

Anyway we've been scouring the net for more midis, and have found more Manson, NIN, Rammstein, Metallica, and much more, so expect these to appear later on :)

Not crappy at all. It's one of my favorite songs.

I said it was 'happy', not 'happy shit' - that doesn't necessarily mean that I don't like the track.

Hm, it's good - definitely better than the "official" map01 music in Doom 2, but it's too happy

And while it would be a good Doom song, I'd still prefer something more evil, Hell, I'd prefer something more evil over the official Doom music tracks (but that doesn't mean that I don't like the official music).

Weirdly enough, the D_runnin of the Freedoom project sounds cool enough even though it is almost the same as the Doom2 one.

Love it. It serves its purpose, it conveys that feeling that while you endured countless enemies in Doom, you haven't accomplished anything yet. It's almost mocking you, and at the same time, is ominous enough to not sound clowny.

Map01 music happy? hmm. I don't know. It's a perfect first map song to me.

At any rate, no other Doom 2 track annoys the fuck outta me like Map01 - and most of Doom 2's tracks annoy me a lot.
So it's crap in my book.

I agree. There are no really good tracks in DOOM2. Some of them are OK (d_count, d_ddtblu, d_ampie), but are ruined by crappy arrangements and that they sound kinda mediocre rather than evil.

Download the mp3 version of DTT Blues. It is utterly fantastic.

It's OK. Still too dull IMO, DOOM music should either be evil or inflammatory.

I have that already - isn't much better than the midi version, still annoying as fuck.

Exactly, and that's why I like Doom 1's music far better - most of it is not as cheesy as Doom 2's and none of the Doom 1 tracks are annoying as fuck (I even like "Hiding the Secrets", E1M9/E3M9, as a music track although I find it too cheesy for Doom).

My favorite Doom tracks:
Intermission from Doom (E2M3)
Evil Incarnate (Map31)
The Demons from Adrian's Pen (E2M2 - fav ambient Doom track)
At the Gates of Doom (E1M1)
Walz of the Demons (E2M7/E3M7)
E3M1
The Imps' Song (E1M2)
Suspense (E1M5)
Deep into the Code (E3M3)
On the Hunt (E1M6/E3M6)
Facing the Spider (E3M8)
Dark Halls (E1M3)
Shawn's got the Shotgun (Map07/19/29)
Getting too Tense (Map28)
Victory (Doom 1)
Kitchen Ace [and Taking Names] (E1M4)
Sinister (E2M6)
The Demon's Dead (Map10/15)

Dead Souls (Nine Inch Nails)

Meh...

Sanctified (Nine Inch Nails)

Listening to that song while playing Doom is probably the sole reason I started listening to NIN in the first place.

Black No.1 (Type O-Negative)

Hmm...maybe.

Coma White (Marilyn Manson)

I don't remember any song by that name, unless its not on Mechanical Animals...

Falling Away From Me (KoRn)

Eew...

A Warm Place (Nine Inch Nails)

Hmmm...that would be pretty cool.

Sweet Dreams (Marilyn Manson)

Maybe the midi, but not the actual song. I used to have the midi a while ago, when I had this huge collection for some reason.

Personaly, I think these would be the best tracks for Doom:
Anything from Egodram by Das Ich
Asphyxiate by Genitorturers
Anything by Razed in Black or Wumpscut
