Spectre (the Bond film, not the monster) - will undoubtedly contain SPOILERS

Recommended Posts

If you've seen it, what did you think of it? Favourite / worst bits?

Everyone I know - and possibly myself - thinks it was good in parts, but not as effective overall as Skyfall.

I say possibly myself because I haven't decided yet. The cinema I went to was packed, lots of people getting up and down, kids, noise etc. so I feel I need to see it again to make up my mind.

And pretty please stay on topic, I don't want narratives on the genre or worse, real life governments / intelligence etc. etc.

For me this is a genuine contender (against Skyfall) for the best Bond film. The only reason I can't decide is because they are actually quite different films! Skyfall follows on from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace in doing the modern, grittier Bourne-styled film that Craig has excelled in, whilst Spectre harks back to the good old days of gadgets, ridiculous bases for the bad guy and... Well, SPECTRE. The humour and gimmick-driven*, nigh-unstoppable henchman put me in mind of Roger Moore's tenure, but without the idea that Bond is far too old for what he's doing or the interest that teenage girls are taking in him.

As for a favourite bit - either his leaving the base near the end (phrased ever-so-vaguely to avoid spoilers) or the whole pre-title sequence at the Day of the Dead in Mexico City. Sam Smith's castrato song sucks, but when I was watching the title sequence, I did think it suited what was going on to an extent, so perhaps as the film theme it was passable.

*Mr Hinx did have metallic/painted thumbnails, right? I wasn't just imagining that in his introductory scene?

I haven't seen it yet and although I never really cared for Craig's version of Bond I might still go see it.

Necro bump!

I saw it, it was pretty good.

The only downside is the loud sounds, which now it feels like my brain is going to explode.

That guy with the metal painted long fingernails might have been a homage to Jaws since the guy was pretty much impossible to physically beat and he was mostly a mute.

Story wise, this does show how the SPECTRE organization is pretty much out to make Bond's life a living hell. Nothing short of personal jealousness.

I suppose the next film will be out in 2018.

It was interesting to see Blofeld return. (I believe he is related to the original Blofeld, though I didn't catch that part to well) He didn't die at the end so maybe that leaves room for him to fall in a chimney in a later film?

I believe he might be a bad guy in the next movie (probably 2018?), the guy is crafty so he might just escape from jail or lawyer it up just to cause more havoc.
