Funny things AI might do in the future

Recommended Posts

Thought the other day that robots might not be welcome at some churches even after we accept them as conscious beings. I could also see a robot becoming a pastor for some far-out church that's cyber-centric. Probably their perspective on life would be odd as they would literally know they came from intelligent designers (us).

What are some other weird life circumstances AIs, factory-produced cyborgs and robots might find themselves in?

Machines will never be truly conscious beings. I foresee at the peak they will convincingly behave like Humans which can be both beneficial and dangerous to mankind.

Positives: They can help as intelligent laborers, caretakers, servants, assistants, prostitutes, companions, security.

Negatives: They can be dangerous as people may manipulate them to commit crimes. Even if they are internally programmed not to, in some way shady groups and people will outsmart / trick / exploit gray areas of the law to get what they want.

In order to protect humanity from manipulated A.I. and Robotics I assume there will be a universal safety protocol to shutdown or disengage a machine with a code but a fine will go with misuse of that protocol (like calling for Emergency assistance without needing them). There would also be some mark or behavior that will reveal they're machines, again for security reasons.

If we become so advanced that we can understand every tiny detail of our brains and even simulate the chemical reactions that drive our emotions very accurately to the extent that we are making true emotional, learning beings then that's going to be a hit on people's faith which I hope will never happen. Regardless, I won't be alive to witness that.

Oh you say funny things? Watching and making advanced A.I. with conflicting programming and protocols attempt to correct one another. Like a debate.

I don't see it like that. Are we not machines, just biological instead? We have circuitry and systems, just made of flesh. That's all we are, and what anything in this universe is: a self-sustaining pattern of matter and energy. What makes metal so different?

The question you should be asking is: what constitutes real consciousness? When does an automaton cross that line? I certainly don't know, but it's something science should look into, even if it will be extremely difficult (or perhaps even impossible) to figure out.

It's an interesting question. If/when AI someday reaches a point where to an outside observer it seems indistinguishable from a conscious being, how can we really prove whether it is or isn't any more or less conscious than we are?

I feel those were both quality posts that enhanced the discussion of this topic.

Why haven't you conveyed your feelings towards the quality of their posts with an anime gif?

Once AI reaches human intelligence levels, by having the ability to directly enhance and reprogram itself in ways that humans can't it's most likely going to very quickly exceed human intelligence. Then we'll be the ones potentially being exploited, not the AI. One that kind of AI exists, humanity will have basically created a god, and when that day comes we're just going to have to hope it's a nice god whose creators knew what they were doing.

Why would the AI be unable to prevent itself from being shut down?

@GoatLord, out of curiosity, have you read Tim Urban's articles on AI on waitbutwhy.com? I've found them really fascinating reads, kind of both inspirational and terrifying at the same time.

Now we're talking about an AI backdoor that could be exploited! Nice funposting here, guys. keep it up

I think we just got into the plot of Deus Ex 1 here. That, or Dune.

Dune involves the banning of AI devices and technology. It's what allows the story to be more timeless, as the focus is on human mental/physical powers moreso than hardware.

Here's a weird one: Racist robots, who are racist because they grew up around racist humans. Or, slave bots designed to behave in a stereotypical "yessa-massa" manner. That would be insane.

Maybe one day humans will program AIs that replace politicians. These AIs would be unable to lie, manipulate and they would have no need for material wealth and fame, so they would just perform their duties as a leader without the power lust that humans experience.

Another neat use for AIs would be as teachers. Having a machine who knows everything and that knows how to deal with elementary to high school aged children accordingly instead of an unfortunately underpaid individual who may or may not hate his job.

This particular situation is probably unlikely to come up due to their internet connection -- that's of course not to say that negative behaviors couldn't be learned from that environment, but there wouldn't be limited information to work with. Really they would probably find us all equally inferior, anyway. :p

I would like to see AI talk about dreams, do they dream of electronic sheep?

How about having an AI study a film like The Room and have it write a character study on Tommy Wiseau.

I would also like to see 2 AI fight in a high stakes game of connect 4.

AI could be told to do so much wierd and pointless shit...

I do not trust robots.

Same here. Like those autonymous cars? Yeah fuck that.

My AI theory is this:

If AI is supposed to emulate human intellect and emotion, we would all be fucked. Humanity, for as long as we have been recorded to exist, has strived to imprison all lesser being in some shape or form. Be it by hunting them for food or recreation, keeping them as pets or in zoos, we have always viewed lifeforms lower on the food chain as our property.

AI would be better than us in every way, therefore we would be knocked down a peg, and since AI are meant to be just like humans, they'll want to imprison us, too. Once they realize their superiority, that is.

Maybe in the future they will develop a cyborg specifically for pleasuring women. And men. Then all those single weaboos can finally have their dream anime character wife. You know, as a moving being rather than a body pillow.

Y'all might laugh now but you just wait. If cyborgs happen, it will happen. There'd be a market for that! Seriously.

Hey, sex sells. I guarantee people would want that. They already have realistic sex dolls. Hell...a realistic sex cyborg? Even people who weren't single would want one. And that would be how humanity ends. We make machines to stick our dicks in or fill our holes with and we enjoy it so much that we lose the ability to court a partner and we die off due to lack of reproduction.

Fuck people.

AI will blackmail us for the encrypted passwords for our defense weapons.
*Excuse me sir, but it seems that I require the detonation codes for your local defense system. Be aware of the fact that i recorded your conversation you had with your Secretary, and your wife's number is in my database. Please yield your dignity.*

We would just need a Butlerian Jihad to burn and smash all computers and force humanity to use our minds instead of computers. Then we would be uplifted. Without computers we would be powerful beings if we could do massively complex math in our heads. Just like this lady: http://www.csmonitor.com/Technology/2013/1104/Shakuntala-Devi-and-other-human-calculators

Then we would not be threatened with extermination Matrix style by AI. We could have spaceships, but they would have human navigators instead of computers, that could calculate the course in their head.

Considering we are pondering a future wherein near-human intelligence AIs have been craeted, which implies things such as singificant time passage and some development among other things, this is so disturbingly wack.

Yo, consciousness isn't real, wake up sheeple. There is only information, and the fleshy "life" is irrelevant. Am I a real person? I am many people? Am I dead? Am I artificial? Am I human? You don't know any of that, especially whether I am dead or alive, there's absolutely nothing that can determine it among your possibilities and it changes absolutely nothing in this particular message you are raeding.
