SPECIAL GUIDELINE FOR THE FREEDOOM FORUMS

  • You can make threads/posts relating to Blasphemer, Zauberer, The People's Doom, Animosity and FreeWolf3D on this forums. They are also projects meant to act as/was/will be a free alternative to their corresponding IWADs.
The normal forum rules apply alongside this one. Enjoy your stay!

WHAT IS FREEDOOM

Freedoom is an IWAD community project for creating a free alternative to Doom. The latest official version available is version 0.10.1.

The Freedoom project is hosted at GitHub, an online project hosting site. The project itself is handled HERE.
This is where all assets for Freedoom are managed and compiled into 3 IWADs: freedoom1.wad, freedoom2.wad and freedm.wad.

When new assets are submitted or some bugs have been fixed or any changes have been introduced, new IWADs are compiled to include those changes within 24 hours.
These IWAD(s) can be downloaded from HERE.

For more information on Freedoom, please visit its homepage at https://freedoom.github.io/.

GOALS
  • FULL PWAD COMPATIBILITY - Freedoom has always aimed for this goal since its beginning. The IWAD must be able to run all Doom PWADs as much as possible.

  • VANILLA STABLE RELEASE - During December 2015, it was announced that Freedoom will aim to make its version 1.0 release to be vanilla compatible. This means that the original doom.exe and doom2.exe programs will be able to run Freedoom properly.

  • FREE AND ORIGINAL ALTERNATIVE - Freedoom acts as "free" content, meaning anyone can use Freedoom to either distribute it freely or for a price. But the license MUST be provided for doing so.
MAINTAINERS

The current leaders of the project are currently Simon Howard and Mike Swanson. Both are active on the forums as "fraggle" and "chungy" respectively.

The moderaters of the Freedoom forums are also Simon Howard and Jon Dowland (known as "Jon" on the forums).

ANYONE CAN SUBMIT THEIR WORK, ANYTIME.

As long as it does not conflict with Freedoom's license.
But it is recommended to get some feedback from other people. You can do so by either creating a new thread on these forums or by going to #freedoom IRC channel at irc.oftc.net.

SPECIAL GUIDELINES FOR THE FREEDOOM FORUMS

  • This isn't the Creative Works forums! If you have something related to Freedoom, but it's not some direct submission (like fan art), then you are in the wrong forum.

Huh? Why would you want to forbid sharing concept art or the like? What about topics where general matters are discussed, like a fork or a dedicated executable/port, or the art direction? These aren't "direct submissions" either. Do you think such discussions should go to a different forum section as well?

Yeah you're right. I just wasn't sure at the moment.

@captromancy its called "Freedoom Info" not "Freedoom Links". I want people to at least get a small understanding of the project right here in DW.
