DoomUK Posted September 14, 2011 Nice stuff. I always enjoy looking at these. Off-topicy, but there's something I've always been confused over. Does the (final) Doom II boxart depict Doomguy with a weird haircut, or is that supposed to be a shotgun guy infighting with the cybie? I used to think it was the latter when I saw it as a kid. But some people seem to think it's Doomguy. What say you? 0 Share this post Link to post
Jodwin Posted September 14, 2011 Sarges are bald. Plus, why would it show a sarge on it? 0 Share this post Link to post

Kind of like how a couple of the barons on the Doom boxart had guns of some description in place of one of their arms and Doomguy wielded an smg. Plus, why wouldn't it show a sarge on it? :p 0 Share this post Link to post
Mr. T Posted September 14, 2011 Man...that Hirez Doom2 one is totally sick OT but does anyone have a hirez version of this? It's much better than the other one IMO 0 Share this post Link to post

Mr. T Posted September 14, 2011 Ohh yeah. I wonder if they changed the cover because it was too violent (blood oh no). It sums up wolfenstein perfectly! The second pic...WTF? 0 Share this post Link to post
phobosdeimos1 Posted September 14, 2011 It was the cover of my dad's Mac wolfenstein floppy disk.. Also, ever find it strange how Aryan B.J is?? 0 Share this post Link to post

They used that pic for the Handbook and for the Titlepic of the MAC Version of Wolfenstein 3D. There was another pic showed the Wolfenstein 3D guy breaking through a wall. Looked also like a Ken Rieger art, because it was the same style. http://www.videogamemm.com/main/sites/default/files/images/Wolfenstein3D_shirt01.gif http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/ac322/omega_supreme/Classic%20Games%20Collection/Apogee/wolf3d-shirt.jpg http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/684/img1215i.jpg/ Doom 2 Titlepic: I think it's the Doomguy with a futuristic hair cut. Look at the endpic and the Doom PSX art. 0 Share this post Link to post

It's Doomguy, and his haircut in that boxart is very similar to Brom's version. I'm assuming the artist used or was given Brom's piece to work from. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mithran Denizen Posted October 22, 2011 Is the boxart in question not actually Brom's work to begin with? 0 Share this post Link to post
Hentai Demon Posted October 22, 2011 Mithran Denizen said:Is the boxart in question not actually Brom's work to begin with? It's credited as being done by Roger Motzkus in the original post. I'm assuming it's this piece that DoomUK asked about since he referred to the "(final) Doom II" boxart of the original post. The Motzkus piece comes after Brom's. Side note: I always hated that original Julie Bell work for Wolfenstein. A Nazi dropping an AR-15 from about 20 years into the future... And B.J. looks more like Jack Burton. 0 Share this post Link to post
yellowmadness54 Posted October 22, 2011 Oh man, makes me want to find some of my favorite album covers and post them here (but I'm sure that'll be frowned upon) That wolfenstein one (the one I've never seen with the whole nazi cast behind B.J) reminds me of Johnny Quest, or some older 60's cartoon. One that PSX final doom cover, it looks like the cyberdemon in the way back shot the lost soul at doom guy, as you can see it firing but no rocket. 0 Share this post Link to post

I'd agree with you more if DoomUK hadn't also mentioned "a shotgun guy infighting with the cybie", which I don't think really applies to the PSX art. In context I think he just said "final" to distinguish the official Doom 2 box art from the Julie bell rendition. Your point about the PSX cover's hairstyle being likely influenced by the Brom piece is something I'd never noticed until now, though. 0 Share this post Link to post

When I saw it in a magazine, I thought it was a parody of Doom 2's titlepic, considering how cartoony the Cyberdemon looks, like a bull. The retail Wolfenstein cover sucks. The version with Nazis and a dog waiting for Blaz behind a gate, I don't like. It looks too peaceful or innocent. phobosdeimos1 said:Also, ever find it strange how Aryan B.J is?? 1.
