Blzut3 Posted June 4, 2012 Due to differences between the staff members, the Skulltag project has been forked by Torr Samaho into Zandronum. While it is in early stages as work continues on version 1.0, formerly known as Skulltag 98e, Zandronum seeks to reduce some of the bulk of Skulltag and serve as a clean slate both for the port as well as the community. Torr has also released the first testing build for the project. 0 Share this post Link to post
Xtife Posted June 4, 2012 Lol how many times has this happened now? Hope they keep up with zdoom with this fork 0 Share this post Link to post
printz Posted June 4, 2012 I love the name. Sure sounds better than a skull and a child's game. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bucket Posted June 4, 2012 Excellent idea. Let's make another source port that's nearly identical on the surface to the other dozen ones, and splinter our tiny community even more. 1 Share this post Link to post
printz Posted June 4, 2012 Like I said elsewhere, I hope this port will try to get up to date with the ZDoom updates. 0 Share this post Link to post
dew Posted June 4, 2012 i dunno, zandrum feels a bit awkward. zadrodum. zumdrum. zardozum. seriously, look away for 10 seconds and blank your mind. think about kittens or something. then try to recall the name and how it is spelled. i can't do it. 1 Share this post Link to post
david_a Posted June 4, 2012 I think you might be right, I keep thinking it's called "Zandorum." 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted June 4, 2012 I guess it's Z- for ZDoom, -andro- for android, and -num for heck if I know, aluminum? david_a said:I think you might be right, I keep thinking it's called "Zandorum." As in, Rick Zandorum? 0 Share this post Link to post
Walter confetti Posted June 4, 2012 so, this is the evolution of skulltag? 0 Share this post Link to post
Whoo Posted June 4, 2012 If their supposed "community reforms" actually go through then this might be worth the effort. Though I imagine the old community is just going to migrate over and recreate the Skulltag Community stereotype. 0 Share this post Link to post
Blzut3 Posted June 4, 2012 Bucket said:and splinter our tiny community even more. The one thing this fork isn't doing is splintering the community. I'm sure Carnevil (the only staff member of Skulltag atm) has no intentions of continuing work on Skulltag, but that's a question for him to answer.Gez said:I guess it's Z- for ZDoom, -andro- for android, and -num for heck if I know, aluminum? Andro comes from andronmeda, and the num comes from infernum (latin for hell) actually. Torr picked it since none of us could agree on a name. Personally I don't think the name matters in the long run since if Zandronum is a great port than people will use it regardless.Gez said:As in, Rick Zandorum? We are competing against Obamex right? For the record we've heard just about every joke in the book for the name. 0 Share this post Link to post
Dragonsbrethren Posted June 4, 2012 Gez said:They should have called it Skatlug. I'm inclined to agree. 0 Share this post Link to post
mandax Posted June 5, 2012 {Zandronum} ^ {ZDaemon} = {zdamon} There is 86% ZDaemon in Zandronum ;) Anyways, good luck with the fresh port reboot. 0 Share this post Link to post

GreyGhost Posted June 5, 2012 Bookmarked, I'll be keeping an eye on this.Bucket said:Excellent idea. Bold prediction - by the time Doom turns 25 (which will probably coincide with the release of Doom 5: The Icon of Sin Strikes Back) there will be more ports than community members. 0 Share this post Link to post
Blastfrog Posted June 5, 2012 Edit: disregard this, I see you've already got it covered. 0 Share this post Link to post

GreyGhost Posted June 5, 2012 They have a website, it doesn't get more serious than that. ;-) 0 Share this post Link to post
Phobus Posted June 5, 2012 Sounds alright to me! Just a shame online multiplaayer never holds my interest for very long really, else I'd be following this story closely. 0 Share this post Link to post
Memfis Posted June 5, 2012 This is probably the worst combination of name and logo I've ever seen. I find it very hard to believe that this is serious. I mean WOW it's bad.Blzut3 said:Andro comes from andronmeda, and the num comes from infernum (latin for hell) actually. This is absolutely impossible to figure out. 1 Share this post Link to post
Creaphis Posted June 5, 2012 If the name was actually good, there wouldn't be so many people saying it's nonsensical and hard to remember, and there wouldn't be such a need to defend it. Just change the name! Change it now. Even if the final name has to be picked executively, I'm sure you can agree on some requirements. Here are your first two: 1. You should be able to remember the name after one reading. 2. You should be able to tell people about it in real life without feeling like an idiot. "Odamex" is another three-syllable nonsense word but it works because it rolls off the tongue and is easy to remember. If you need to be able to quantify that fact to be able to process it, consider that "Odamex" has six phonemes while "Zandronum" has nine, which is evidently three too many. "Skulltag" works because it's just two syllables and it's a novel combination of existing English words. "ZDaemon" is a shitty name actually, I've never even known how to pronounce it, but ZDaemon has never really set the standard in anything so I guess that's alright then. 1 Share this post Link to post
Lizardcommando Posted June 5, 2012 The name Zandronum sounds like a generic 80's space shooter arcade game. 1 Share this post Link to post
Graf Zahl Posted June 5, 2012 I think the topic's headline gets it right: It sounds like some fantasy name a pharmaceutical company might choose for their latest product. Certainly not like a Multiplayer Doom engine. 1 Share this post Link to post
