cannonball Posted June 23, 2012 A few off the bat, probably other people have said these * Vile Flesh - This is a travesty in my opinion. * Real World and Real World 2 - Two solid mapsets by the same author, well I enjoy them. Rather inspired by the origional doom/doom2 maps in parts. * Needs more detail - Another solid wad which hasn't been given enough love * Doom 2 Reloaded * Rebirth *Death Tormention (any of them really) - They are all good E4 replacements. * Maybe twilight zone 2, I think the new sounds and monsters put people off, but it showed some good signs about a mapper who would in a couple of years bring out 2002 A doom odyssey, one of my favourite wads of all time. 0 Share this post Link to post

d@ngib5on Posted June 24, 2012 Possibly id 6714, it is probably one of the most overlooked megawads that is actually decent, possibly because somehow it didn't go into the megawads folder. Couple.recent comments have reminded me of it. 0 Share this post Link to post
savagegrant Posted June 24, 2012 Thanks for the corrections vdgg and also The Ultimate DooMer. I've added more suggestions from d@ngib5on, fullmetalvaran33, vdgg, T-Rex, Memfis, j4rio, Processingcontrol and The Ultimate DooMer. The recommendations list has now been moved to the first post of the thread and some statistics have been provided for all WADs from the two lists. 0 Share this post Link to post
Gatling Posted June 24, 2012 pcorf said:Endgame.wad but that was released before the first Cacowards in 2004. One of the best and most underrated wads of all time. Interesting. The other posts here seem to imply that their suggested wads are good but not great. How would you rate Endgame.wad overall? 20th best wad of all time? 0 Share this post Link to post
T-Rex Posted June 25, 2012 When I was listing my top favourite wads that never won a Cacoward, I forgot to mention TNT Renascence by Eternal for a good 2010 wad. 0 Share this post Link to post
Doomguy 2000 Posted June 25, 2012 Here's another wad that I think is one of the best to never win a cacoward. Doom Center by Doorhenge is another good one worth checking out. 0 Share this post Link to post
hex11 Posted June 26, 2012 Two others that really impressed the hell out of me: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=14155 http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11968 Both are vanilla Doom TCs, from 1996 or so... 0 Share this post Link to post

T-Rex Posted August 1, 2012 I just played a couple more wads which are deserving of a Cacoward. Dark Castle | Virgil the Doom Poet | 2000 | Doom II | Boom Ash to Ash | Virgil the Doom Poet | 2001 | Doom II | Boom Nexus | Brad "Vorpal" Spencer | 2001 | Doom II | Vanilla 0 Share this post Link to post

T-Rex Posted August 17, 2012 Okay, here's another noteworthy megawad that I'm sure no one has mentioned on this thread yet. Biowar | Chris Harbin/John Bishop/Paul Corfiatis | 1999 | Doom II | Vanilla 0 Share this post Link to post

T-Rex Posted August 20, 2012 If Heretic wads count, here's a couple of wads I found nice and worthy to be recognised as classics. Recant by John "Dr. Sleep" Anderson. Smudge by Chris Klie. 0 Share this post Link to post

Gez Posted August 22, 2012 A bit arbitrary though. There are other client-server ports than Ozdaemexum. Why E for multiplayer? What do you do if a VAvoom mod is recommended? Wouldn't Heretic deathmatch/CTF/etc. maps be HE by the same convention? Am I the only one who abbreviates 'Exen to XN? What do you do for mods that want TNT or Plutonia? And for standalones (e.g., Harmony)? So many questions... I'd suggest ** for vanilla, ++ for limit-removing. That way, it looks less like a proper name (it's not, there's no port called Limit Removing or Vanilla) and more like a broad generic filter. I'd also suggest EE for Eternity Engine since it's the abbreviation pretty much all EE users are already familiar with. (Very few people should understand "Everything Else" forum in that context.) DL, LE or LG for Doom Legacy would be easier to understand than GC. Garbage Collector? 0 Share this post Link to post
savagegrant Posted August 22, 2012 The DE is short for deathmatch. No WADs that require Vavoom have won a Cacoward or been recommended yet but an abbreviation can be made when/if that happens. TNT and Plutonia WADs are grouped as FD. There are so few Final Doom WADs in the lists that it's no issue to just read the .txt files to find out which IWAD they are for. EE would have been used for the Eternity Engine but I was forced to choose abbreviations based on character widths so that the columns would line up properly. 0 Share this post Link to post

hex11 Posted August 23, 2012 DM = deathmatch (there's precedent for this) CS = client/server (also very commonly used abbreviation) HX = Hexen (more logical, follows pattern of HR = Heretic) And a small nitpick: Classic Episode 2 is really just limit-removing, with some optional enhancements for ZDoom. 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted August 23, 2012 To a lot of Doomers, HR means only one thing, and it sure as hell ain't Heretic. 0 Share this post Link to post

So the choice is to either have all the abbreviations being very obvious and the list look like a dog's breakfast, or to have a few less obvious ones and have a neat-looking list. lol 0 Share this post Link to post
