DOOMSLAYER Posted November 11, 2012 Hey Everyone. Going to Days of The Dead Horror Convention in Feb. Anyone ever been? Im going to the one in atlanta GA. I have never been to one before. Should be interesting! http://www.daysofthedead.net/atlanta/ 0 Share this post Link to post
Bucket Posted November 11, 2012 How the fuck do fucking wrestlers keep finding their way into these conventions? They're not horror or fantasy or sci-fi or gaming. They're soap operas for boys, born out of some violent hormone-fueled fantasy, and anyone who doesn't grow out of that shit by the time they're 15 is emotionally stunted or a self-hating homophobic as far as I'm concerned. 0 Share this post Link to post

You're not noticing any irony here? Most "horror" movies appeal to the exact same demographic. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bucket Posted November 12, 2012 I'm going to have to be pedantic here and assert the distinction between horror, slashers, and torture porn. I think you're referring to the latter two. 0 Share this post Link to post
DoomUK Posted November 12, 2012 Bucket said:They're not horror or fantasy or sci-fi or gaming. Further to what david_a pointed out, you'd be surprised at how many people snigger at sci-fi conventions and even gaming conventions. Even the Comic Cons, probably the biggest international "geek" conventions, raise eyebrows among people who aren't really into all of that stuff. You're probably not going to come across many of these people on the internet, but they're out there. Pro wrestling is dumb entertainment for pubescent teenagers and hillbillys, but to the "non-geek" it's no more stupid a concept than people dressing up as Star Wars or Final Fantasy characters and walking around giant warehouses all day, queuing up to get an autograph from some actor who was in some obscure movie. And let's be honest, where else are wrestlers going to go? 0 Share this post Link to post

That's nice, but just look at some of the featured attractions - Frankenhooker, Leatherface, Jason Voorhees... Who do you think this convention is targeted toward? 0 Share this post Link to post
Mr. Freeze Posted November 12, 2012 I'd be a bigger fan of horror conventions if I didn't hate half of their subject matter. Slasher movies, torture porn, found-footage ripoffs...so fucking BORING. That being said, the Return of the Living Dead panel looks great. Bucket said:duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh So wrestling is bad (and watching it makes me stupid? Thanks professor!), but horror movies are legitimate entertainment? People who find escapism in fictional murders are probably more stunted than wrestling fans. 0 Share this post Link to post

Bucket Posted November 13, 2012 Solid logic there. Mick Foley also wrote a children's book, so let's have a exhibition cage match at the local children's library. 0 Share this post Link to post

Also, having been to a general nerd convention, I can safely say that I never want to set foot in one again. This may seem odd, as obviously I must be a bit of a geek myself, but I just did not like the environment or how ridiculously over-dedicated people were to things like queueing up to see the girl who played Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter films (for example). Nerds disgust me :P 0 Share this post Link to post
