Wolf3D episode images

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

In Wolf3D episode selection screen, there are images that represent each episode. Most of them are rather obvious, but I still can't figure out the one representing Ep. 5:

Any idea of what could this be?

"Trail of the Madman" takes place in Castle Erlangen. B.J.'s goal is to find the maps and plans of the chemical war, guarded by Gretel Grosse, Hans' sister.

Some deadly chemical gas?

I don't know... it could be, but doesn't look like a gas too much to me.

PS: BTW, it kinda looks like your avatar hahaha

Trail of the madman. Probably chewing gum stretched by someone's trailing on that road.

Episode 4 and 6 pictures are far from obvious; what are they?

Looks like wrinkled fabric to me. Maybe it's supposed to be a map or a blueprint or what have you.

I always thought they were cheical fumes because I thought the big bad of those missions was a Chem Scientist. MAkes sense for the Gas Mask picture for Chapter 6 too

It's a toxic barrel with slime oozing from it, isn't it?

Episode 6 is clearly a gimp mask, and the 'confrontation' in question is of Blow Job Blazkowicz confronting his inner fetishist.

Clearly.

I remember trying to figure this out (what episode 4, 5 & 6's images represent) not too long ago using Google images. I found that for different platforms (or so it appears) Wolf3d had different artwork in places, one of them being the episode screens.

Looking at this one is how I was able to tell what the episode 4 image really was.

As for 5 & 6 I still don't fucking know. 6 seriously looks like a ghost to me, so I always imagined 5 being some process of materialization and 6 being the ghost fully materialized :P

Don't episodes 4, 5 and 6 come first chronologically before 1, 2 and 3?

Yeah, and Spear of Destiny too. Trying to piece out the exact chronology of every episode (including the Formgen mission packs) is difficult, mostly because I reckon nobody at Id cared about that.

4 is a low-angle shot of a red barrel, adorned with a skull and crossbone, with yellow slime gooping down the lid.

5 is whatever the fuck that is. Noxious fumes seems most likely.

6 is a gas mask. C'm'on people. You see the big round filter snout thing, as well as the dark shaded goggles.

I always say episode 5 as a [badly] drawn orbital view of Earth, to sort of imply that, well, the trail of the madman isn't yet known.

Episode 6 always looks like a gas mask to me.

and, yeah, Mr. Chris, 4, 5, and 6 come first.

My childhood's false views of the pics:

1. a boat
2. blood drops / fireballs
3. some sort of wood pad / mud (didn't figure out the face)
4. a sail of a pirate ship. Most recently thought it was a curtain covering the dark secret.
5. a cloth
6. a robot face

Good times)

Actually 5, if you look closely, is fumes in the shape of a skull and crossbones.

Still think 6 is just a gas mask, though the gimp mask isn't a terrible theory.

I can't believe I thought that was a flag for 14 years. FOURTEEN. GOD. DAMN. YEARS. AND I'M SIXTEEN.
