ZDaemon Thursday Night Survival #250 - Plutonia Nightmare!

After the years you have spent with us we are reaching another milestone together. We believe after all this time dedicated to TNS you can't really blame us for going completely crazy and the result of our lack of sensible judgement is something spectacular - Plutonia on Nightmare! difficulty. You don't see a carnage like this every day so we hope you are ready to be a part of this and will come celebrate with us.

We might be getting a guest appearance by a speedrunning superstar very relevant to the WAD and difficulty we are playing but what's more important is to get through this challenge together!

Meh plutmidi. Not a big fan, sorry. I'm already too used to the songs that play in Plutonia. I would prefer if it was optional. (OR make an optional wad that brings the original songs back)

One hour into the session: MAP11MAP12, ~40 people, and a ton of hilarity xD MAP04 was the truly evil one though, someone will surely add how many tries that one took, as I only remember it was "A LOT" :)

Highlights were plentiful and should make for a very great video. Great session for the most part but nearly three hours just failing the same map is just silly imho

We officially ended the Nightmare part of the session after MAP18 and will be playing the rest some other week. I think it is safe to say that some of us will probably have enough Nightmares already just from experiencing MAP14.

We have switched to a total monster randomisation rotation to relax a bit now. Let's hope for not too many destructors.

How was MAP14 beaten? Was JCD really blasted to the exit? I just remember I had hardly left the starting room when the level ended suddenly.

Yes, JCD used an Arch-vile jump he's very familiar with since he has coop speedrun records in both UV Speed and NM Speed categories with this trick. It requires a specific positioning of the Arch-vile and is therefore pretty hard to achieve with other 20 players running around.

The coop demos are definitely a recommended watch from me since I had no idea you could jump such a long distance with the help of an Arch-vile before watching them myself.

I think most of us missed it. Like, I was on the server, but JCD finished it while I was still observing the starting area waiting for a good opportunity to spawn. :)

To be honest it was a little bit disappointing that after all these discussions on how to beat the map, it wasn't team effort that won but just a single guy. Oh well.

To add to Memfis' thoughts I think JCD might be the only one who knew what was going on. Everyone else was like "What the actual fuck just happened?" and didn't believe the exit was legit.

It's a shame we probably don't even have an eye witness.

I somewhat seriously kinda want it to happen. :P But many players would be probably too annoyed. I know zeaz didn't appreciate our masochism at all.

Maybe duck can create a special server or something for this map. :) Perhaps it doesn't really require many meatshields if everyone works together.

What a session. Thanks to everyone who visited and a special thanks to ZeroMaster who accepted our invitation and joined us for about an hour and a half.
We have broken the record for most deaths in a session by a big margin and quite obviously also for most deaths in one rotation and one map :) Cheers, JCD, for putting us out of our misery.

After successfully finishing it MAP01 in the 3rd rotation only observed one try on the old settings from previous rota and one try on the new settings and the session came to a halt.
