Cat God25 Posted April 18, 2009 Why did betruger make the deal with the demons? Share your ideas, REALLY stupid or not. i'd say, for a new haircut (hehehe) http://img90.imageshack.us/my.php?image=drbetruger1.jpg 0 Share this post Link to post
Lord_Z Posted April 18, 2009 He is power hungry, insane and has the resources to pull it off. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mindless Rambler Posted April 18, 2009 I think I recall that you find a PDA stating that he was a normal person, but when he came back from an expedition to Hell he was all fucked up from the experience. 0 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted April 18, 2009 Yeah I'm fairly certain that he was supposed to have been possessed, possibly by the Devil himself, as he is occasionally referred to as such explicitly, calls the demons his children, and controls all their actions against you. The PDA previously mentioned describes Betruger as being dismissive of the problems with the teleporter, and that he intended to demonstrate its safety by using it himself. Typical scientific egotism you find in other "shit hits the fan" stories like Jurassic Park. Anyway, once he came back, that's when he started to manifest the total obsession with his work, hoarding of artifacts, hacking into the systems, subverting other workers' authorities, dismissing his coworkers' suspicions, etc., all building up to his plan to open the portal for good. 0 Share this post Link to post
hardcore_gamer Posted April 21, 2009 I don't think he was taken over by the devil, if that were the case then why did he transform into that monster at the end of the game so that he could return back during the add-on pack ROE? Also i think i remembered hearing Betruger say: They have arrive.....as i promised during ROE's opening cinematic thus suggesting he was not fully controlled by the devil and in fact in control of his own actions. 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted April 21, 2009 Probably for the same reason Faust did. The prettiest female scientist at the UAC labs rejected him. 0 Share this post Link to post
Tetzlaff Posted April 29, 2009 Faust wasn´t rejected... he had sex with pretty Gretchen and then just left her, she got pregnant and killed herself. Then Faust felt sorry for her. 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted April 29, 2009 I gather you met Faust? I only know Mephistopheles and that's what he said. PS: There are various versions of Faust's story. In Goethe's, Gretchen is saved (by God) and Faust is taken by the devil. As for Faust being rejected:STREET FAUST MARGARET (passing by) FAUST Fair lady, let it not offend you, That arm and escort I would lend you! MARGARET I'm neither lady, neither fair, And home I can go without your care. [She releases herself, and exit. 0 Share this post Link to post
Tetzlaff Posted April 29, 2009 Mephistopheles is a liar ;) The part you quoted is when they first met on the street, but the story develops further. And in the end of Goethe´s Faust, Faust´s soul is about to be taken by devil, but then Mephisto is kind of homosexually arroused by some nude angels (no joke), and before he knows the angels took Faust´s soul with them, so in the end the devil is the loser in this game. 0 Share this post Link to post
tsareppsun Posted May 30, 2009 I'm not to sure about why he made the deal in the game. But In the novels, its said that since he had the possession of the SOULCUBE artifact he was having alot of biazarre nightmares. Maybe thorough the dreams he was somehow converted or tricked to do whatever it takes to open the portals. 0 Share this post Link to post
Jonno8825 Posted December 15, 2009 IMO, He WAS an egotistical scientist, and when he went through the taleporter he met a demon lord or maybe the devil himself, and got possessed. That theory is open to debate however. 0 Share this post Link to post
