Playing grown ups is bad when it makes you give a fuck about things people say on the internet... drama like this happen and the trolls have a laugh.

It also seems to make people take themselves VERY SERIOUSLY and say bad things about DW mods and alternative ports - could you do us a favor and die, please?

Uh... that's like, the opposite of maturity.

Graf, you shouldn't give up your project because of some childish forum posters.

You should continue it if you enjoy it and also enjoy contributing to the community.

If you were working on GZDoom without enjoying it but did it solely for the community, I can certainly understanding taking great offense in the ungratefulness of your own user-base.

Dude that Metalhead video is fucking tragic. What was the point of posting that anyway sonic? Did you think not enough people knew she was a lesbian? I'm fucking dumbfounded at why you posted some feminist tirade over Dewww calling SoulPriestess uninformed. She is uninformed! at least on that particular topic. Get up on your cross elsewhere.

As to Alex's point of Graf being a baby. Yeah I agree he shouldn't extort for his own drama, IF that is actually what he's doing. However, in the spirit of your abusive relationship analogy I'll add a different take. In all relationships there is a point where strife makes everything sour. That seems to also describe this situation from how I've read it.

Something interesting that I've found from attempting to contribute to an online doom community is that the people who do actually appreciate or take avail of the effort/money/time I've put in are generally too complacent to say thanks, or anything at all. It's the people who aren't happy that get the loudest and make the most fuss. You can find the same phenomenon in internet product reviews :) Who the hell ever goes online to rave about how nice their working refrigerator is. On the other hand if you've just bought an $800 appliance and it borks 2 days after the warranty then you might want to vent on every consumer review site you can find.

This stuff has happened to a lot of people in the Zdaemon community, and others I'm sure. I feel like Graf just saw this as his sour moment and decided to not give his time or effort anymore. Which sucks because GZDoom is pretty decent. As much as something is intrinsically worthwhile, if external parties shit on it enough it eventually loses it's worth.

Oh, and before I forget. There is NO USE in defending or assaulting Skulltag or the Skulltag community. It's a carnival of meaningless drama and bad netcode. Just let it be like a petri dish.

I believe the intent was to demonstrate the immaturity of some of the ST community and the creators of such videos, though actually posting it was probably unnecessary.

Skulltag has a policy of masterbanning people who they don't like (for example ALMN; it's been proven that evidence of him hacking is quite nebulous. Aerial was masterbanned for a period of time, for doing things on the FORUMS.. how does that even relate to the game?? I mean sure the Doomworld staff bans excessive mischief makers from the forums, but they are still free to play any source ports they may have), instead of just stopping at banning them from the forums and the staff-run servers, as would be expected. This means that if their "community" doesn't like you, you can't play the game online, not even on your own servers. I believe there is merit in protesting that, even if the protestors' methods weren't quite refined. Keep in mind that some staff members have started being more lenient in recent years, so old videos are somewhat out of context in severity of criticism (that video is almost a year old!).

GZDoom gives you the freedom to go play it no matter how much Graf hates you.

I mean, yeah, it's not like Doomworld isn't a website for their own source port or anything...

You have a valid point! You can also play Skulltag no matter how much the Skulltag team hates you. The similarity between these doesn't end there, though. You can play both of them without any trouble whatsoever offline. Hey, Skulltag even has bots, so there's a plus!

Oh? And your proof as follows here?

Wow. Just... wow. You believe ANY bullshit someone tells you, don't you? The "proof" that it wasn't ALMN was quite nebulous too. This is compounded by the fact that ALMN was warned repeatedly for his behavior and had never changed. All of these went against ALMN's favor in the first place - and it's quite clear that even if that clip had never been released, he was well on his way out anyway. He kept expecting that for every time he was put in purgatory, for every time that he got banned, he would eventually be released anyway, so it was no big deal. He thought he was so popular that he could escape the consequences. And that fueled his behavior to the point where he figured he could practically get away with murder. That didn't work so well for him. Just because he's supposedly the most popular dude on #skullrant or wherever, does not mean anyone has to show favor towards him - or that he is even entitled to it.

From what I understand, she did not do things exclusively on the forums to get masterbanned. She also pulled some crap in the servers themselves, too. She also sent nudes around, impersonated Metalhead, spamming "Metalhead is a dyke", and spammed the forums with pornographic pictures with Metal's face photoshopped onto them.

And for the record, she later got released even though Metalhead STILL does not like her.

And you're surprised she got banned? I'm surprised she got released.

In most cases they probably deserved it. It's honestly a shining moment when I see a constructive post on Doomworld - and I never expect it. This post you just made does not seem count as one of them - all I see is Skulltag FUD.

That wasn't hard, now was it?

And if you absolutely need a new master server, there's a GPL master floating around even on the Skulltag forum itself. I won't go into too much detail, but myself and Rive have tried without success at enabling others to run their own.

Shit-flinging on another forum isn't a good method of protesting. I've lost a lot of respect for you over your previous two posts alone, Spleen. Prior to this, I actually thought you were a half-way decent guy.

This is probably the most sensible thing you've said in that entire post, but in my mind, does not excuse what you said.

Spleen said:

That's because it's single player, and does not even require a master server to connect to in order to play. And even if you are banned, you can still play Skulltag offline or on private servers. There is nothing in the rules against that.

And notice one thing, Spleen - despite your post, you aren't banned. Or purged. Or even "warned". But I'm still pretty disappointed in you. And I am quite sure Metalhead is too. For a moment there, you had seemed to mature to a respectable point, transcending the behavior that got you into purgatory for your first go-around. I had gained a ton of respect for you when I saw the tournament demo between you and Awesomesauce, with you telling him no when he asked you to be dishonest about the score. I was quite amazed at your response. Now I see obviously that I am mistaken in that belief.

Since when is this a thread about me? I'm not an important person, so my status as an individual is irrelevant. How many people in this thread care what you think of me as a person? This really seems like something you should have brought up in private, if at all.

Yeah, I'm surprised a moderator hasn't changed its title to something along the lines of "Life, the Universe, and Everything", lol
