Which Source-Port is best?

Ultraviolent, I was fiddling a bit with that one the other day (the others too, actually.) 0.4 is apparently a purely technical try out, as the map it runs on (maps?) is very simple, though it shows some of the new features in relation to wolf3d.

I bet you run competitions with your friends to see who can get farthest without a crash... "hey I got to the 2nd bend!"

1. Doom legacy
WHY: It's nice... Has lots of features, Fragglescript, and more.
2. Zdoom
WHY: Same as legacy
3. Jdoom
WHY: It's the one I've seen with the best md2 support! Though it's got lack of special features.
4. Skulltag
WHY: It's a nice port for bot matches :)

I tried the JDoom port, it somehow "lagged" my whole system. I don't know what's wrong with it.... I mean....... I should be able to play Doom ][ on my computer:

Intel Pentium III @ 500MHz
512MB Ram
Voodoo2 12MB
Microsoft Windows 98 SE

Anyway..... where can I get those md2 models???
I think I might try ZDoomGL.

OpenGL often causes tremendous lags on some systems. In this instance, use D3D instead.

The latest version of Jdoom coupled with DX8.1 ironed out this problem on my system (don't ask what it is, you'll prolly laugh).

Heh, on my video card, OpenGL runs faster than D3D. So much better to the point that I run UT on it's buggy OpenGL renderer, rather than D3D.

best port?

I like to use Prboom for general doom play.

but I found myself to be using Eternity a lot now. for both editing and doom play usage. I hope Quasar would fix that music problem with Eternity. Then that port will pretty much be the best doom port ever.

I can't stand open gl ports, they make doom look really ugly and cheap.

they are only good for TC or levels that has nothing but dynamic color sectors.

Try going through the entire 0.2 level without crashing.

Joel, yeah. I dealt with it, responding to your (derisive) disagreement.

Thanks someone

for being bigger and dropping the whole thing

I play usually with doom legacy because my computer refuces to run zdoom on higher resolutions properly. The framerate suffers that way too much. I think zdoom is better than legacy though, if your computer can handle it. I especially enjoy zdoom's option to change automap button and the overlay automap option. And legacy is so damn buggy!

Yes, actually I had 0.2 in mind when I posted that, not 0.4 like I said.
